not to mention, based on the aftershow, kaito rejects short term goals as uselss to solving any problem. He says twice that the 'root' of the problem is what needs to be changed. again reflecting the impatience that's so instinctive when you lose yourself in your adolescence.
of course mafu is scared of him. he sees things in the abstract, the same way she wishes she was able to (in the service of suppressing her own desires for being 'unclear and messy' unlike the demands made of her.
when i find myself disliking Mafuyuu i kinda have to remind myself that that was quite literally me when i was living at home. traumatic invalidation destroys your sense of identity at the root when it happens young.
the root? of the problem you need to solve? its dead. the plant is dead. you need to grow a new plant and youre so mad about it. Why is the first plant dead? it wasn't your fault. it wasn't supposed to die. why should i have to grow a new plant when my first plant is already dead?
the first instinct is anger and self rejection, since thats all you're familar with. kaito for all of his disdain, makes her so uncomfortable because he IS the inverse. hes toxic radical change. shes toxic radical acceptance. theyre at odds with each-other.
not to mention, mafuyuu has so few men in her life that shes actually comfortable with. Len is a boy yes, but he still is very young, acting as a peer (similar to her social wards at school and such). Kaito is a(n arguably) fully grown man.
Its also possible that shes not used to having a masculine figure be so up front with her. Her father seems to blend into the background in scenes with her and her mother. Its probably off-putting to her for an adult man to be paying so much attention to her emotional state and so strongly.

Bc he’s a reflection of mafuyuu who spent the first ten chapters of the main story being honest to a fault and alienating people who wanted to connect to her.
When a character changes like that it’s pretty normal for the author to have them see their own behavior from an outside perspective to illustrate their lack of self knowledge.
Yeah she’s scared of him. It’s the voice in her that won’t let her forget how tired she is of holding her own opinion and self in. It’s the voice of discontent and change that she’s continuously rejects in herself. Me too girl.
