Andrew and Neil are two opposite ends of the same spectrum.

Andrew was subjected to every piece of institutional violence the system had to offer. Foster care abuse. Juvie. Misprescribed drugs. Abuse at a rehab institute meant to help him.

And Neil existed completely outside that system, but he wasn't free from abuse. The mafia, fake names and the worst parts and consequences of living off the radar.

It would not have been better in either situation. 'Normal' solutions were never kind to Andrew, and all of Neil's criminal off the books lifestyle was awful.

I imagine growing up both of them thought about if their lives were different, and they are proof to each other that it would not have been better.

It rules out the what ifs and helps them move forward in the aftermath.

AFTG is Well Written: a Masterlist

Many people have said the book series All For The Game by Nora Sakavic is badly written. However, I believe it is not. To prove this, I made a compilation of posts that explain why the books are meticusly crafted and amazingly written.

valid point op, but i always considered neil calling riko breaking kevin’s hand “unbelievably cruel” because of what it meant for kevin’s exy career and (presumably) lost potential, not because neil cared about kevin himself yet. i think nora wanted to emphasize that death and violence didn’t really phase neil anymore, but targeting someone’s ability to play exy did, thereby demonstrating his skewed worldview/priorities.

just finished watching the penguin. all i’m gonna say is that victor aguilar deserves to come back as red hood/a character obviously inspired by red hood, get his revenge against oz, and establish himself as gotham’s #1 crime lord. it’d be so satisfying narratively speaking and it ALSO makes perfect sense with vic’s pre-existing character arc. why else would vic, an original character with no direct comic counterpart, start out the show by trying to steal oz’s rims? that’s peak jason todd behavior idc

i fear neil has raised my expectations for a protagonist to an insanely high degree. like yeah this other guy is fine i guess :/ but where’s the pizzazz?? where’s the hobby that he’s literally willing to get killed over? why isn’t he a liar or a runner? where’s his fake identity? his daddy issues? his mama drama where he knows she’d hate everything about the life he’s chosen to live? his attitude problem?

where are his friends that became a true found family, not the shallow trope media keeps trying to force feed me? where’s that weird guy who lowkey represents everything he could’ve been if things turned out differently? and for THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS EXY where’s his scary bf who’s actually extremely cringe and out buying them matching gifts as we speak? :(

andrew hates jean because he was there at evermore with neil. he understands to some extent why jean did the things he did but he’s still fucking pissed

jean hates andrew because he saw neil at his lowest and knew it was because he cared for andrew. jean wants it to be him, jean and neil were supposed to be forever partners

Jason and Roy get "totally platonic married" in an effort to a) secure insurance benefits, b) avoid testifying against one another in court, and c) to be absolutely sure that Bruce can't try to claim power of attorney over Jason. Maybe something happened recently -- Jason was in the hospital, Bruce tried to throw his weight and money around to make medical decisions, Roy had to call Oliver to throw his weight and money around, something like that.

Anyway, the important part is that they get platonically married, even do a goofy not-kiss where Roy covers Jason's mouth with his hand and then kisses the hand while Jason rolls his eyes. Neither of them are taking it at all seriously.

Until later when they're at a cafe and Roy jokingly refers to Jason as "my husband" to the cashier. And they both come to the simultaneous, shattering realization that they really, really like that. They start saying, "You're my husband" and "You're my husband" in the most shocked, awestruck, dumbest voices possible while the baristas try to move them through the line.

hate to say it, but that may be why they have such a hold on us 😭 they’re simply unlike anything we’ve ever seen before

andreil is so unique because they don’t actually fit into any trope. enemies to lovers? they were never enemies. friends to lovers? they were not exactly friends either. sunshine x grumpy? they’re both grumpy as fuck actually. miscommunication? they understand each other on a level that no else can. love at first sight? well andrew smashed neil with a racquet at first sight so, idk. love triangle? you are not gonna believe this, they were supposed to be a throuple.
