Sadan the Tiger Shark Mermaid

Yes yes I know it is no longer MerMay but ya know what? It is still fun! 

A guard and protector of the Shark Kingdom, Sadan had no hesitations to come to the defense of her people's waters, be it from a rival mer race or a human. In fact she has quite the bit of joy messing things up for humans; ripping up their nets, putting holes in their boats and such. Not to say she hasn't learned from them, in fact based on some of the weapons they have dropped overboard, she has designed her own bladed weapon, featuring the teeth of some of her shark companions. She gets rather annoyed when certain young naive shark mers that tread too close to enemy waters, no matter what the reason be. It is just asking for a fight, which she is more than ready to supply to protect those who need it.  She can mostly be found if not in the Shark Kingdom, in ship wreck reef or the deep waters for hunting. But some things are changing; the ships of man are not so easily sunk, and they are faster... something is certainly getting her guard up.

Percy’s a tactile person. They’re into hugs, they like letting their friends know that they’re loved and they’ve spent long enough not hugging people that they think it’s deserved. Sadan laughs when they mention hugging her, at first. “I think I’ve forgotten what human contact feels like, you don’t need to bother.” They frown, but let it drop. ‘Maybe she just doesn’t like hugs,’ they think to themself. The next time they bring it up, she gives them an odd look. “You’re awfully persistent, Jin. I’m afraid that I’m not a terribly experienced hugger, however. Not much time for softness when you’re a soldier, much less the captain of the guard.” There’s not much that they can say to that, so they drop the matter again. It’s only after talking to the Countess that they realize that Sadan isn’t touch-adverse — she’s touch-starved.

They don’t get to hug her until a few weeks later, after a particularly brutal spar against some of the troops she’d brought with her in a move to help train Vesuvia’s militia. She’s battered, bruised, and wrapping her wounds when they tap her on the shoulder. (They have to shove down the thought that she’s particularly beautiful like this, even more so when she was fighting - a thing of deadly grace and fluid motion.) “Jin? Is there something you need?”

Silently, they lean against her back, wrapping their arms gently around her so as to not aggravate any of the injuries she’d sustained after the day. “Ya seemed kinda like ya needed a hug, after all of that.” She stiffens underneath their touch only for a moment… before leaning back into their touch, practically melting.

“...Yeah. Yeah, I think I did. Can you…” Her voice cracks, choking on a poorly hidden sob at the delight of being touched kindly, without the intent to harm. They intrinsically know what she means, and they shift so they’re hugging her from the front now - so she can hug back, which she does so almost immediately. It’s nice. She smells like sweat and dirt and ylang-ylang, but her arms are strong and corded with muscle. She’s a good hugger, they realize with a start, and they think they’d rather like to do it again.

So, India is dying.

Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.

If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.

A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.

There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.

There is no plan.

Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.

We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.

This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.

We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.

People are dying.

People are dying.

People are dying and there is no plan.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.

My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.

Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.

But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.

She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.

So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
