why is "they" on thin ice with you??? not tryna be rude just curious

Ehhhhh it's. Basically in person but also folks online use "They" as an excuse to misgender me for not seeing me as masculine enough. As soon as my face is seen or voice is heard, they is the only pronoun that gets used for me, since I have to be closeted due to my family so I can't really. Do anything to not look like a girl. So yeah I just dislike being referred to as "They" because while I get that it's usable for when gender is unknown it becomes just fucking depressing when I'm only called it because I can't perform gender like I want to.
