Chapter 19, Wen Kexing barges in Zhou Xu's room at night. A scene which I love dearly, just for the amazing show it makes of WKX's act but also, first and foremost, for how flustered and barely able to hide his attraction ZZS is -- unable not to think about WKX's disheveled appearance, about these nail marks on his wrist, about his beauty. Our man reaches the point of drinking from an empty cup!! ZZS!! Get a grip!! Way back, on my third reread, I made another sketch of that scene. It is said that, as ZZS is looking at WKX licking his own fingers, he's very probably blushing under his mask. I thought it was adorable and had to get that out.

On a related note, I just love the sheer power WKX actually has over ZZS throughout the book. I was deceived by ZZS' unreliable narration during my first read. Somehow, after rereading (granted, twice -- I'm not the most attentive reader when it comes to romance, I generally need to reread multiple times to get all the clues), it got more and more obvious, and now I wonder how I could have missed it, haha. ZZS!! You're so--!! So cute. WKX is right to call you adorable.

The two are the best of their generation, having won more awards then they have fingers, and have performed across the globe. Everyone thinks they should collab...but they can't stand one another.

This rivalry began when they were young, both fresh out of high school, emerging as these shining hidden stars. Both were performed for the same competition, and were told, it was a tie. Ties are unacceptable. There's only the sweet victory of first place.

This continues for years, both parties trying to one up the other. Showing that their skills are far superior to the other, and will always remain that way.

Eventually their paths cross again, in which both are in the biggest competition of the century.

They have a month to prepare for this, in which all participants stay at the same penthouse, and have the same selection of training rooms.

Over this time, the two actually get to know the other, learning that they're only bitter to each other.

Then maybe, they both throw the competition? They've come so far over such a short period of time, and honestly, don't want to know who's better anymore.
