Account Deletion
As a heads-up, I'm deleting this account. Before I do so, I figured I would note that my new account is @ruinousredlight.
This account is being deleted because:
My sexually abusive ex used it to fucking degrade me in front of a minor and I want nothing to do with those memories. The abuse was disgusting, and that ex shouldn't have even seen those posts. "Sex-repulsed" they told me, while intentionally scrolling through my tagged NSFW content to bring it up and mock me for it in front of a minor.
I want to post about things I actually enjoy, instead of hiding in a corner out of shame like I did when I was with said ex. A lot of that stuff wasn't included in my BYF because it was never on the account, and I don't want to simply update the BYF because older followers won't know to read it, and I don't trust Tumblr to put an update post where they can see it.
I'll get the BYF up on the new account before refollowing people, but I'll be deleting this account on November 12th. This is just notice so you folks know @ruinousredlight is me.

This thread is a few years old but it bears repeating. I’m tired of being treated as if I am invisible. Listen to Jewish voices when we talk about fascism. I am begging you.
#OpenDistrict#I'm choosing not to TW this one.#This one needs to be read regardless of comfort level.

Yeah, no, this could absolutely be a trafficking scheme or an MLM, I have no idea what this person gains by attempting to dissuade people from the possibility that it could be a trafficking scheme, because teenagers are bloody targets. Teenagers also want to make money to help fund their independence even in a healthy home situation, those in an unhealthy home situation? Those ones will bite at any chance you give them to fund their escape, and that's what makes me worry about this being a trafficking scheme.
Papers on a damned pole isn't the easiest thing to trace, nor is it blatantly a scheme. Actual, legitimate jobs will post bulletins quite often, it's an established behavior in hiring that is easy to replicate to avoid attracting attention from those who aren't actively looking, and even then, those who are looking get shot down by people with "it's just an MLM, not trafficking. They wouldn't be so obvious."
If this was a trafficking scheme, and it very well could be, I hate to say it's decently thought out because we just watched someone try to dissuade us from considering the possibility.
Regardless, don't accept job offers from companies you cannot verify. If you can't concretely confirm a company's identity, and their contact information, don't work for them. Don't call them. Do not go to their location.
Oh this hit all my red flags, I've torn down 3 already just walking Malaya to the park

the topic of purity/oversanitization is so interesting because like it went from the 2000s attitude of “don’t even THINK about having sex until you’re married and if you do you’re a slut” and “boys are keys and girls are locks hehe” to the 2010s where the perspective took a 180 and it was like sex positivity and defining consent and personal autonomy which is actually really good stuff but now we’re in the 2020s where the narrative has once again taken a 180 and chronically online people are pushing the idea that like “if you’re sexually attracted to another person that’s creepy”………what happened

You know if my girlfriend stuck me with a needle and did my T-shot for me while we made out I'd marry her on the spot.
Don't drink and mix needle, gender-affirmation, and medical kinks kids.

I really love the genre of mindless "hah, gotcha!" posts followed with an actual explanation of why the "gotcha" was completely wayward and nonsensical, because it really well illustrates that you've got to do your homework about this stuff.
this tweet goes from surreal to hilarious when you realize that she was the CEO of Reddit

"Why would you participate in the system? Voting is rigged, anyhow. It's pointless."
As long as the system is in power, you can't ignore it, and ignoring it only gives license to others to turn it against you without much resistance.
Vote.
Saying "voting doesn't matter" might reach your younger peers online but it certainly hasn't reached Clangus Hargbarg who was part of the kkk in 1951 and still sends in his ballot. He hasn't missed a one.

It's worth noting that depending on the state you live in, you may be able to get automatically registered to vote upon renewal or issuing of an ID card, Drivers License, or Driving Permit. This may also give you more of a paper trail to provide should whoever you're dealing with refuse to register you - it may also be completely out of their hands.
I know the state of Oregon has an automatic registration system with the default being "opt-in." If you go to the DMV and get a new ID or applicable form of identification, you get put in the voter registration system. Getting that new ID gives them identity confirmation and your proof of in-state address, which is all they need to go "put a ballot in their mailbox." From there, all voting in Oregon is mail-in, so you don't even need to hunt down a physical location to vote. It just gets sent to your mailbox.
If you happen to live in Oregon, this is also an option! If somehow the DMV fucks over your registration, it also leaves a massive paper trail. The charge on your card from them is enough to prove you were there. The physical ID in the mail is too, alongside your interim card. If for some reason you don't get a ballot, you can call the Board of Elections and flat out say: "I have physical evidence and bank statements to prove I was at the DMV on [date] - I think my voter registration has been compromised, as I opted-in to the voter registration when I went to the DMV."
Save your bank statement with the DMV charge. Save your interim card. All of it serves as a paper trail in Oregon.
I know this is state specific, but if anyone is an Oregonian or looking to move there, this is important info!
Buddy, when racist cunts illegally prevented me from registering to vote by just refusing to accept my papers, I PROMISE YOU shitty guilt trip memes about my inability to vote made everything worse.
You know what ACTUALLY helped?
More than every passive aggressive shit for brains on this website telling me I deserve to me racially harassed for not giving Democrats my soul?
A fucking email from a fucking HERBS AND SPICES STORE that unlike you wretched cunts ACTUALLY HAD VOTER REGISTRATION HELPLINES IN IT.
Every time one of you godforsaken freaks tells me to 'get out and vote' like its cutely trivial and didn't take months of desperate phone calls just to register (IF my registration even WORKED THIS TIME).
If you, like me, are struggling with registration or poll access, try contacting your STATE board of elections.
Request that they send you TWO copies of their registration guidelines. Collect any documents listed in them.
Then, contact your LOCAL board. Tell them you would like to register IN PERSON IF POSSIBLE.
Bring your documents and the two copies of the guideline AND a working cell phone.
If you get ANY trouble AT ALL tell the local person you will call the state board to confirm their registration requirements. Be polite, but do not leave. Put the phone on speaker.
Most of the time, the local person who is doing Actual Serious Federal And State Crimes will give up at that point. If not, the person at the state board will generally outrank and overrule the local one.
Make a note of the names of both the local and state official.
Then, and this is the most important part:
CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION WAS FILED.
It may take a day or two for your registration to appear.
Unfortunately, if it's been a week, you're going to have to repeat the process.
Take the names you noted previously, and contact the state board again. Report that these people denied you registration on this day, in spite of you providing these documents, then list all the required papers you collected.
The person at the state SHOULD be able to direct you from there, but the process varies hugely by state.
Good luck to you all.

This was actually horrifying to read, and what's more horrifying is I wouldn't be shocked if it was real.
This popped up on my Twitter, as well, and it's incredibly uncomfortable, but probably fairly important to read. Please mind the TWs and let me know if I missed anything.
Reddit post made by a 43 year old mother about her 14 year old daughter being brainwashed and groomed by an anti and the very real consequences it caused. A depressing but important read that gives insight into how antishipping (like many things) can be used to groom minors. The post begins with “I (43F) received a phone call” - everything above that is a final update edited in by the OP.

The TikTok-fication of Tumblr and why it needs to stop before your fave writers are gone for good:
1. “Part 2??”
Unlike TikTok, writing 5,000 words for a fic does not happen in 6 seconds or more. Weekly updates are from a writer who spoils you and is passionate about their story. Don’t kill the passion by demanding for more and not appreciate what’s already given.
2. The DC Conundrum
Many writers on this platform hail back from the ff.net days where dark content is a norm, not like TikTok where even death has to be censored or you could get flagged.
Despite that, writers are doing you a service by sharing fic warnings despite how it may take away from a plot twist or a big reveal. However, there’s a fine line between sharing warnings and downright spoiling our own work. Heed the warnings, don’t be a dick. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Learn how to filter your own content, too, while you're at it.
3. The Wild Algorithm
Unlike TikTok, Tumblr’s FYP is not in your face and you have a choice to not view it. Content often gets buried a few days after it’s posted without reblogs or comments to keep it alive.
4. Passive Content Consumption
Ties back with point #1. If you’re only sitting back and reading works without supporting the writers, they can’t spend 6 seconds to conjure up a fic. Writing takes time, editing, proofreading. Tumblr is a book club, not a delivery service.
5. De(constructive) Criticism
If an opinion isn’t asked for, don’t give it. Many writers choose this craft for their own enjoyment and to share a thought or story about a beloved character to those who love them, too. If an opinion is asked? Be kind when you share it across to them. No one likes their hard work to be shat on by someone who doesn’t understand the time and effort it took to create this piece.
6. Are You My Content Machine?
Again, back to point #1. Writers have busy lives. There are days when we want to scream into the void about our favourite characters. We want to share our thoughts about them or sometimes, we just want to talk about what happened during lunch break. Demanding and expecting that a writer post content without giving a shit about the soul behind the screen? Dehumanizing.
Don’t ruin the experience for those of us who are still here. Do your part to make fandom better for everyone.

A reminder about sealioning
Had an anon (of course it was an anon) come into my asks last night with big sealioning vibes.
If you don't know, "sealioning" is when someone comes up to you "just asking questions" when, in fact, you have not agreed to talk to them, don't want to talk to them, and don't owe them any sort of conversation. The goal of the sealion is to trick you into answering so they can keep jumping up your ass as they continue to disagree.
They don't want a conversation. They just want the opportunity to show you that they're smarter than you. If you disprove any of their points, they'll claim they weren't talking about THAT.
The term comes from this fantastic comic from Wondermark:
Beware the sealion. They're really fucking annoying.
