"LIIR," she almost is cooing. distressed by the reaction that he is seeming to have. dorothy never believed anyone was truly wicked. people could behave wickedly - but to their core? she wasn't so sure. there was so much depth to each person, and often they were victims of their circumstance. she could see that whatever troubled liir was weighing heavily on him though. she reached for him, hand extended as an offering. "it doesn't have to stay that way." corner of her lips downturn. "you aren't happy here?"

DOROTHY TILED HER HEAD. what happened after a dream? was there something waiting for them that wasn't reality? dorothy had never given it much thought. things had been so black and white in her mind. now that she could see things vividly the world had cracked open. "waited for what chrissy? did it ever come?"

SHE SEEMED TO KEEP PICKING UP FRIENDS. the journey through oz had been a long one, and while she was tired there was no stopping now. "i was walking through icy streams that took my breath away moving slowly through westward water over plains." dorothy had spent so much time looking down at the bricked road that it was a conscious effort to notice the other surroundings. " i walked off an old me." she said softly. dorothy hardly felt the same as she did this morning. the argument with miss glutch, or the terrible twister that seemed to bring her here. if she thought about it too long it about made her dizzy. how much adventure could be packed into just a few moments, while years of her life had gone by without anything to notice at all. dorothy looked over at liir before leaning down to pet toto. "i thought it was a dream. so it seemed."

THEY HAD TO GET OUT OF THERE. perhaps the orges had some right to be angry, but dorothy didn’t know the intricacies of all of that. and frankly there wasn't time to catch herself up to speed. she spotted the carriage that was about to be going across the road just ahead of them. she glanced at the prince before grabbing his arm. dorothy had traveled all of this way and had no intention of turning into stew just yet. she is almost sprinting,"i'm just looking for a joyride." dorothy tried to explain, just a few paces behind the carriage full of straw. she jumped in, looking back at charmont with an outstretched hand. "get in." she implored. "fell from heaven, no, it didn't hurt." her hand is waiting for him to take it. if she could fall from a house in kansas he could surely make this leap. it was a soft landing - even in heels.

HER BLOOD RAN COLD. dorothy thought that had always been a turn of phrase, but she could feel it draining. eyes are wide as she looked up toward the witch. "i'm sorry." she mustered, nearly teary at this point. it had been an accident. if there were a way to take the shoes off she would have been more than happy to. "i'm just trying to go home."

THIS WAS THE COLDEST PART OF OZ. the stone of the castle seemed to repel the heat. dorothy trembled against the wall, trying to calm herself, palms flat against the floor. anything to try and ground herself. out of her depth and pulled in several directions in such a quick span of time. "i didn't come to hurt you." she said after a moment. dorothy wasn't sure if the witch knew that was what the wizard asked of her. it did not seem like the population of oz took kindly to her, so she was sure it wasn't a surprise. dorothy wondered how it could be that a land could have both good and bad witches. and a part of her wondered who decided which was which. she looked down at the shoes, slightly sparkling in the firelight. "the witch - the good one -" she clarified. "said these shoes could only be worn by a witch with great power. is that true?"

what are you really doing here? @ruler-of-oz
WHY SHE DIDN'T KNOW. it was never her intention to end up in oz. at least this time she had some inkling that it might happen; like that feeling in a dream right before you wake up. dorothy had no way to prove it but there seemed to be an overlap in the worlds. something had pulled her there with the tornado, and now with the flood. it had always been divine intervention - and if it was controlled by someone it certainly wasn't the farm girl from kansas.
hands are clutched as her sides, exhaling before smoothing them out against the fabric of her skirt. "i don't know." she answered. although it was the truth it did feel unhelpful to dorothy. as if it was an answer that she should have within her. she looked down at her shoes before emptying out the sand, putting them back on before looking up. "it felt like my help was needed."

THEY WERE A RAGTAG GROUP. it was a strange world, as dorothy was learning. there was a peculiar nature and she already had more enemies than she intended. with the wicked witch on her heels it was imperative that they reach the wizard. all she longed for were the plains of kansas, auntie em's laugh and the warmth of her home. while runaway had seemed like a good idea mere hours ago, she felt ill suited for adventuring.
which was something that her companions did not seemed to suffer the same way. it had seemed like pibb was made for adventuring, as if he had made a home of taverns and streets. he was sharp in a way she couldn't find for herself. and ylfa - a girl younger than herself that seemed to take on the monstrous shape of a wolf. too timid by her own power to embrace the nature that was emerging. leaving lastly the wooden boy, hardened by bubblegum and whiskey, dorothy could not begin to imagine where his hardships began or ended.
"oh - mister wizard of oz, could you send me back home to kansas? it is my hearts desire." she practiced as they traversed the road. there's a half frown as she's dissatisfied by the phrasing - dorothy just didn't want to be ill-prepared. dorothy puffed out her cheeks. she looked around at her company, "how do you think you'll ask the wizard? what if there's a wrong way to ask. "

FOR A SCARECROW HE WAS SORT OF CHARMING. she felt more at ease than she did in muchkinland. although she had caused some kind of celebration for them. one that she hadn't intended. in this new land it was difficult to gauge who was friend or foe. he didn't seem alarming though, in fact it was her help that he was in need of. she gently set down her basket, looking at toto to make sure he remained put before. she found herself walking through the field. once she was close enough, with one hand she braces him and with the other she turns the nail downward. it only takes a quick moment for the man to tumble to the ground. "oh goodness, are you all right?" eyebrows raised as she offered her hand to help him stand.
"i hope you haven't been stuck up there for long." she brushed a few stray pieces of straw off him before tending to the pieces that had fallen on her. dorothy adjusted herself as she reached for the basket. she looked down both pathways before turning towards the right one. "i'm glad that you can get me there - all the witch said was to follow the yellow brick road. they were clear enough directions but not if the road forks."
he was a sight now, wasn't he? a spectacle, but not in the same way he used to be. handsome features, chiseled jawline, luscious locks, all replaced with burlap, straw, and sewn together with thread. the only thing that remained of prince fiyero was his eyes, sparkling and wonder filled, despite it all. there were worse things in life than losing your good looks, though at the start of this, fiyero would have wholeheartedly disagreed. he almost lost elphaba. he wasn't going to give anyone the chance, again, to take her away from him.
in the field, crows circled around the scarecrow, but his attention was on the girl that approaches with care. looking at him, amazed that a scarecrow can talk. even in oz, that wasn't a usual feat. 'if you help me down from here, i imagine that's something i could help with, yes,' fiyero gives the girl a friendly grin, stitched mouth pulling up at the corners. 'the right way is the right way. confusing, i know, but i can get you there,'
