The Timmerhuis building is an intriguing connection between past and future. The prominence of this Rotterdam icon is not in the highrise, it is in the openness and lightness of the construction. OMA, the architectural firm of Rem Koolhaas, is responsible for this rectangular design. A cloud of steel and glass, as Koolhaas likes to call it. The Guardian described it as ‘a pile of white glass cubes’.
