I wanted to make a Christmas card design to send to all my friends but unfortunately didn’t finish it until Christmas Eve. I am planning on saving this design for next year, but I thought I would share it with you all!
Merry Christmas everyone!

The Good Samaritan
The parable of the Good Samaritan is more than just a story about the importance of goodness. It is fundamentally is about the goodness of people outside one’s own ethnic, religious, and racial group. It is a parable that is still relevent today.
I have spent a lot of my time with Muslims over the years, and I have been profoundly impressed by their hospitality towards the stranger and dedication to helping the poor. I dedicate this piece to the Muslims I have worked with over the years and have grown to deeply love.

St. Corona of Syria
St. Corona was a 16-year-old girl who was killed by the Roman government in Syria in the 2nd century. She was reportedly executed by being tied to two palm trees which caused her body to be ripped apart. She is known for her shameless faithfulness, devotion to her spiritual brothers and sisters, and her defiance to oppressive power structures.
Gaining in sudden popularity due to COVID-19, St. Corona was originally not associated with epidemics. Rather, she was often considered the patron saint of treasure hunters (though interpretations are regional). However, many predict that due to her name, this martyr may become one of the patron saints of epidemics; people are already calling for her intercession in this dark time.
St. Corona, pray for us!

It is our duty as christian artists to not continue this cycle of whitewashing our God.
my mom tutors a hispanic girl and the child was expressing feelings of self-doubt, as she spoke about how almost every important person is white… including jesus. my mother told her that jesus actually had dark skin. the child was obviously confused, expressing how she always saw jesus depicted as a white man in picture books and in paintings in church. my mother explained how artists can make mistakes and not necessarily depict everything realistically. my mother then said “my dear, your skin tone would bear a far closer resemblance to Jesus than mine.” My mother expressed to me later on how angry she was that brown and black children don’t even realize that their own God looks like them. this is why white jesus is destructive reflection of white supremacy.

I am absolutely in love with your latest Magdalene piece. It's gorgeous. Is there a way I could buy a print of it from you? Idk if that's a thing you'd want to do, but I've been looking for a depiction of Magdalene as a woman of color for my altar and yours is perfect.
Why thank you! I have never officially sold art before, so I may have to figure out the process. Why don’t we talk over Private Message and we can talk about how to get this icon for your altar :)

Holy Saturday
Through the entire passion to his resurrection, Magdalene was recorded to be beside Jesus. The Bible is silent about the time between Good Friday and Easter, however Magdalene’s presence is fully felt in the state of sorrow and hope that Holy Saturday brings.

Mary Magdalene on Easter Morn, a stain glass concept
Do not weep and grieve, nor let your hearts remain in doubt, for his grace will be with all of you, sustaining and protecting you. Rather, let us give praise to his greatness which has prepared us to become fully human.

I love your art! I would like to draw like this, do you have any advices? How did you start?
I started out by drawing any time I felt like it. I sketched stories, people, places… anything that came to my head and anything that I saw that I thought looked pretty. I continued to do this throughout my life. Here is my advice:
Always carry something to draw on. A sketchbook or just a few sheets of paper will do. If you have an urge to draw and you have the time: take it out and sketch.
Listen to your art teacher(s). When in a class, it may feel like the instructor is trying to limit you, but that is usually not the case. They are giving you tools to use. After the class you can continue to use these tools or leave them behind.
Use references. There are sites that offer free or cheap references. Google is your friend.
Watch speed paints and instruction videos. Sometimes just seeing how other people create can really help you learn.
Don’t give up. Sometimes your art looks like shit. That’s alright. That’s the best you are doing that day. Keep going.
