STEEL - Tetsuo Acciaio

Tetsuo is a model citizen of the steel metropolis… Or at least he was, until he started questioning authority. Tetsuo has always been a bit naive, with a short attention span and lack of critical thinking… Qualities some would expect from a member of the steel nation. However, his empathetic nature and earnest desire to be kind to others led him to realize that the ruling class would rather keep the populace locked down, refusing to improve their lives in any meaningful way. Although he dearly wants to set things right, he is painfully aware of the fact that he just doesn't know how, and so he joined the resistance group to contribute anything he could.

Being surrounded by diverse people with different ways of thinking is incredibly exciting to him, even if he struggles to understand them. On the rare occasions he's made fun of, he's glad to learn what he can, even though he sometimes has the wrong takeaway.

He’s proud of his iron-hard body, honed from years of working out, and he'll take any excuse to show off his muscles. If he’s able to make himself useful in the process, all the better.

Despite his belief in body positivity, he is a little insecure about the fact that his sharp, hard metal body isn't great for hugging.

Soul Weapon: Hammer-Axe "Crush 40"

A heavy polearm weapon with an axehead on one side and a hammer on the other. Its power is derived from its sheer weight, and its surface reflects and radiates light.

ICE - Arjay “R.J.” Bergman

RJ has always been a deeply anxious person, focused on pure efficiency and calculating the “right” way to do things. Despite his legal name being Arjay, he feels it’s more efficient to just use two characters instead of five, and shortened it to RJ to simplify matters. Due to this anxiety and obsession with efficiency, he finds himself thinking ten or even twenty steps ahead, trying to account for every variable. This pattern of thought leads him to focusing his energy into being the most efficient and hypercompetent he can be at the few things he excels at… To the detriment of anything he doesn’t immediately grasp right away. From his perspective, this type of “minmaxing,” as he calls it, is just the bare minimum that anybody should do. Despite this, he still goes out of his way to help others when they need it… Though not without complaint and chastising the helpee for not being able to handle it on their own.

Given how he views everything as a variable, he considers all matters to effectively be a math problem that he can solve with enough time and thought. This includes people and situations. When Viktor goes off the book, for example, he immediately has a terrible anxiety spiral, due to a “sudden, new piece of the equation” being thrown at him. This causes him to often side with Bram, even though he also sees Bram as something of a wildcard. He also hates taking advice, as he feels he has already deduced the Correct Answer to any given situation… Causing him to seriously dislike Bram’s rambling and Tetsuo’s advice on exercise and lifestyle.

Most of his life is spent being the “guy in the chair.” He rarely moves from his server room, choosing instead to send drones to interact with people instead of his entire self. His diet mostly consists of instant noodles, energy drinks, and poptarts. He has never let a single other person in his room, ever, due to his mess… But he’ll gladly let you see his 26 terabyte collection of manga, anime, and other media that he has meticulously organized and cataloged for his own entertainment.

Soul Weapon: magic focus "Solitude OS"

WOOD - Rowan Gaoth

Deep in the wood faction's forests, there lives a sect of nature-worshipers who live by a strict code of non-interference. Rowan, seeing how their way of life was threatened by the Apotheosis Plutocracy, chose to break their peoples' code. In doing so, they excommunicated themself from their order for the sake of protecting them.

In keeping with their religion's teachings, they views all things as the will of the planet. People from their order believe it is a living thing trying to communicate with the chimera through its changes. With this in mind, they view any attempt to stabilize its chaotic and ever-changing nature as abominable and inexcusable.

As an insectoid chimera, they're used to primarily expressing themself through a type of pheromone-based telepathy… Thus, they have difficulty communicating with non-insects. As such, they have a hard time with facial expressions and conveying/reading tone. They have a tendency to express themself in a direct, straightforward manner, often neglecting to consider how their words or actions might affect others.

Since their self-exile, they've found themself increasingly lonely. Rowan was quite the social butterfly, so to speak, and cutting themself off from the more familiar ways of their sect has left them more hurt than perhaps even they expected. With that in mind, they find themself getting almost too attached to anybody who tries to understand them and work with them on a level they can reciprocate.

Soul Weapon: Hunting Horn "Verdant Tone"

A huge wooden bagpipe/trumpet hybrid wielded as a greatclub. Rowan is able to command plants and non-anthro insects with the power of music.

LIGHTNING - Viktor Voltage

Viktor is violent, prideful, and impulsive. He refuses to be held down or restrained in any sense, and once his mind is set on something, he uses brute force to achieve his goals… Occasionally at his own detriment.

He considers himself a megalomaniac. He talks a big game about joining the resistance only because he “can’t stand the idea of anyone other than [himself] taking over the world” as the Apotheosis Plutocracy has. Deep down, he really just can’t stand authority figures, no matter who they are. That the Plutocracy is abusive and corrupt just makes his hatred of them even stronger, especially given how lightning chimera tend to be treated by wider society.

Viktor’s distaste for authority often has him butting heads with the leaders of the resistance, especially Bram. They’re both stubborn and strong-headed, which often leads to Viktor changing plans on the fly only to spite the earthen archeologist. This can land certain tasks into murky water or unfavorable territory, endangering Viktor and others… Though he always cockily talks about how his changes always work out in the end.

Viktor has a peculiar style of what he calls “tough love,” goading others into anger (what he sees as their “greater potential”) through relentless taunting and a treatment of everyone around him as underlings and henchmen. Though it works on occasion, it almost always backfires, and pushes people away.

Soul Weapon: Chainsaw "Shocker Breaker"

as a mechanical-type weapon, Viktor is able to reconfigure it into an alternate form, when enough power is built up he can transform his sword into a large motorcycle with terrifying chainsaw blade wheels

WIND - Junji Orkan

Junji is the racing champion of the wind tribe. Whether flying, running, or airboarding, moving at high speed puts him in a mental "flow" state that he's obsessed with. Junji genuinely doesn't care about winning, nor the structure of the sport - he only wants to be able to go faster. The zen-like state he enters when racing causes him to lose sight of all distractions around him, emptying his mind of all outside thoughts.

To outsiders, his thoughtless state makes him seem cool and stoic, but he's actually kind of an airheaded birdbrain. He's terribly forgetful and has trouble paying attention to one thing for long. His mind tends to wander, but his handsome face makes it seem like he's just very introspective… Despite the fact that he hasn't got a single thought behind those dreamy eyes.

Junji’s single minded focus does have its downsides though. His absolute devotion to a singular goal or feeling he’s chasing can cause him to become unaware of those around him, often unintentionally hurting peoples’ feelings and not even realizing he’s done anything wrong. Not for lack of empathy but for a singular inability to consider anything other than what will get him the result he invisions for himself. It's this particular nature that has given him a reputation as a calculated genius devoted to being the best in all he does, when in reality he is simply kind of dumb.

Regardless of his incredible skills, he has been blacklisted from official racing competitions of any kind by the Apotheosis Plutocracy. Due to his support of the anti-government Abzu group, there's no point to the competition if no one has the freedom to surpass him.

Soul Weapon: Airboard "Extreme Gear"

A high tech hoverboard used for racing. When Junji does tricks and spins, it releases blasts of cutting pressurized wind.

Like other mechanical-type weapons, it can be reconfigured into various forms. Junji prefers to reconfigure it as a longbow and dual swords.

EARTH - Bram Uluru

Bram is an archeologist and anthropologist who specializes in uncovering pre-immortality civilizations. He once fought alongside King and his comrades in their raids against the Apotheosis Plutocracy, spurred on by this desire to protect their peoples' history from the government's censorship. After the event that devastated the original resistance group, Bram discovered a powerful artifact that could turn the tides. Together with Guillermo, the two picked up the pieces and formed Abzu.

His leadership style is bold. Although the government marks them as terrorists, he strives for Abzu to be seen as heroes for the people. To this end, he has Abzu take in those with nowhere else to go, and right injustices left long unaddressed. He strives to protect the peace where it can be protected and empower those that are disregarded by the elites. Though he still holds some anxieties from his past failures, he pushes through, striving to see the just world he and King once fought for.

While he can be harsh, stern, and at times intimidating, he shows a fatherly kindness to anyone he considers an ally to the cause. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone's needs are met. He has a bad habit of doling out long, rambling advice in the form of historical and mythological anecdotes completely unprompted. While this habit can be annoying to the other members of Abzu, his advice is always good.

Bram always believes that actions speak louder than words - which is especially poignant, given how loud his words can be. He won't ever accept the idea that "nothing can be done" when there's injustice to be resolved. Because of this, he tends to clash with pessimists like King and RJ. Despite how these arguments go, his frustrations only lead him to try harder to reach out to them. Bram insists on reassuring them, trying to push them to fight harder to achieve what they want. He simply cannot abide quitters after all.

Bram is always living his life to the fullest, and encourages others to do the same.

WATER - Guillermo Aceno-Kanaloa

Guillermo is the fun-loving, easygoing, and flirtatious owner of the water faction's most renowned chain of luxurious resorts and glamorous casinos. Their sunny disposition belies their nature as not only one of the most fearsome powerful mages in the world, but a ruthless mafioso leader who has dominated the world of crime. Leveraging their political immunity arising from their fame, they use both their connections in the criminal underworld and their presence as a legitimate celebrity to fund the actions of the Abzu Group under the table.

Despite what one might expect of a crime boss, those working for Guillermo speak of them like one would their favorite uncle. They show a genuine, welcoming kindness to those they consider "part of the family," and just about anyone is welcomed into the family! However, those who refuse their offers will learn the true terrors of the crushing depths, even on dry land.

Guillermo deeply admires King, who rose to prominence around the same time Guillermo did. They became obsessed with him when he suddenly disappeared. Upon meeting him in person, Guillermo fell madly in love, and declared the two of them married… Much to King's dismay. Despite King's constant rejections, Guillermo continues to shower him with affection.

Soul Weapon: magic staff "Forever Blue"

A staff resembling an elongated martini glass (complete with fruit garnish and tiny umbrella).

It produces an endless supply of refreshing, clear water that guillermo uses for their hydromancy.

FIRE - King Caliburn

King was once the head of the most prominent warband of the fire faction's territory. Fearsome and ruthless to enemies, he gained a terrifying reputation, despite the fact that he was always good to his troops. This warband eventually expanded, including people from all elemental factions, as a group of freedom fighters.

However, after a particularly tragic siege on the Apotheosis Plutocracy, most of his allies were captured and sealed away. What was left of the freedom fighters disbanded. The defeat left King particularly jaded and traumatized, and he swore to never lead another group into battle again.

After the group disbanded, King went into hiding and took up blacksmithing. With his command of fire, he is able to forge at extremely high and precise temperatures. He is also capable of using a long-forgotten technique to re-forge another chimera’s soul weapon, allowing him to modify their body, personality, and even memories. He holds the secret to this ability close to his chest, as it could be extremely dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands.

Due to his past failures and trauma, he has grown private and abrasive… A subconscious attempt to not let himself grow attached to people again. Deep down, however, he still holds a spark of rebellion, and won’t outright refuse a call for help from a new resistance effort. He may hesitate to join the battle himself, as he fears a repeat of his prior failure, but he will (with some convincing) assist with forging a new venture with Abzu.

Soul Weapon: Greatsword "Volcanic Guillotine"

A gargantuan sword made of superheated obsidian, he seems to use it more defensively than for chopping.

Its heat level grows as his internal temperature does, growing more powerful as his feelings boil to the surface.
