A Look at the Rugby Ball

A former United States Air Force commander, Robert P. Givens holds degrees from the Air Command and Staff College and the National War College. He serves as the owner and president of RPG Consulting in Kentucky, where he provides consulting services related to leadership and management development. Outside of work, Robert P. Givens enjoys playing football and also follows rugby. In rugby, players can kick, carry, and pass a ball down the field as they attempt to score by grounding the ball behind an opponent's’ goal. The game, which is governed at the professional level by World Rugby in Ireland, utilizes an oval-shaped ball that was originally called a quanco. The four-paneled rugby ball incorporates several features that complement the game of Rugby. For example, the ball’s oval shape facilitates passes to other players on the field, while its leather or synthetic material allows players to get a solid grip on it. Rugby balls are generally between 280 and 300 millimeters long, with a circumference of 580 to 620 millimeters, and weigh approximately one pound.

Arizona Cardinals' New Partnership with Dignity Health

The recipient of a master of public administration from Troy State University as well as multiple military-related master's degrees, Robert P. Givens is a former United States Air Force brigadier general who now serves as president of RPG Consulting. A passionate National Football League (NFL) fan, Robert P. Givens counts the Arizona Cardinals as one of his favorite teams. Following $15 million worth of repairs and upgrades, the Arizona Cardinals training center in Tempe, which has been used by the organization since 1989, is finally going to have a name attached to it. On October 10, the team announced a 10-year naming rights deal with Dignity Health and, as a result, the facility will now be known as the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center. While Cardinals president Michael Bidwill declined to announce how much the deal is worth, there are other aspects involved beyond the naming rights. For starters, the Cardinals and Dignity Health will provide funding for additional athletic training staff at multiple high schools throughout the state. Moreover, both organizations will continue to collaborate on the Brainbrook program, which educates Arizona high school athletes on concussions as they relate to all sports.

The Dream of Scipio - Roman Political History and Philosophy

The president of RPG Consulting LLC, Robert P. Givens enjoys studying all eras of history. One of Robert P. Givens’ favorite topics to study is ancient Rome, where many of the foundations for modern civil and political thought were laid. The sixth book of Roman political philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero's De Re Publica, a treatise on laws and governance in the Roman era, contains a digression known as the Dream of Scipio. This digression puts forth a dream of Scipio Aemilianus, in which he travels through the planetary spheres, meeting his adoptive grandfather and hero of the Punic Wars, Scipio Africanus. The digression concerns Pythagorean thought, the nature of the soul, and geography, but ultimately winds back around to the relationship between the individual and the state. In the final sections of the digression, Cicero's work asserts that the highest good one can serve is one's country, and that souls who live a life devoted to such concerns will achieve a more satisfying eternal life. Conversely, souls that spend their lives satisfying only their own pleasures will, according to Cicero, be drawn in by Earth's gravity, suffering many generations of misery before ultimately returning to something eternal.

European History - The Napoleonic Wars

As president of RPG Consulting, LLC, in Louisville, Kentucky, Robert P. Givens delivers professional advice on matters related to operations management, strategic planning, and executive leadership. Moreover, Robert P. Givens is a student of historical analysis with a special interest in the Napoleonic era. Napoleon Bonaparte, one of history’s greatest generals, ruled France and ultimately reshaped Europe during the Napoleonic Wars, which engulfed the continent from the early 19th century until Napoleon's defeat in 1815. The wars began after Napoleon seized power in France, ending the country’s revolutionary period of government. From 1803 on, Napoleon and his army secured victory after victory on the battlefield against coalitions of enemies encompassing major powers, such as Prussia, Russia, Great Britain, and Austria. The Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, widely considered his greatest victory, made Napoleon Europe’s master. However, Napoleon’s decision to invade Russia in 1812 turned into a disaster because his army was ill-prepared for the harsh winter, which forced them into a long and, ultimately, ruinous retreat. The state of affairs would result in Napoleon’s exile to the island of Elba. The irrepressible general eventually escaped Elba and quickly reconstituted his power in France, leading to a final showdown in 1815 at Waterloo. Napoleon was defeated and exiled to the remote Atlantic island of St. Helena, where he died in 1821.
