Cece had decided to head out to the bars a little earlier than normal, hoping to get a nice buzz before her sister got there. It was a lot easier, for sure, and she was able to get drinks and shots faster, and for free. By one gentleman in particular. The first time was flattering, the second was nice, but after the third or fourth one, it felt more like him trying to get her drunk than trying to be nice, which didn’t sit well with Cecily. She’d lived in the big city long enough to know when to leave a situation. Unfortunately, this man was persistent. She walked up to strangers, went to the bathroom, and she cursed herself for wearing heeled booties to make her easier to spot within the crowd. At one point, she was convinced she’d gotten away, and just when he was about to make eye contact with her, someone stepped in and he darted outside. She took a deep breath and instead, made contact with the person who had helped her. Someone she didn’t recognize, but that wasn’t totally unusual. She hardly knew anyone in town.
“Thank you so much. I meant to get buzzed for my sister, not drunk. Leaning against the table, she closed her eyes for a moment before looking at the second man. “Seriously, thank you. He was a little too eager to get me drunk. I’m Cece.”
—Open Starter @tupeloextras Location: Bar, Concert Venue, Coffee Shop / Anywhere your muse is being pursued by an unwanted suitor, and Lachlan finally steps in to help them out.
Lachlan had been watching the game of cat and mouse for the last… who even knows how long. They’d try to extricate themselves from the conversation, move to another area of the crowded room, and within a matter of minutes, their shadow would be sidling right up beside them, ready to take another shot. Poor clueless idiot couldn’t get the hint they were being rejected… Their beleaguered victim managed to slip from their grasp yet again, temporarily swallowed up in the crowd, and when their shadows came by moments later, eyes desperately searching, Lachlan decided to help them out. “Hey, I think I saw them heading outside,” he said, hoping to throw the person off their scent.
He watched the shadow make their way out the door before catching sight of their now-free prey. Lachlan winked before calling out, “I think your coast is clear now.”

cece had decided that, since it was her day off, the weather was nice, and nana needed to get out of the house, that she would take the woman for a walk. they would try to do walks every time she was home from work, and cece would try to get one of her friends at the hospital to stop by and get her moving. otherwise, nana edna would stay inside, looking at her collection of tupelo firefighters calendars or look up “hot single bachelors in your area” for her granddaughters. she didn’t want them to be alone, which was sweet, but they also had each other, jobs with long hours and kept them busy, and a crazy grandmother to keep track of.
“cece, he’s attractive and a very nice young man. amelio would be good for you. you should ask him on a date!” rolling her eyes, she kept her pace slow and at pace with the older woman, the walker creaking over every crack she went over. “we had one conversation nana. yes, he’s attractive and nice, but i’m not going to ask him out. we just moved here, you gotta give us some time to adjust before you go pawning us off to every attractive man you see.” she would admit, though, her nana had good taste. “oh, speaking of men...” her voice was sing-songy as a man stopped them, asking for her phone. “nana, you go home and start lunch? i’ll help him get into his house.” cece nudged her grandmother away, “get his number when you’re done. he’s cute.” feeling a blush on her hceeks, cece turned back to the man. “i am so sorry about her, pay no mind. you needed my phone, right? i can help you pick the lock if you need it?” a nasty habit she’d picked up in her younger years, but overall pretty useful. she held her phone out, allowing him to choose which option he would prefer.
“shit, shit, shit.” tanner grumbled, a groan leaving his lips as he threw his head back and closed his eyes. he was trying his best to calm down but he’d locked himself out of his house and of course he left his phone inside. he’d already had a long day at work and he wasn’t sure this could day could get any worse and obviously, he’d been wrong. he plopped down on the steps that led to his front door and contemplated what to do next. he wasn’t sure whether he should see if a neighbor would help him out or if he should just walk into town and get a hold of the nearest lock smith. before he could tell which was the better option, he saw someone walking by. “hey! hi, i mean,” he pushed himself up toward them, “i locked myself out of my house. do you have a phone i could borrow or something?”

Since he worked as a firefighter, he had to deal with people bleeding sometimes, it was why he couldn’t let it affect it, but it did in a way. He didn’t freak out enough to not be able to help the victim, but he was bothered by the sight of blood or just the thought of it alone, so when she demonstrate with the ketchup what happened, he felt a shiver, “Jeez… That seems awful, I’m glad she’s okay though, but I’m also glad I wasn’t there,” there was a car accident once, and there were a really hurt man stuck on the car, and they had to help him, let’s just say that he was still not sure how he didn’t throw up, because his lunch wanted to come out so desperately when he saw the scene, “That sucks!” he would have been sad too if he had to work, so he got it, “Oh, no! She said that she would have flirted with me, she was talking about herself,” he explained, “All she told me about you, was that you were a kind person.”
Cece chuckled at his reaction to the ketchup demonstration, which was actually a lot more common than her calm demeanor when her patient told her about it. “It was a little bit of bleeding, but luckily everything was fine and it was sort like a fluke. A messy fluke, but fluke nonetheless.” When he corrected her, stating that it was her grandmother that would flirt and not herself, Cece could feel herself blushing and took a sip of her coffee. “Well, I suppose i had to get it from someone, and it certainly wasn’t my mother.” Listening to him tell her what her grandmother had actually said about her, a soft smile replaced the blush, trying to hide the sadness that washed over her body. “thats... far too kind of her. i wouldn’t say I’m kind. More... confused. and lost, sometimes naive. which i suppose can be confused for kindness.” Shaking her head slightly, she looked back to the man, “anyway, enough about me. tell me about you. what’s it like being a firefighter?”

“oh i know she loves you more. she’s always too angry at me for messing up the feng shui of this broken down house.” chloe laughed a bit, but she always knew that cece and nana got along so well, while her’s and chloe’s was always a little more tug and pull. she made a long sigh, before returning cece a smile. “yeah, and vise versa.” she laughed, as cece went on about the hot firefighter that nana went on and on about before. “oh shit no way! edna talks about him so much, it’s like meeting a celebrity.” she laughed, taking another sip of her coffee, before cece started talking a girl she met. very…tentatively. and the words she used to describe her, it wasn’t like desrcribing a friend. “a spark?” she questioned with an arched eyebrows, just as her eyes turned wide. “wait!” chloe said excitedly, placing her coffee cup down very harshly. “i know you aren’t talking about like friendship girlfriend. ceci when the hell were you planning to tell me????” she exclaimed, before standing up and saying “me too bitch!” she laughed, before giving her sitting sister a hug. “well granted i haven’t been in a real relationship since troy but hell yeah cec that’s awesome!” she laughed before sitting back down. “that’s gonna be one hell of a conversation with nana though…”
cece laughed and rolled her eyes. “you just have to remember what she likes, and change it to another way she likes it. everything just basically switches places.” when chloe mentioned that amelio was like a celebrity, cece just about died. “that’s how I felt! her description of him is spot on. and, you will not believe this. nana told him i’m a flirt! the audacity of that woman, exposing me like that.” shaking her head, she finished her coffee and set it on the table. “the spark is her personality. she’s got a spark in her, a light, something.” that was the friendship part of it. that girl was not as shy as she was playing off. when her sister put two and two together, she was nervous for a moment, then laughed at her excitement, gripping her arms as they wrapped around her. “you too as in, you too?” she raised an eyebrow, genuinely not seeing that one coming. “the relationships are the exact same. same drama, same story, blah blah blah.” it felt good. it felt good to finally have someone, and of all people, her sister, to talk to about this. now, nana. “you know, maybe we don’t have to tell her? or we can mention it on her deathbed?” too soon? too harsh? maybe. “now, about going out tonight...”

Not getting along with one’s parents was never something that he could relate, as both of his, were absolute sweethearts. Maybe it was one of the reasons why he grew up to be one too, “You can talk about it, if you want to,” he always had been someone that didn’t mind listening to someone vent. Sometimes complete strangers rambled on and on about a problem that they were having to deal with, he supposed that he just had one of those trustworthy and friendly faces, “I did go, yes! It was pretty fun, hopefully next year, will have a party that will be as much fun and you will be able to go,” he just wasn’t sure if he would be able to, as it wasn’t always that he had the luck to his off day ending up being on a holiday, “The only thing she said, was that if she was younger, she would be hitting on me, but I heard far dirtier things,” compared to a few things he heard before, that was beyond family friendly.
cece smiled at his comment. “thank you, but doctor-patient confidentially. and has to do with blood.... but just imagine..” she looked around before grabbing the ketchup and pushing the fries to make an empty spot on the plate, then squeezed the bottle of ketchup, slowly at first, then a bit harder so the ketchup splattered. “understandable she was worried, but i can assure her, and you, it was just bleeding.” cece put the ketchup back down and looked at the mess, before dipping a fry into said mess. listening to him talk about the party, cece groaned slightly. “i wish i could’ve gone! i didn’t even get to dress up for work!” before she would always be sure to request halloween and christmas off, just to be sure to spend it with her sister, but since she was so new at this job, she figured that wouldn’t be the best first impression. “wow, my nana told you i’m the flirt?” she wasn’t wrong, but wow. “trust me, i haven’t even gotten started” giving him a wink, she motioned for refill and turned to him. “now, tell me more of what my nana has said about me. i’m curious now.”

“i swear, nana needs to get a new hobbie.” chloe laughed as she connected her tablets to the new wifi. “which reminds me, the password is firemenoftupelo all lowercase no space.” she smiled, taking a sip of her coffee, trying to forget about what happened at the halloween party, but she knew she would have to bring it up to cecily eventually. “chill ceci, it’s not like i even knew he was still here.” she sighed. “yeah i wish you were there, would’ve saved you from him bitching at me that i didn’t call him. you know as if i had his number after all his time.” she rolled her eyes, still being salty from the encounter. “i told him that you got a job here and nana needed help, so i don’t think i’m his favorite person.” she said, before looking up at her sister. “i’m surprised you remember him, it was almost nine years ago since i saw him. maybe i should’ve tried to like, i don’t know look for him or something. but heck i’m not a stalker.”
Ceci couldn’t help but roll her eyes when she heard the password. “you can take blame for encouraging the hobby!” she typed the password into her phone and, sure enough, it worked. she chucked and had another sip of her coffee, attempting to not spit it out as she listened to chloe explain her experience the night before. “you. did not tell me he bitched you out. you did not just say that.” ceci took a deep breath and set her coffee down to keep herself from breaking the cup. she also put her phone down to make sure she didn’t work her magic and get. his number faster than chloe finishing her story. she was incredibly protective of her olde4r sister, just as she had been while they were growing up. chloe was the reason ceci was alive, even if she didn’t realize it. “of course i remember him clo. you were upset when you told me, and i hated to see you like that. i’m going to remember the guy that made you feel like that.” the moment chloe started to defend him and fault herself, she stood. She stood to her feet and walked over, lifting her sister’s face to hers. “you stop that right now. you don’t owe him anything. he could have reached out too. it’s not on you.” Staring her in the eyes for a moment longer, ceci sat down next to her and curled her legs to her chest and rested her head on her shoulder. “our parents had just died. both of them, at the same time. he cannot blame you for not reaching out. that’s not fair of him, and if he makes you feel bad for that, then fuck him. you don’t need him” they had each other, and it got them through everything so far.

Fries were definitely very unhealthy, but he ate a lot of unhealthy things, so wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that knew him, that he wouldn’t advice someone not to eat them, actually, quite the opposite, “Eating it sometimes, is not going to harm anyone,” he also ate healthy things, of course, there were always vegetables and fruits at his apartment, but he also saw no problem in eating junk food sometimes. Life would be dull if you just ate healthy things all the time, “You missed Halloween? That’s terrible, it’s also my favorite holiday, and I know how much it sucks to miss it, were you working?” he figured that was the case, since most of the time, that was the reason why anyone would miss a holiday, “In my opinion, McDonald’s is the best, but I respect yours,” he was not really one to argue with someone when their taste were different, everyone thought differently about something, and it was okay, “Oh, you’re her granddaughter? She talked about you every time I went to help her,” he smiled, “She’s a sweetheart, and I guess that answer your question, but yes, that’s me.”
She chuckled at his words and nodded. It was true... unless you were allergic to it. then it was almost always bad. obviously that wasn’t what he meant, but being an almost doctor, she always thought of the ‘what if’ scenerios. she was, to be frank, over the what ifs. she hates what if scenerios. “Yeah, I did. i had a mom that was... well, this isn’t the place to discuss why. but i did get stuck at work. were you able to go? was it fun?” she needed to find someone to live through vicariously for everything that she missed. “please please tell me you went. i want to know if i really did miss out!” maybe she didn’t want to know, but curiosity killed the cat. Hearing him immediately know who she was, she laughed and nodded her head. “I am one of her granddaughters. my older sister is also here, chloe. But she is a sweetheart, even if a little inappropriate. always in good nature. and i hope she doesn’t cause too many problems.” Edna was a sweet old lady and never meant any harm, even if she does cause some worry. it was only a matter of time, so cece was willing to deal with it.

melina hadn’t ever dated a girl. she’d messed around with one in high school before dropping out but it’d been since she was a teenager. she almost felt stupid for allowing herself to stay with the same person for the last ten years, especially since he wasn’t even worth her time but she figured this wasn’t the time or the place to get into any of that. she figured focusing on the girl beside her was way better than thinking about her ex and ruining her mood. “i think you’re right. princesses usually know what they wanted and how to get what they want too.” she agreed, laughing along with the new girl.
she watched as the girl wrote down her name and her number and she tucked the information inside of her hand bag moments later so that she didn’t lose the information. melina definitely hoped to be in contact with the girl again. “sounds good to me.” she smiled softly. she wasn’t sure when she’d have the off time but she’d make some if it meant making some people smile and keeping the girl around for a little while. “oh,” she nodded her head. “i’d like that.”
cecily smiled at the girl before looking at her watch instinctively. “oh my god, i didn’t realize how late it was...” putting a $10 on the counter to cover her food, she grabbed her bag and turned to melina. “i’m so sorry to leave like this, but i’ve gotta get home. we’re having internet issues and nana... you know, never mind.” she chuckled lightly as she stood. “i’ve just gotta make sure my nana doesn’t call the fire department to get them out there to “help” her.” she emphasized the air quotes, rolling her eyes. “that crazy old lady may be dying, but she’s still spunky.” putting her hand out, cece shook melina’s hand, not sure if she had held it too long and made it awkward or not. “it was nice to meet you, princess melina. thank you for keeping me company.” she took a breath, then turned on her heel and walked out of the diner, taking a quick peek over her shoulder at the brunette one last time before letting her hair fall over her face, hiding her blush in the midnight lighting.

cecily poured herself a cup of coffee when chloe all but screamed about the internet. “it’s nana, she’s got people to watch and firefighters to call. she doesn’t need wifi.” cece rubbed her eyes and sipped her coffee, regretting only getting the two or three hours of sleep she got, but definitely not regretting the company. she was barely listening to her sister, rather thinking of a tall brunette with gorgeous eyes when she heard the trigger word. “wait, what? he’s still here? wow, it’s been a long time since i’ve heard that name... you should’ve texted me! what the hell, clo. you know i would’ve left work for that, or made up a story about how you needed to save me from work.” setting her coffee down, she pulled out her phone to connect it to the new wifi. “ugh, i wish i could’ve gone. sometimes, i hate this job.” sometimes being the keyword.

“that, or maybe i got the wrong fairy god mother. maybe she wasn’t a fairy god mother after all.” melina suggested, letting out a small laugh. “but you could also be right. she could’ve definitely given me the wrong directions and maybe i’m wasn’t meant to find prince charming but princess charming.” she added, lifting her shoulders up in a shrug. it was nice to find someone to talk to that wasn’t forced to talk to her inside of the salon. she didn’t really have a lot of people in tupelo but at least she was making some sort of effort.
“that, well, that actually sounds like a lot of fun.” she admitted, with a light laugh. melina wasn’t sure how good she was with kids but she didn’t think it would hurt to try. “so, i’ll see you again if i stop by? it’d be nice to see a familiar face.” she added, offering the girl a smile. “the party wasn’t so bad. extremely crowded though and being new in town kinda made me feel out of place so i left and that’s why i’m here.”
Cecily shrugged, taking a sip of her coffee to hide the blush and the smile on her lips. She’s only had one girlfriend before this, and no one in her family knew. It had been short-lived, lusty and very exciting. The butterflies she had during that relationship, she was feeling at this very moment, the day after Halloween, the smell of grease, sugar and coffee surrounding them. “Princesses are way better, anyway. More sincere, more in tune with their emotions... they’d probably start less wars...” She chuckled at her own statement, not able to hold it in anymore.
Taking a pen out of her purse and grabbing a napkin, she quickly wrote her name and number on it before sliding it over. “If you stop by, you can see me. You can just text me when you wanna come over and I’ll set up everything else..” Cece finished her coffee and set it down close to her, knowing she didn’t need any more at this point. Adrenaline, butterflies and caffeine wouldn’t do her much good. “I’m no expert on Tupelo. I visited my nana during the summers growing up, but just moved here permanently. Hell, we can explore it together too if you wanna. You don’t have to just see me at the hospital.”

The fries in Red’s were so amazing, not as good as McDonald’s, but he doubted that any could be, though it was a really close second, and that was one of the reasons why he most of the time, ordered them along with whatever else he was going to eat, but usually, he ate them at lunch, not always when he would eat breakfast, “I approve your choice of order,” he gave her a small smile, she seemed tired and stressed, but he could just be seeing things, he hoped he was, “The fries in here are so amazing.”
Cecily took a sip of her hot coffee, almost regretting it as it burnt her tongue and the roof of her mouth. Key word being almost. Smiling as the smell of fries hit her nose, she took a bite out of the first fry when someone sat next to her. She eyed him for a moment, staring at the meal she had ordered herself and chuckling. “It’s definitely an order... probably not one I would advice most should eat, but I missed my favorite holiday, so I’m splurging.” She pushed her plate of fries over slightly, a silent offer to the man. “I would argue they’re the best fries in town. Honestly the best fries I’ve had, but I know many would fight me that there are better.” She took another sip of her coffee before adding the smallest amount of half in half, just to cut the bitterness. “You’re... Amelio, right? Sorry, my nana is Edna, and if you’re not Amelio, then I think she’s getting her firefighters confused.” Edna loved Amelio.. like love love. And as she said, if her description is anything to go by, this is the firefighter she would request any time she fell. And for good reason, at least to Cecily.

mclinaedwards:
melina had yet to order anything. she studied the menu for a moment, trying to find something that would stand out to her that she really would enjoy after a long night at the party. although, it really wasn’t that long. she’d gotten dressed up to go out for a total of maybe two hours or so. parties just weren’t her things anymore. she wasn’t really one for being in crowds or people with little to no familiar faces. it just wasn’t comfortable for her but she’d made an effort and she figured she got an A for that at least. once she finally chose what it was she wanted to ordered, she close the menu and waited for the waitress to come back her way.
“what is it that you do?” melina asked the girl next to her, her head tilted in curiosity. she was proud of herself for actually making an effort into talking to someone but she needed more friends around this place if she was ever going to call this place home. she laughed softly and glanced down at her dress, “unfortunately, prince charming never showed and i got bored so i’m here to grab something to eat before the clock strikes midnight and i turn into a pumpkin.” she teased. “it’s nice to meet you. i’m melina.”
Cecily smiled at the girl as she finished her coffee and pushed it out a bit to get a refill, she listened to the girl talk about prince charming and midnight and she could help but chuckle. “Fairy Godmother was never an easy one to work with. Maybe she sent you to the wrong place, in search of the wrong Charming.” Nodding her head in thanks to the waitress, she let Melina order as she sipped her coffee and finished off the last of her fries.
“You know, the hospital is always looking for people to walk around and brighten the kids’ faces. I’m sure the moms in my care would be thankful for that as well. Save that dress and stop by sometime.” She was being completely genuine, too. A little distraction from the real world always helped the moms feel better who were stuck at the hospital, even if just a day or 2. “How was the party anyway? I wanted to stop by.”

mclinaedwards:
melina had left the party early. it wasn’t that she wasn’t having fun because honestly, things had been exciting and she’d enjoyed seeing everyones costumes but she felt out of place. she’d just moved here two months ago and she was still trying to get use to everything in tupelo and she was still trying to make some friends but she wasn’t the social type, not really. not unless she was at work and she was only social at work so that she could get some tips. having conversations with her clients was easy because she’d been doing it for so long and she was used to it but she was comfortable at the salon. outside of the salon, she was a different person and she had a hard time making friends.
she should’ve just gone home but the loud growling in her stomach stopped her from doing just that. she looked over at the girl who was seated next to her and offered her a smile, “you didn’t dress up? halloween not your thing?” she asked, attempting to make conversation the best she could.
Cecily’s fries were out in record time, probably because the diner was slower than usual night, especially due to the time. She took a long sip of her hot coffee, the aroma bringing the adrenaline that she always had after work down significantly. The warmth went from her fingers into her hands, trailing up her arms and into her soul. A good cup of Joe was always necessary for any occasion, and coffee was easily her favorite drink. By now, she was sure it was running through her veins, and all she needed was an IV drip of caffeine to wake her up. Someone sat next to her, and she didn’t pay too much mind to it, not bothered by the company of someone. When the woman spoke, she looked up and smiled. “Actually, quite the opposite. I got stuck at work, though, and panicky moms come before the festivities.” She took a bite of her fries before nodding to her costume. “What about you, princess? Dressed up with no ball to attend?” She offered her hand after quickly wiping off the grease. “I’m Cece.”

Cecily was weaving her way through the remnants of the Halloween festivities the night before. She wasn’t meant to work overnight as she did, but when the job called for it, the job called for it. And panicky moms usually called for the full work up before she could calm them down. “Nana, I'm home!” She walked through the decorated foyer, empty cauldrons and candy wrappers sitting next to the front door. “Cece, are you just now getting home? How was the party?” Squeezing her sore feet out of her shoes, she plopped down on the couch. “I just got off. I wasn’t able to make it” Within ten minutes of Cecily’e unsuccessful pity party, her nana had convinced her to at least head out of the house and ‘have some fun before the real world kicks in’, although, if working 60 hours a week isn’t the real world, then Cecily wasn’t looking forward to what was n store for her. Nevertheless, the headed down to Red’s, sat at the counter and ordered a coffee and some fries. It was. nothing fancy, but they were easily the best fries in town. where: Red’s who: open

hello all, this is my darling cecily; let me know what plots you need and want! @tupeloextras TW: cancer, death
the facts: - Cecily Adler - Twenty-Six | Cisfemale | she/her | bisexual - OBGYN Resident - New York City, NY
the story: - Cecily is the youngest of a stock broker and lawyer in the heart of New York City. Chloe is her older, and only, sibling, and as far as she knows, it’s just the four of them. Her parents raised her and her sister to live a no bullshit, bitches get stuff done kind of mentality, and Cecily will admit it got her through this life she’s been handed. - Growing up in New York City, Cecily learned quickly there were 2 groups you were in, the popular, and the outsiders. Cecily knew she didn’t want to be an outsider, so right away, she made sure she was known. It was easy enough since her father was a big shot lawyer that all the rich knew. Starting at a young age, Cecily made sure she was either at the top, or with the top. - In high school, it was always common to go into nursing, and she is no different. Cecily got her CNA at the age of 14, and while she acted tough, it actually brought her a lot of joy, being able to comfort those in pain and give them a glimmer of happiness in their dark times, which, in turn, gave her a joy that she felt very seldomly. -[tw death] Shortly after Cecily’s new found joy, all joy was taken from her. Her parents were on their way to a gala, one she was going to meet them at. It was in the middle of the silent auction when she was pulled to the side and told the tragic news. It was also in that moment that Cecily lost all of that ‘bitches get stuff done’ mentality. She shut people out, including her sister. While now she’s grateful for what her sister did for her, at the time she definitely took it for granted. - Meeting their grandmother at the funeral was a blessing in disguise. She didn’t;t know it at the time, but it’s really what got her to turn around in the future.
