here he was, hanging upside down in a tree with his camera. he was completely blank on new ideas, and he figured that perhaps a literal change in perspective might help with that, get some blood flowing to the brain. the point is, he’s desperate. he’s got nothing, and the world was expecting everything. he was trying to get a picture, but then someone walked into his view. he glared, “do you mind?” he was much too serious and rude for a person hanging upside down in a tree.

there were jokes about how a hat and sunglasses never actually concealed an identity, but arden knew that it worked about ninety percent of the time. at the very least, it was enough to make a question in someone’s mind and he could get away before they even did their second look. though, today it seemed that his luck had run out. he was waiting for his coffee while making eye contact with another patron in the shop. “please, i will get a year’s worth of coffee if you don’t make a scene and don’t let anyone know who i am here.”

super cheap new home turns out to be haunted but the ghost is actually kind of cool and we’re essentially roommates now

i’ve known you for years and i can see that you’re not well. you look super sickly, you never leave your house and i know you haven’t been eating, please tell me you’ve not developed an addiction or are feeling s—oh, you’re a vampire. that’s… almost a relief actually.

spending a night alone in a haunted house, hearing sounds and seeing furniture move when you leave the room, only to finally investigate the ghost and to find out there’s another person who’s also spending the night in the house and thought your noises were the ghost

demon summoning ritual with a friend or a significant other who’s been very against the whole thing the entire night and when it’s done they manifest inside the circle and that’s how you find out you’ve been hanging out with a demon for years

we’re both ancient immortal beings but we look like 15 and that’s forcing us to stay on top of memes if we want to blend in and it’s simultaneously the best and the worst thing of our lives

a ghost is attached to an object. the current owner of the object moves to a new house. the new house is haunted by another ghost, and they now need t learn to live with the situation

UNIVERSITY PLOTS THAT DON’T REVOLVE AROUND HOOKUPS

muse a is a nervous person and the thought of moving away to university terrifies them. they end up living in shared accommodation and muse b is in a flat across the hall. they chat online in a group chat for the flat/building for a while then begin to talk privately, and muse b soothes their nerves about moving away and having to meet now people (cute things can pursue)

“hey i’m late on our first day and oh no, the only free seat is next to you. wait do you have a pen?”

“i’m an avid lover of ??? and this society means everything to me and during a meet up you ten up halfway through and wow okay you’re pretty sweet”

“we got paired up for a presentation but we’ve never really spoken and you’re pretty nice despite what other people say”

“so i totally didn’t spend that entire lecture doodling/on my phone and i had no clue what i was being taught pls help”

Instead of a specific plot to work around, here’s a list of settings that all feature a melancholy, moody, or creepy atmosphere. Simply send me a symbol for a setting you want to RP in, and I’ll either make a starter or approach you to plot!

u know i’ve expressed my love for fake married/fake dating many, many times but like. is anything better. is anything better on this earth. does any trope or genre truly care for us quite like this one. let us reflect on a few of the gifts that fake married/dating consistently gives us:

character a asks “hey, will you pretend to be my date for a week for [convoluted excuse that could easily be solved without a fake relationship]?” character b, fully convinced of the futility of their DEEP AND UNREQUITED LOVE, figures this’ll be a chance to spend time with them and possibly put their feelings to rest. character b is always wrong & it is always amazing.

having to SHARE A LIVING SPACE FOR ARBITRARY FIC REASONS. having to see eachother in their pajamas first thing in the morning, messy haired, drowsy eyed and soft faced. going from “you can have the bathroom first” to brushing their teeth beside eachother and feeling like this closeness has always existed (at the same time, painfully aware that it won’t always). 

related to the last one – “"practicing”“ their casual touching so that it’s easier when they’re in public. feeling SWOOPS OF ARDOR AND AGONY when they feel the brush of a hand on their neck, or an arm loop around their waist. don’t you love how fake marrieds/dates are always method actors who must FULLY INHABIT their roles. i love it. i live for it. 

bed sharing. :^) we all pretend we’re bigger than this but we are not. 

“kiss me while everyone’s looking.”

the character who wasn’t aware they were in love (maybe always had been) until the fake relationship is in full swing, realizing they have to sort their feelings out before their time together is up. sometimes they succeed and angst is minimal. most of the time they don’t, really.

telling eachother “i love you” in public and meaning it, heart aching over it, but bELIEVING THE OTHER 2 BE ACTING. my soul is still 15, this garbage still gets me. u don’t get pining better than this.

the days leading up to the end of the arrangement where one of them, still confused and muddy about their Feelings and unsure how to break things off, stiffens to the casual, reflexive touching and puts their walls back up. the other one accepts and respects this as the end of their agreement and squashes back down all the hope they ever had, stuffs it next to the heartbreak they’re ignoring deep in their chest. 

when they realize they’re actually fully and enthusiastically mutual about the way they feel and it’s, like, two parts euphoria and one part agony because they just cannOT BELIEVE, the happiness tears them in two. maybe there are weepy or laughing kisses. i don’t know but i’m usually invested like 2000%. i love fake dating/marrieds.
