yes indeed! best friends even, one could say..… the tragedy of our friendship is that we first met just a couple weeks before i moved away from texas so it took us a little while to actually become friends because i suckkkk at replying to messages (and also quite honestly was very wary of vintage dressing white femmes after a lot of horrendous past experiences i’d had 😭 ripley is literally so normal though). we both worked for the same art collective but at different times, and met through a freelance videography gig i was doing for the collective about a year after i stopped working there. we exchanged info but didn’t really talk until a year or two later, when i reached out to her about my idea for @belovedzine. i did not have very many butchfemme friends (or friends at all) at that point in my life, but i reached out to ripley without hesitation because i knew we both had the same experiences with zine making from working for the same art collective, and i trusted whatever knowledge he had on the subject. did you know beloved was originally supposed to be an old school/handmade zine??? it just blew up way too fast so we had to switch to book format! but that’s where the name “beloved zine” comes from, it was originally supposed to be a traditional handmade zine with like, maybe 40 pages max and stapled/stitched with a screenprinted cover.

but yeah we had our first ever real hangout during that winter beloved was first getting started, when i was back in town visiting. we immediately hit it off, i don’t think i’ve ever felt that close to somebody so quickly and i do think it was a sign that we’re supposed to be besties forever because of it. not to get too sappy but ripley was my first true real femme friend i ever made and i am so so so grateful to be so close, i truly do not know where i would be without all of the love she has brought into my life. the distance is killing me and i miss him every single day and cannot wait until the next time we get to see each other (which will be so so soon actually!)
