I’m grateful
that I’m better able to recognize and sit with emotions than in the past, that I’m allowing myself to do so right now.
Regret is an acceptable emotional response. All emotional responses, both comfortable and uncomfortable, are human and need to be felt. So I’m going to pause a moment and feel it.
that I’m recognizing that right now my brain is doing some mentally unhealthy things.
The regret I’m feeling isn’t itself unhealthy, but what’s fuelling it is. My desire to do things perfectly, so that I can feel only the comfortable emotions, has reared its head. As I come up on the last week of summer vacation, my brain is wishing I’d done some things differently, perfectly, so that I could look back and feel like i had a perfect summer. Like I hadn’t “wasted” opportunities.
Sorry brain, we know life doesn’t work that way. There is no perfect summer, no perfect anything.
While I would be the last person to diminish my own emotions or anyone else’s—brain, you’re being fucking silly and blowing this out of proportion. I know the number one thing we were looking forward to this summer was reading—gloriously relaxed days with nothing but book escape for hours on end…
Whether we were unlucky and just happened to keep choosing average reads, whether we kept trying too hard to make it happen and should have broken up the reading with other activities, whether perceived obligations—and reading instead of doing them—kept us from truly sinking into the enjoyment…
It is what it is. It happened as it happened. Accept that and move on. Going into the last week you can mix things up, you can engage in more obligations, you can keep trying for that book high… or some mix of the above.
What you can’t do is expect do it perfectly and feel perfectly happy and content because you did.
God I had to get this out of my brain. Grateful I did.
Part of me doesn’t want to post this and feels embarrassed that I even feel this way when there are real problems out there. When I myself have experienced real problems in the past. But no. I will post.

What are you grateful for today?
Welcome to my gratitude support group! All are welcome to be a part of the gratitude crew. Re-blog, write a note or send an ask as often as makes sense for you (just once, every day, twice a year, a few times a month— doesn’t matter!)
I tag parts of the crew almost every day. If you’d like to be on the tag list let me know.
All posts will be tagged ‘resiliencewithin’s daily gratitude group’.
Prompt (if you want): No prompt today.

I remember exactly where I was when I decided to try and start this group. I was 7 months into therapy, struggling hard with mental illness, COVID was ravaging us all and I wanted something that would force my brain to see the good, as little as it wanted to. I reached out to see if anyone would be interested in undertaking that journey with me and here we are, 5 years later. Thank you.

I cried while drawing this comic because it all felt very raw- admitting that the sadness had returned, and forgiving it/myself for being there. It can be painful to accept parts of yourself that you don't necessarily want, but it can also help you find peace. Visualizing myself hugging and forgiving the sad part of me felt cathartic. Like it wasn't her fault that she was back. I'm still working on processing how I feel, but I think making this piece helped. (  ´ᵕ` )

I’m grateful
for every person who has replied or reblogged with gratitude over the years.
It’s helped to hold me accountable to this practice. I had tried but had never been able to maintain a gratitude journal prior to starting these posts. For a brain so hardwired to think negatively, I knew it was going to be an important part of my recovery.
I was right.
It has never once felt like a tedious obligation or something I needed a break from. Y’all just gave me that extra shove I needed to make it a habit, a routine, knowing what you were here and were going to utilize these posts too.
Because of you I start every day with a delicious cup of coffee ☕️ and appreciation for what I have.
Thank you. 💛

I’m grateful
for my new library card! Yes. New. 😆 I haven’t had one for a good 15 years.
There are no locations convenient to me and I don’t love e-reading (physical books please and thank you… unless it’s fanfic, I’m fine with fanfic 🤷🏼‍♀️), or deadlines on my reading for that matter. Deadlines=stress no matter what it is for me. However, my habits with audiobooks are very different from physical books so I thought I’d give it a go. Listened to one and on to another! 🤞 Be good to save some money! But just some as the queer selection is lacking.
Also feel it’ll be great for authors I was so-so on. Those who did some things well in their books but didn’t hit overall for me. Any author tends to be hit or miss for me. Give them a second go on the e-reader before forking out more cash.
Mostly… yay reading!!!
