one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become

hiiii! i absolutely adore your posts, each and every one of your tips is so incredibly helpful and well thought out, and the way you speak is so inspiring!
i'd like your help w something i've been truly struggling with, if that's okay! ♡
do you have any tips for feeling like you've wasted your day when you haven't been productive till, like, 7 pm, and then feeling this weight of just giving up and losing the rest of the day, too, because you're not gonna get the tasks finished anyway? ;;;; :<
thank you so much! :)
oh my goodness, hi lovely! 💞 you are so sweet and adorable 🥺 i was just struggling with the motivation to get out of bed, but asks like this really help turn it around for me by reminding me of who i am and who i want to be ☺️ your struggle is so valid and it can be a difficult situation to overcome, so let's problem-solve this together! 💪
how to save a half-wasted day ⏰
i'll divide the advice into 2 sections: (1) hot fixes — what to do immediately once you've realized you want to be productive from now on, and (2) long-term solutions — how to avoid this situation in the future and be consistent
🔥🧯hot fixes
depending on how late it is and how severe your “rot” is, don't force yourself to do the productive thing right away.
there are multiple reasons why this might not work or might not be good for your psyche in the long-run, for example:
you still feel hopeless and will just give up again a short while later
you still feel hopeless OR you feel rushed and won't be able to do the necessary tasks well
the task is actually something you enjoy normally, but because you feel like you're forcing yourself, you start to lose your love for it
so to prevent these, the first step is to heal the rot, then be productive! some ideas include:
take a shower or even just wash your face and tie up your hair
eat something or drink some water or tea (please not coffee, your sleep quality is going to suffer 😟)
watch one (1) and ONLY one inspirational / motivating vlog or read one (1) and ONLY one inspirational / motivating vlog post or chapter of a favorite book
now, we're ready to be productive again! 🤗 we may not have as much time as we would like, but that's okay. there is no point in dwelling on past mistakes. we just have to deal with the situation that's in front of us now. so we prioritize even more ruthlessly.
again depending on how late it is and how much our rot has healed, we can cut more or strive for more.
hard deadlines — we can stop here if we like. i do this on low energy days, burnout days, etc. once these are dealt with, just go to bed and start again tomorrow.
daily habits — to do if we're feeling better, and we might find that we are after getting our hard-deadline items out of the way. i say tackling daily habits is the second highest priority because these are the things we don't want to break pattern on because they're so hard to get back into after
self-care tasks — cleaning, meal prepping, all the things we put off when we're going through a rot phase. sometimes i also do these to heal the rot, it depends on what you feel you need!
all other tasks — usually, if i'm trying to save a half-wasted day, i don't get to these, but i think it's really important not to feel bad about not getting to them and for me, putting them into a new to-do list for tomorrow or whenever helps with that. then i can wrap up my day with no regrets
🗺️🗓️ long-term solutions
ask yourself why you ended up wasting half the day in the first place. introspection can be uncomfortable, but it's important to be honest with yourself. remember, there's no one else here. it's just you. and this is your life.
are you burnt out?
are you suffering from health issues?
are you procrastinating?
are you stuck in a loop of tasks you don't care for?
i don't think i could list all the possibilities if i tried, so i just listed some examples that i've personally uncovered in my own life.
so have that honest conversation with yourself. you will find the heart of the issue that needs to be addressed, and once you do that, it's time to put systems in place to keep it from happening again!
your systems will vary depending on the issues you uncover, but following my examples above, it might look like:
scheduling your rot healing
taking your recovery seriously
cut your tasks down to size and other anti-procrastination tips
learn to love life again or figure out how to build the life you want
finally, once you have your system in place, stick to it! it will be hard and you will likely fail at some point or another, but remember that it's not about the failure — it's how you handle it. see: how to be consistent
💌: that was really long, but i hope this helps you, lovely! i'm rooting for you and always happy to answer any follow-up questions 💕

german tonguetwisters
except germans are metal and call them tonguebreakers instead (der Zungenbrecher)
(there's a bajillion of course, simply google "Zungenbrecher" and look at picture results. I've picked out a couple)
One's that were very present in my childhood:
Most famously: Fischers Fritz fischt frische Fische, frische Fische fischt Fischers Fritz (Fisherman Fritz fishes fresh fish 2x)
Wenn Robben hinter Robben robben, robben Robben robben nach. (When seals crawl behind (other) seals, seals crawl after (other) seals)
and its sibling: Wenn Fliegen hinter Fliegen fliegen, fliegen Fliegen Fliegen nach (die Fliege - the fly; fliegen - to fly)
In Ulm, um Ulm, und um Ulm herum (in Ulm (city), around Ulm, and around Ulm)
Ones I think are actually hard to say:
Blaukraut bleibt Blaukraut und Brautkleid bleibt Brautkleid (Red cabbage stays red cabbage and a wedding gown stays a wedding gown) - in my experience, this kills most Germans.
In einem dicken Fichtendickichts, picken dicke Finken tüchtig. (In a thick spruce thicket, fat finches are picking vigorously) - this one basically begs for spoonerisms with "ficken" (to fuck)
Ein kleiner plappernder Kaplan klebt pappige Pappplakate and die klapper de Kapellwand (A little yapping vicar glues sticky posters onto the rattling chapel)
Of course I have to mention Bodo Wartke (a german musician and musical comedian) who made short songs with lots of tonguetwisters (and expanding them) named "Zungenbrecher 4.0". Most notably "Barbaras Rhabarbarbar" (with Marti Fischer) which went viral earlier this year, as well as "Der dicke Dachdecker". By now he's made 4 10min-videos with such tonguetwisters

German Youtuber Reccomendation: Marti Fischer
mentioning Marti Fisher in a post just now, i feel i need to suggest him in general to people who think they might enjoy watching someone play around with music.
He's a musical multitalent and has been on youtube since 2007!
Back then
he became famous for his imitations ("Wunschimitationen" on YT) but especially his parody of "Chabos wissen wer der Babo ist" (a German rap song by Haftbefehl, on of the biggest German rappers at the time) which, as a German Gen Z individual, i feel is an essential part of the German Experience
Wunschimitationen (Spongebob):
(in the intro here he imitates Stefan Raab, a now retired but very famous German game show host. Imitations start at 00:43)
youtube
Chabos wissen, wer der Babo ist (Original by Haftbefehl. The title means sth like "Bros know who the boss is". Haftbefehl = "arrest warrant")
youtube
Chabos wissen, wer der Babo ist (Swing/Jazz Version by Marti Fischer)
youtube
Nowadays
he makes videos about music, current music trends, song making, as well as a series called "[song] in 5 different styles"
I can especially recommend that series. He plays around with music, shows how he gets from A to B, and is generally a super upbeat and incredibly skilled and knowledgeable guy.
I also think those videos are nice for German Learners, because the music is tangible and fun, and he talks about what he does as he's doing it, while keeping it dynamic (and it's aimed at natives! :)

Best websites for readers!!
Storygraph [OP]
Has statistics categorizing the books you've read which is great if you want to diversify your reading or if you blank out when people ask you "What books do you read"
Tumblr media
Goodreads
Has a bunch of reading lists to discover new books but web face is outdated and stuck in 2009 and the reviewers have a letterboxd complex, which are not great for book recommendations.
Figcat [also has a tumblr and pintrest acc]
Has extensive, diverse, niche reading lists. I cannot recomend more, you have to see it for yourself.
Tumblr media
Classic ghost stories list
Internet archive
Honestly, the most underrated website in my opinion, maybe because I adore old books. It's somewhat like searching a thrift store but once you get the gist of the search bar it's fairly easy to navigate.
Worldcat
See what books are in your libraries!!! Great if you don't have many good bookstores nearby and borrow instead of buy.
Thriftbooks
Buy books for cheap or find rare books that are not longer published anymore. Bonus - see the marks and notes past owners have written insider the front page.

Pledges to myself 2024/25
I will keep myself healthy: drink lots of water, take vitamins, eat fruits, fibre and protein and go to the gym min 1x per week.
I will create a routine: I will maintain a consistent sleep schedule and wake up early on weekends as it's more productive. I will commit to checking class material/writing notes or flashcards afterschool. On weekends I will get my homework done and my super-extracirculars.
I will not fall back into depression: Wash my hair 2x a week, shower consistently, bathe in sunlight, listen to calming music go out 1x per week and not socially isolated myself [beach, museums, mall, restaurant, library].
I will maintain my hobbies/interests: I will ensure that I do not neglect my true self in the chaotic pursuit of grades, given there are so many opportunities to get into my desired career path. Carving out time to watch carefully successful films, reading epubs at school and during home revision sessions but still reading the overdue physical books in my library.
I will be forgiving to myself: Balancing a healthy headspace by discouraging thoughts and comments that will degrade my mental wellbeing and self-esteem. [granted if they aren't sincere critical comments and just purely spiteful]

My Study/Student Beliefs
Rejection is redirection
Long term>>> Short term
- Whether in exam results, skills, friendships etc
Health is wealth
- Nutrition and sleep are more important than cramming or anything else in your life. It should remain a constant. (Working on exercise tho lmao). If your body breaks, your mind will soon follow.
Misery attracts bad fortune
- You cannot let school responsibilities overtake your responsibility to keep yourself happy.
-Happy is a relative term and I'm not encouraging a "hedonistic" lifestyle. Rather you should commit to a lifestyle outside work which is a good habit to follow throughout your life. It's key to have something that helps you to get you into deep focus or reinstates your passion for learning other than your actual workload.
-For example, if you feel that you don't paint or read enough during the school term, carve out min 20 mins and start from their. The key is to break the cycle of inactivity which is neglecting the self outside "work" and "school".
-As a result you'll feel more rejuvenated and successful in doing something relaxing other than lounging and watching something on a screen passively.
Be social
- It may seem daunting at first but being isolated from your peers in crucial periods such as exam seasons is tough.
-Socialisation is great for the brain and vice versa isolation will make your memory worse and increase anxiety
-It is important to practice being social because stepping out of your comfort zone is a crucial part of learning! In future you'll need to approach teachers or head of year/Subjects you've never seen before so it's important you don't chicken out in important meetings by practicing.

Study Trick That No One Told Me.
Division of subjects:
Every subject is learnt and graded in a different way. You can't use the same study techniques for every subject you have. You have mostly 3 types of subjects:
Memorization based
Practical/Question based
Theory/Essay based
Memorization based:
Mostly Biology, Sciences, Geography etc are fully based on memorization and so you'll use memory study techniques like flash cards and active recall.
Practical/Question based:
Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Accountancy etc are practice subjects. The more you do your questions and understand how a sum is done, the better you can score.
Theory/Essay based:
English, history, business studies etc are theory based. The more you write, the way you write and the keywords you use are the only things that will get you your grades. So learn the formats and the structure on how to write your answers
Note: Some subjects are a combination of the three. Like Economics etc
The reason we divide the subjects is because you can adopt the right study methods for the right subject. Like ex: business studies is mostly based on how you write your answer and the keywords, if you're gonna spend your time memorizing in this, it's a waste of time and energy.
Hope this helps :)
