Audi is now facing up to the most extreme conditions. Audi is the first car manufacturer that has committed to develop a viable alternative drive concept for the Dakar Rally, making it a pioneer in motorsport once again. In 2012, Audi achieved the first victory of a hybrid racing car in the Le Mans 24 Hours. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro remained unbeaten in the world’s most important endurance race three times in a row. The Dakar Rally will replace Audi’s factory involvement in Formula E, which will no longer be continued in the form of an Audi factory team after the 2021 season.
The use of the newly developed Audi powertrain by customer teams will remain possible beyond next year.

Kamaz Truck races a rally car on one of the world's most dangerous roads: the D-915 in Turkey. D-915 is one of the most challenging roads in the world. Located on the boundary of the Black Sea region and the Northeast Anatolia region, in northeast Turkey, the road is extreme, bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters unprotected by guardrails. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides. Only the suicidal, the insane, or the paid-to-do-this should ever drive down. This road has humbled many egos. One mistake and it's a free fall to your death.
The road is 106km (65 miles) long and runs south-north from Bayburt (the provincial capital of Bayburt Province in the Northeast Anatolia region) towards Of (a small coastal town in Trabzon Province in the Black Sea region), via 29 sharp hairpin turns.

Watch the full presentation as the route for the 2021 Dakar Rally is announced. The organizer ASO has announced the Dakar Rally will run entirely in Saudi Arabia for a second successive year in 2021, but on a route that is "100% new". Saudi Arabia had an exclusivity clause for the first year of the five-year deal, but the ASO had been working to add a second country for the 2021 race, with both Egypt and Jordan believed to have been considered to join their bordering Gulf nation. The 43rd edition of the event will begin on 3 January in Jeddah and conclude in the same coastal city on 15 January after 11 stages and a prologue that will determine the starting order for the opening special.
A rest day will be observed in the city of Ha'il on January 9.

F1 world champion Fernando Alonso suffered a big crash on the 10th stage of the Dakar Rally as he rolled his Toyota twice. The Spaniard lost control of his Toyota Hilux while driving over a sand dune and subsequently flipped into a double barrel roll before landing back on its wheels.
Both Alonso and his co-driver Marc Coma were unhurt in the incident, and Alonso even proceeded to immediately drive away from the scene despite losing his windscreen.

Stage 9 liaison : 476 km – Timed special > 415 km – Total = 891 km. With this long stage, the Dakar prepares to enter the “Empty Quarter”. The main factor will be driving precision, this time with mainly hard ground and a number of rough portions for those who are not careful enough.
On reaching Haradh, built around oil and agriculture, the rally enters a new phase.

We are sad beyond words to share that Paulo Goncalves, passed away today. Paulo Gonçalves, racing on motorcycle Nr. 8, has passed away from a fall sustained 276 kilometers into today's special. A medical helicopter reached the biker at 10:16 and found him unconscious after going into cardiac arrest. Following resuscitation efforts in situ, the competitor was taken by helicopter to Layla Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. 40-year-old Paulo Gonçalves was taking part in his 13th Dakar. He made his debut in 2006 and had finished four times in the top 10, including an impressive performance as runner-up to Marc Coma in 2015.
Paulo Gonçalves, the 2013 cross-country rallies world champion, was sitting in 46th place overall after stage 6 of the 2020 Dakar. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. A true champion, a great human being and, above all, a kindred spirit. RIP, Speedy Goncalves

Top 5 in Moto and car class before the 7th stage (after rest day in Ryhad) Baja 1000 winner pretty much in control at the bikes with a 20 minutes lead. Things are a little more tight at car class. And again: day 7!!!
There are some mean stages still waiting to be conquered.

It’s for all (Bikes - Quads - Cars - SxS - Trucks) the same today: 830km, liaison: 353 km / 219 miles, timed special: 477 km / 296 miles. The change of scenery from the last few days to now is dramatic. This time, the special stage is 100% sand, entirely off-road. After a relatively fast first section, obstacle experts will have the advantage in the dunes. Drivers having previously honed their skills in the Sahara Desert will certainly have the upper hand. Then it will be time to rest.

For many reasons, Taye Perry will be one to watch in the bike race. Not only is she fun, smiles all the time, not only will she battle it out to become the first African woman to finish the Dakar on a bike, she’ll also be one of the smallest competitors in the history of the Dakar. But the fact she’s 1m58 certainly isn’t a concern for the South African “warrior” who started riding bikes from the age of 12.
Part of the Nomade Racing team, she learnt to adapt to the big KTM 450 rally bike and intends on surprising the world on the paths and in the dunes of Saudi Arabia.

Mini driver Vaidotas Zala claimed a shock maiden stage win in the first special at 2020 Dakar Rally. Toyota’s defending champion Nasser Al-Attiyah led the way for most of the 319km timed special on the coastal stage from Jeddah to Al Wajh that kicked off the first ever Saudi Arabia-based Dakar. But the Qatari suffered three punctures late on, paving the way for an upset. Sainz made it a Mini 1-2-3 behind Zala and Peterhansel, while Al-Attiyah mitigated the damage from his late-stage travails in fourth place, 5m33s off the pace.
F1 Worldchampion Fernando Alonso finished stage 11th 15 minutes and 27 seconds off the pace set by the leader in his first-ever Dakar stage.

Ricky Brabec (Mira Loma, California, 21st April 1991) proved himself to be one of the clear favorites in the most recent edition of the Dakar Rally. The rider could have even grabbed the final glory had it not been for a mechanical setback. From the Californian desert, this budding star of the Monster Energy Honda is, once again, poised to shine in the most important race of the year.
Physically, he does feel really good. Mentally, he's still working on it. He had a tough break in the 2019 Dakar and it was pretty hard getting back in the saddle and pushing for victory after that one. There’s a lot of emotions and mixed feelings.
We’re going to a different country, to Saudi Arabia, so no-one is familiar with the country and no-one has any insight into the route. We’re all going in pretty equal, not knowing what the heck is going on. It’s going be fairer. You know, it’s not going to be like, ‘Hey I know a guy that says that here is like this or whatever.’ We are all going in basically blind.
