i adore that jacob said that louis is also quite a headfuck and a lot to take on even for someone like lestat, because a lot of times people act like he's this level-headed normal guy who got saddled with a basket case husband he has to manage, when really it's crazy4crazy in the loustat household. and i love that ❤️

What’s gonna actually be brutal for Louis in S3 is not only finding out that everything Lestat said about his past whether it’s Magnus or his father and brothers beating him was actually true all along, it’s finding out it was actually a whole lot worse than what he was told.

He’s going to know about how Gabrielle treated Lestat, exactly what Magnus did to him, Armand’s hand in everything, and piecing together that Lestat’s rockstar behaviors are not attention seeking or just a way to get back at him. It’s Lestat communicating that he’s drowning in his trauma and trying to endure.

He’s crashing out extremely badly and needs his help.

V I’m still not over having so much jam!! 😭😭 We really missed them so much and you can tell how different it is when they’re alone and without each other. TVL: 7th week of production

Locations:

Nothing.

There is no filming happening at the moment. Many crew members have been on vacation or off work this past week. That doesn't mean production is completely on hold. Sam went straight back to Toronto after SDCC, but there is little news.

Luckily, some new details from previous filming locations have popped up.

An extra who worked on the Phoenix Theater shoot posted photos from the concert and shared their experience, confirming that Sam sang Long Face one day and a new song the next while playing the violin.

The source material is 40 years old this year. With the way Rolin & co have been holding on to the book (physically and mentally) in almost every interview since season 3 has been announced, you would think that more people would be willing to take some deeper dives into the book to understand Lestat's story. I agree with you that what bothers me is that we just know there are going to be people upset when the story is not simply......Lestat and Louis funny fighting, sexy scenes, and Lestat being dramatic 🤷‍♀️

Yes, but as I've said before, that's the nature of the beast when it comes to fandom. Audiences are fickle and shallow, and many book readers themselves only have a surface level reading of Lestat.

On a semi-related note, I watched a video from a fan who was in the audience at the SDCC panel, and she expressed the same sentiments as me in that Lestat's sexual trauma is being dismissed and minimized in favor of salivating over his body, which is ironic within itself. She mentioned the moment when Sam was trying to speak on how Lestat's upbringing and past experiences (Armand and Magnus) was the blueprint for Lestat's hyper-sexualization as a trauma response, and the audience wasn't taking it seriously at all. She said they were literally cat-calling Sam, screaming at him to demonstrate the Lestat gyrating, and overall just being tone-deaf and rude. Even the panel moderator was making sexual jokes about Sam (not the first time he's done it) to the point you can clearly see Jacob mouth to Sam "are you okay?" because it was making him visibly uncomfortable.

And that's just a small sampling of how Lestat is not given the same grace as the other characters and how Lestat's trauma is often mocked and minimized in favor of painting him as just the drama queen who hoots and hollers and is teehee cute and sexy and funny.

Like, no. As Rolin has already said, Lestat had one of the most traumatic entrances into vampirism after a lifetime of abuse and neglect, and the vampirism merely compounded the mountains of trauma from which he already suffered.

Don't get me wrong. There will be funny moments, because Lestat does have a wicked sense of humor. He is a lover. He is full of light and hope and insatiable positivity.

He's also extremely traumatized and damaged and full of self-loathing and self-blame.

For example, the strip club scene with him and Gabrielle in the trailer. The layers to that scene are being dismissed in favor of "hahahahah Lestat goes clubbing with his mom hahahahaha Lestat the motherfucker."

Meanwhile, look at Lestat's actual face while Gabrielle is kissing one of the dancers —

He looks bewildered here. Like he's regressing back into that boy who was shocked and disconcerted to the point of laughter when Gabrielle told him she wanted to run naked through the village and sleep with every man around in defiance of his father.

So yeah, it's not truly funny or titillating when you step back and look at how it shaped Lestat and how it traumatized him and left him emotionally scarred to the point he thinks his only value is his body as a representation of the love and acceptance he desperately craves but feels he's not worthy of ever truly having.
