Johnica Week 2025

Hi everyone and welcome to the 6th Johnica Week! This year, 2025, is a special one because we're here to appreciate John and Veronica on their 50th wedding anniversary!

As for now, 2025 might be the last Johnica Week I will organise (unless there's still demand, I might organise a celebration day on their anniversary but not a whole multi-days event) but don't worry, I will keep running this blog to share Johnica fics and fanarts, and the masterlist will always stay open if you want your creations to be added! 

When is the event? 📆

This year the event starts on Thursday 16th January and ends on Sunday 19th January, with Saturday 18th being the 50th Wedding Anniversary!

The Theme 👑

The 50th wedding anniversary is obviously a huge milestone, usually called “golden anniversary”, and GOLD is the main theme of this celebration! 

Gold is malleable and flexible, like the compromises made between a long-term married pair in order to make it to this milestone year.

Then, it is resilient, impervious to heat and acid, and acts as a reflection of the eternal endurance of a long-term union.

Last but not least, its rarity and luxurious nature is an ideal reflection of the precious nature of a long-term marriage.

Gold is not just a symbol of money or luxury, but represents a strong and deep relationship, showing how much the two value each other beyond just material things. Keeping this in mind, this might help you as an underlying prompt or starting point for the theme of your creation for this event! 

Some of the daily prompts are based on Gold: memories, special objects, themes, songs, plus a classic romantic fic trope each day. As always, you don't have to follow the prompts, feel free to let your imagination fly!

You're encouraged to join with your preferred creative media or challenge yourself with something new! Fanfictions, drawings, comics, poetry, collages and photo edits, moodboards, anything you like! Like all Ship Weeks, this is a fandom event to share love and creativity related to a particular couple, so be sure to engage with the entries and support all the artists and writers that chose to join! Support the authors by leaving likes, a comment (even a little one!) and sharing their work. On AO3 you don’t need an account to leave Kudos and Comments! (Unless the author has willingly prevented guests to comment). To leave a comment on AO3 you simply have to choose a temporary mail and set your email to get a notification for an eventual reply.

If a work is not tagged appropriately, you can reach out to me via DM and I’ll warn the author. If anything makes you uncomfortable, simply close the work! Do not engage by leaving nasty comments or messaging the author!

Hey, I was wondering if you could share this with event hosts.

It would be great if those in charge of running events could post their prompts and/or themes well in advance. I love writing for events, but it can sometimes take a bit to get my writing finished. Real life gets in the way at times. If we had more time to plan what we are doing for these events, that would greatly help. A couple of months notice would help a lot, but the more in advance we know, the better.

The dates for the event are 6th-9th of December, 2024 . In the weeks leading up to it, we will post and reblog things featuring our happy couple!

In response to the fantasy week thing:

I ran Maylor Week this year and also co-ran the Fuckuary event. I would LOVE to see niche events - some writers just don't find the ship specific weeks/weekends to be up their alley. And some ships also don't get a week/weekends either, so if they write for those ships, they're out of luck when it comes to the regular events.

If they do decide to create said event, I know I'd look forward to seeing the works that come out of it, and I would love to participate in it!

My two cents - I'm one of the polyweek organizers (wordsoflove)!

I've been in the fandom since late 2018 and fandom traffic simply isn't what it was in 2019-2021 to get enough participation rates and that's okay. Poly!Queen is so personal for me and that's why I wanted to co-host the event this year. And as a base rule for any event, unfortunately, you simply have to be prepared for the worst case scenario of minimum participation, which I was. It didn't take the joy out of the event and I loved reading and engaging with however many entries there were because they were written genuinely by good friends.

So I guess - gauge the interest, prepare for the worst, and if you still love it go for it. Otherwise, think if it'd be more fulfilling to just directly write something yourself!

I'm gonna be very frank re: the fantasy event:

It's a niche au/trope/set of prompts that were used in many events this year and not utilized by hardly anyone. Why bother having a full event for it when all the events cover fantasy in one way or another and got barely any participation?

I hosted 5 events and only myself and my cohost participated in most of them and our engagement was minimal, I know the other events that happened had very similar turn out.

What I'd rather hear from people is what we as event runners can do to up PARTICIPATION and EMGAGEMENT. Like, should we announce sooner? Maybe create polls for prompt voting? People want content and events but then don't actually submit anything or leave comments or anything on what IS posted/submitted. It's very discouraging as a creator AND as an event runner. And idk if the other event runners feel this way too, but I can't imagine they don't. They put in all this work to get crumbs.

(all these questions are not for you, my friend behind the calendar account, but more for the people who follow you and WANT these events)
