Never Can Say Goodbye...

Someone once said, if you push your mind your body will follow. This semester was one of the most challenging emotionally and physically, regardless the academic outcome I’m proud of how far my work ethic has come and the progress I’ve made as a student and soldier. I had to drop a class to keep up with the oncoming course load I took for the semester and it worked out pretty well because I did very well in my ROTCclass, passed my Grammar Spelling Punctuation test, and redeemed myself in a class I dropped a while back and got an A. I am very pleased. MCJ 102 by far was the hardest class I’ve taken in my three years of being here. The work load almost made me change my major, but I refuse to change my path over an obstacle. I learned so much about media writing and more about AP styleand how to write in it. AP writing is way different than what I am used to. I’m glad I didn’t drop the class because I learned a lot and will hopefully one day apply these skills, after I perfect them, to a career one day.

La Vie Zoé

Haiti is a tourist dream vacation spot, but for me It’s home away from home. In the suburbs of Port-Au-Prince, Ayiti,my uncle owns a two-story home where my grandmother lives. At the ripe old age of 85, she cooks 3 meals a day, does house work although advised not to, and teaches herself a new language every other year. When I was a little girl she would bring me around the adequate parts of the island to explore the beautiful beaches and the city since they lived at the time, and still live so far away from it. She wanted me to see how beautiful my father’s country despite to portrayal of it on media and the mean things is my peers said to me for being part Haitian. She is the person who gave me pride in my Haitian culture. This year July will be the first time I get to see my grandmother in four years. Due to my status and unfortunate events going om in the area I was not able to visit for a while, but now that things are better in Port-Au-PrinceI have been cleared to go, and I can’t wait!

Marvel Fans Can Finally Breathe.

For die-hard Marvelfans, Avengers: End Game was a very serious matter. The movie was released April 25, 2019 in early release to theaters in the U. S and select countries.

After Avengers: Infinity War so many fans were heartbroken and waiting in anticipation for the introduction of Captain Marvel and the End Game finale. Captain Marvel gave fans more hope against the antagonist Thanos, who is the reason for all the mayhem and despair in Avengers: Infinity War. End Gameis supposed to be the redemption and resurrection for the Avengers and “The Vanished.” There were a lot of heartbreaking scenes and some that may make you cry of joy as some (and I) did in the theater as suspense was building and characters returned and disappeared. Avengers: End Game is planned to be the last of the Avengers saga and is anticipated to be another multi-million box office film.

Talk to me...

Writing and communicating in today’s fast pace world is challenging. Everything is virtually instant and at your fingertips on a daily basis. No one has time or desire to listen or read the gritty details, they want it short and sweet.  Right now. Giving the people what they want and keeping thing simple I feel that some details and important parts of the story may be lost, but as a writer you have to decide what you want to get across and choose your words wisely so you’re portraying your message the way you want it to mean. Leave the reader or persons you communicate with no room to misunderstandyou.

Changing this social issue, I feel would be a setback in society. As a race we find ways to evolve which just means our methods of communication need to evolve as well. The new wave of communication should not be changed, just understood and perfected.

Social Media & The Journalist

Communicationformats that are most useful/ successful these days are blogs, forums, and file sharing on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I don’t believe twitter is the new Facebook because it’s still used by a wide demographic of people, Twitter has yet to replace Facebook because it continues to evolve. Childhood Illness Makes a Comeback...

The U.S has seen the biggest case of the measles it’s seen since 2000. Also know as mumps and Rubella, there has been reported over 659 cases across the states after lingering outbreaks in New York and Washington. The CDC says, “The longer these outbreaks continue, the greater the chance measles will again get a sustained foothold in the United States.” It’s been found that the measles were spread airborne for travelers in and out the states. The travelers went to Asia, Europe, The Pacific, Isreal, and Africa. These countries are still widely infected with the disease. Symptoms of the measles introduce itself as a rash, death, and brain swelling,

Getting vaccinated for the measles will protect you from contracting it in any form. The majority of people who got the disease were not vaccinated and reached communities of people in the U.S who also neglected to get the vaccine. CDC is encouraging those who have yet to get vaccinated to do so immediately to prevent Americans from the disease.

Unfrozen

Recent research has discovered that a  massive Greenland glacier that was once  known as the fastest shrinking glacier on Earth is now growing again. Scientists from NASA recently reported their discoveries about the Jakobshavn glacier, which sits off the island’s west coast.  According to NASA for the past 20 years Jakobshavn  has been Greenland’s fastest-flowing and fastest-thinning glacier. During this time period , it was also considered the single largest source of mass loss from the Greenland Ice Sheet. Due to the glacier’s size and activity, researchers have used it to help predict world sea level rise. Researchers have reported that since 2016, the glacier has increased in  major thickening and it’s  flow has became more slow and steady and is currently moving toward the ocean, instead of retreating inland. It has been said cooling waters in the North Atlantic Ocean have caused the changes in the glacier’s activity.

Jussie Smollett Attack

Justin Smollett, 36, is a Brazilian-American actor who was a victim of a racist/homophobic attack on January 29, 2019 in Chicago Illinois. Known for his role in Empire, that seems to have made him a target, his attackers were two masked men around 2 p.m. Smollett put up a fight, but was punched, kicked, saturated with a chemical substance, and had rope tied around his neck. The attackers expressed racial and homophobic slurs then referenced MAGA county (make America great again), a term used by Trump supporters.

Despite Smollett being the victim in this unfortunate event, there became suspicion from the Chicago police department that Smollett orchestrated the attack after not handing over his phone to authorities because he feared for the privacy of the content in his phone and that Smollett’s story was misleading because he was reluctant to contact police. Smollett was charged with a felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report after allegedly staging an attack. On March 26 an emergency hearing was held for Smollett where all charges against him were dropped given there was no evidence the attack was staged.

The Marathon Continues...

Ermias Joseph Asghedom, 33, also known as rapper Nipsey Hussle The Great, was shot and killed in front of his clothing store in Los Angeles, California with two others men on March 31, 2019. Nipsey Hussle was more than just a rapper, he was a father, a husband, a community activist, an entrepreneur, a motivator and so much more. Hussle suffered from two gunshot wounds, one in the torso and one to the head that killed him an hour After the shooting. CNN Nipsey Hussle Surveillance 

 Eric Holder has been arrested and formally charged with the murder of Nipsey Hussle on April 4, 2019. Holder and Hussle allegedly knew each other before the incident in gang related affiliation. Hussle did not want his presence around his place of work and angered Holder. Holder later came back in a white, 2016, Chevrolet Cruze and shot Hussle and the two men outside with him who suffered gunshot wounds, but are still living.

This is Me.

A soldier, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a busy college student. I am an amiable person by every means, but won’t back down from a challenge. This is who I am as a person in a nutshell. My story began in Norwalk, Connecticut on May fourth 1998 to my pan-Africanist mother, and Haitian father. I  enjoy doing things like watching old movies. Reading, shopping, running, and making wigs. The purpose of  this blog is to inform my readers about current events.

I chose my major because I wanted to go into journalism but I wanted to leave my options open as far as how I use my degree. Not to limit myself to writing articles and reviews,but be able to do TV broadcast, media management, or be a web content manager. When I graduate from the Mass Communication; Public Relations program, I would like to coordinate a social media page for a corporation or agency.Corporations that use social media I have always been impressed by the way social media can benefit a brand or anything up and coming.(How social media can promote your business) It can be free advertising if you have a substantial following and you don’t have to wait for a print to release. Social media makes things instant which is great for a world where everyone can access virtually everything at their fingertips.
