I’ve been thinking about this song a lot recently and I think I’ve realized that (this was probably not the way originally intended when the song was made, obviously william finn didn’t know about the AIDS epidemic in 1979) this song is a “flash foreword” to the end of Falsettos. The little motif that is in the background of “Falsettoland: Reprise” is the same thats in the background of “In Trousers: The Dream”. It also just works better in that context I think.

Also I think a lot of people are trying to figure out who all of the ladies are specifically but I think that it’s more symbolic. I just cant figure out what it’s symbolizing. 😀
