Urgent: looking for a home!

This is Buddy.

He’s a cat that my parents have had since he was a kitten. Eleven years now.

He is a gigantic cuddle bug, and likes to spend his nights laying next to you, keeping you warm (and stealing your warms).  He likes drinking water from the faucet, so when you brush your teeth, you might need to push him out of the way. If you don’t close the door before your shower, you also might end up with him in the shower with you. It’s okay, he just likes water, as long as it’s his choice.

Unfortunately, he and his littermate are, for some reason, no longer getting along. After 11 years, they have decided that they suddenly hate one another. This has lead to almost five months of visits to vets, treatments, rearranging lives and household furniture. 

His littermater was sick and was peeing all over the house. The good news is that they both have clean bills of health now. The bad news is that, because Buddy still SMELLS it, he’s still going to the bathroom all over my parent’s house. Despite the almost five months of working to rehabilitate these two, it hasn’t worked.

My parents have contacted rescues and no kill shelters. They are either full, or don’t take owner surrenders.

The truth of the matter is this:

Unless we are able to find a foster home, and hopefully a new forever home, Buddy is going to have to be put to sleep. He can’t keep living in my family’s bathroom. My family can’t follow him around his every moment that he is let outside of the bathroom to keep him from using the bathroom all over the house instead of his box.

This old, cuddly man needs a new place to live. And it needs to be a place where he will be appreciated for who he is, and will give him the love that we still have. It’s that love that is making us try to exhaust every possibility for him. 

He is scared of dogs, and with the issues he has been having with his brother, I’m not sure how he would do with another cat in the household. Buddy would likely do the best if he was an only child in the house. 

That being said, he was fine for 11 years before. If you have the patience and heart to work with him, life with other pets might be possible. 

My family lives in south eastern Wisconsin. I’m more than willing to drive into Illinois or towards Minnesota too, for the right home for him. All over Wisconsin too. 

I promise you a clean bill of health for him, and a kitty that won’t hide from humans. A litter box and a healthy appetite comes with him, as does a fondness for fuzzy blankets on the laps of “his human” to snore away on.

I’m happy to meet you halfway, if you’re from further away than the Midwest states. If it means finding him a good home, it’s worth it.

It's 4am, my human Sora was on her phone looking at cats on tumblr. I came to remind her she has her own floof to love

Honestly, I'm an all pet person. Not just cats. Not just dogs. I've have a bird, I've had hampsters, rabbits, a guinie pig, aquatic albino frogs, and a dog. I love pets. But it wasn't until I met the guy on the left that I truly saw how amazing cats could be. I don't have a picture, but I grew up with a soft coated wheaten terrior, dog. I loved how much he loved to be around people. How affectionate our Mickey was. However, I had little opinion of cats growing up. Any cats my friends had were "love me on my own terms" type of cats. Which mostly meant I could pet them for a few seconds and they were done. I didn't hate cats. I just didn't have an opinion of them. At least not until 5ish years ago, I met a gimpy, 20 pound tabby named Fred. He's my stepmoms cat, but when I moved in with my dad and stepmom, Fred really became mine. He slept with me every evening. He is very playful. He loves to just lay with you. Fred is the reason my heart grew for cats. So. When I moved in with my s.o. we talked about what kind of pet we would get. We both agreed a cat would be easier for our busy life style since we can't come back in the middle of the day to let a dog outside. Well, one night, whilst enjoying martinis with my s.o., my mom and her boyfriend, my s.o. was casually scrolling through petfinder.com. It was there we discovered Sorin. A 1-2 year old Raggamuffin/ Tabby mix. This little boy has all the love to spare. He's constantly with us. He doesn't care when or how you pick him up. He loves to be carried. He loves to just sit on your lap and watch t.v. with you, or nap against your leg. He's spoiled for sure. But the amount of love Sorin gives can rival any dog. If it wasn't for Fred, I wouldn't have seen how affectionate cats could be. And now with Sorin, I couldn't be happier.
