I’ll never get over the amalgamates getting to go back home to their families in True Pacifist. I’m so, so used to stories that go, “this person is too broken, physically or mentally or both, to ever be put back together. they’re not the way they once were, so they’re good as dead. killing them is the only act of mercy.“
I’m so glad Undertale didn’t do that.
The True Lab intentionally plays on horror tropes. Phantasmal pursuers whose ability to appear and disappear defy logical attempts at evasion. Mutated, undead shambling creatures whose original selves are utterly destroyed.
But…like the rest of Undertale’s relationship to RPG tropes…subversion occurs.
It becomes increasingly clear that the amalgamates aren’t evil ghosts or mindless zombies. They’re victims of medical malpractice who miss their families. And when we find them returned to their families…they’re happy. Their families are happy. Things are different now, yea. It’s pretty weird for everyone. The new situation will take some time getting used to. But… it’s mostly good.

HI YES THAT WAS ME UHM-
It was so cute and I really love your writing style !!! ^^
I was having a pretty shit day so knowing this was posted today made me giddy and feel like a five year old getting the Christmas present they'd been waiting for.
Thank you for writing this for me... :}
Hi uhm. I'm a really big amaguji ( Rantaro x Korekiyo ) fan. And there's not a lot of fics and other stuff about them as I'd like out there. I don't have really any specifics ( but fluff is preferred ), so do what with your heart's content with the two. I'm ecstatic to see what you create !! ^^

The Boy From The Library || Rantaro Amami x Korekiyo Shinguji Fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Rantaro Amami (DRV3) x Korekiyo Shinguji (DRV3) RAREPAIR!!! :D Summary: Rantaro heads to the library for an afternoon study session, only to be met with his elusive classmate who seems to know a whole lot about the topic. Warning: None :) Word Count: 1.7k
This was cute to write, can you tell I adore both of these characters with all my heart? Anyway, please consider reblogging, liking and commenting as it helps my blog grow a lot, any feedback is considered helpful so don't be shy. ALSO request!! I write any danganronpa/squid game pairings, friendships or characters in any genre! (including smut for you freakier anons < me too dw ;D) Enjoy reading, AJ! :)
Rantaro Amami set his books down in the library and began to study. It was finals week at the Academy and everybody was cramming as much as they could. His fellow classmates were feeling under the pump as well. Shuichi Saihara, the Ultimate Detective had planned a study group, but Rantaro knew exactly what was going to happen there. The rowdiest classmates would show up and they'd get minimal work and minimal sleep. It happened last time, and Amami was one of the few there who had to live off of caffeine during his exam. Rantaro was the quiet type, he'd keep to himself and always enjoyed the peace and quiet. Sometimes he felt like he was in the wrong class, everybody there was so loud and eccentric and boisterous. He could hardly keep up with all of it. Still, Amami didn't mind the quiet. He didn't mind being an outcast.
He had kept tabs on everybody who was in the class, and the person who puzzled him the most was Korekiyo Shinguji. The boy was a mystery, closed off and quiet. Rantaro was intrigued by him, but never wanted to bother him. He was always sitting by himself at the back of the class adjusting his mask or twirling his hair elegantly. Rantaro knew almost nothing about him, and yet his mind would drift to him as he sat.
During lunchtimes when all of the other students were sitting around and talking or walking around the halls of the academy Rantaro would be studying for an exam, reading up on new knowledge or talking to Tsumugi Shirogane. Tsumugi was his friend, the girl was an equal amount of odd as she was relaxed. This meant she gelled with everybody in the class, she was loud but not too loud, bouncy but not too bouncy. Rantaro sort of admired her for that, but Korekiyo had never once talked to them.
He had been seen talking with a lowerclassman, a girl with thin, long black hair and red lipstick. He wondered if they were siblings. The more Rantaro thought about Korekiyo the less he realised that he knew. He didn't even know his talent. Rantaro turned the page on the book, which was dry with age. It was yellowed and crisp, the air conditioning in the library fluttering the corners of the pages as he scanned his eyes onwards. It was a book on The Aztecs, which Rantaro found absolutely mind-numbingly boring, but he persisted with the book as he knew in his exam for history there would be questions on it. Jotting down notes his head grew heavy. His posture was slumped over the book, he had been reading for what felt like hours.
His dedication to his studies was a lot, but he was mainly exhausted because of his sisters. He had 12 younger sisters at home, all bundles of energy. He was lucky enough to get a scholarship into Hope's Peak, otherwise he didn't know how his parents would afford the luxurious academy.
Rantaro often babysat 5 or 6 of them at a time, and last night he had stayed up late with one of them. Another reason Rantaro didn't choose to join the study group with Shuichi Saihara and Kaito Momota was because he valued and needed his sleep. He took a sip of the green tea that he had brought in a travel mug and felt immediately refreshed. Continuing to read the words before him his eyes began to droop. He rested his head on his arm, promising himself that it would only be a minute before he got back to his studies.
When Rantaro opened his eyes a golden glow had settled over the room, the sun shone brilliantly through the window the amber rays hitting Rantaro's face delicately. As the angle hit just right Amami could make out the dust particles floating around the room, creating whirlwinds and whispers for Rantaro to admire.
Rantaro jolted upright when he saw a figure seated next to him, he rubbed his eyes and attempted to wipe the stray trail of drool that had come out of his mouth during his nap. He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear before making out that the figure was none other than the boy who he had been so entranced by however earlier it had been. He checked his watched and realised that he had "rested his eyes" for an entire hour.
"Ah, I apologise..." The boy spoke quietly, keeping his voice as level and emotionless as ever. "I didn't mean to pry. I was just reading up on your book... beautiful... kehehe..." he laughed, trailing his sentences off ominously. It was mannerisms like this that made Rantaro all the more interested in him.
"No need to apologise, I find the topic to actually be really dull." Rantaro chuckled, and then realised that he was talking friendly to a boy he had never once spoken to. It was new, he'd rather be with someone than not. "I'm Rantaro Amami, by the way." He smiled, showing his teeth to the masked boy who just nodded in reply.
"I am aware of you... Rantaro." He spoke elusively, deliberately, pausing to really let his sentences sink in. Amami felt blood rush to his cheeks, Korekiyo didn't notice this cue and continued to read on with the book. "I think that this topic is beautiful. I am the Ultimate Anthropologist after all... do you know what that is, Rantaro?" There it was again, the way that Amami's name just rolled off of his tongue so delicately, like Korekiyo was taking care of the syllables. Rantaro avoided eye contact nervously and shook his head.
"Ah, I see. Anthropology studies customs, legends, folktale and so much more" He closed his eyes as he spoke, reminiscing his studies and passions. Rantaro stared at him, his eyes widening in awe as he listened. Korekiyo rambled on about customs and traditions, he even said that he believed human beings are truly beautiful. The way that the light shone and reflected off his hair made Rantaro believe the same thing, Shinguji was elegant. Like a raven, mysterious and beautiful.
Then, words left Rantaro's mouth that he never thought he would say. "Can you help me study?" The question came so suddenly, he was surprised at himself for taking the leap. Korekiyo let out a small chuckle, his eccentric laugh echoing through the silent walls of the library.
"Of course I can... Rantaro. Call me Kiyo. That is how my dearest of friends address me after all." Korekiyo met Rantaro's eyes, they stayed there like that for a moment unmoving before Rantaro realised that Kiyo was waiting for him to address him as how he would prefer it, the simple nickname.
Rantaro spoke it, the word rolling off his tongue just as waves rolled over the ocean floor. His jaw loosened as he spoke it, like the anthropologist's name had placed a spell over him that made all of his worries disappear and all other thoughts fade away from his mind. Rantaro was enthralled by Korekiyo, his composure and his mannerisms, the way his whole life was a mystery. Rantaro just wanted to unravel it. Maybe it was part of his ultimate talent, the Ultimate Adventurer was very curious. As was Korekiyo Shinguji. Rantaro was developing a unique fascination towards him, something he had never felt before for anybody. As Korekiyo began to speak, the words behind his mask weaving into stories and customs and worlds Rantaro felt his opinion of the dullness of the topic before disintegrating.
Listening to Kiyo talk about something he was so passionate about melted away any feelings of annoyance or doubt. His piercing gaze held with Rantaro's the whole time, and Rantaro noticed the specks of gold in his eyes, his pale skin like porcelain.
"Do you think that will help your exam?" Korekiyo asked, absolutely oblivious to the warmth Rantaro was feeling for him. He fiddled with the button on his uniform as he awaited an answer. Rantaro let out a slight cough, clearing his throat before he spoke.
"Yes. Thank you, Korekiyo." He smiled softly, placing a relaxed hand on the back of his head and chuckling. He felt extremely safe with Korekiyo. That was when Korekiyo began to speak again.
"I am fascinated by you... Rantaro Amami." He spoke, leading Rantaro to wonder what he truly meant. Everything he said was like a layer Amami had to pick off before finding the real meaning of his words. He inspected Kiyo, looking him up and down, but his body gave no cues to what he should say next.
"Thank you." He finished, finally. Korekiyo nodded and closed the book. He got up to put the book away, gently running his finger along the spines of others in the area to determine where it was before Rantaro had picked it up. Finding a slot of empty space Korekiyo slid it into place. "Also, Kiyo, what are you doing here?" Rantaro asked. Korekiyo had helped Rantaro with his work, but he had no idea why he had even come to the library.
Korekiyo let out a small giggle, one of his eccentric "kehehe's" that he had never heard on anybody else before. "Ah, I actually work here but nobody was coming in so I... thought I'd talk to you." Rantaro's eyes widened, of course! Korekiyo worked at the library, that's why some days he left school a little early. So he could get there! Rantaro had never noticed, he'd always studied in the quiet of his own house. Although, quiet with 12 siblings was rare he would stay enclosed in his own room until he finished what needed to be prepared. "Also, Rantaro... closing time was an hour ago."
Rantaro's heart dropped. He had been sitting in the library with Korekiyo for so long, and he was waiting for him to leave! He didn't have to do that. "Ah, dammit sorry, Kiyo. I didn't mean to hold you up." He gathered his belongings as he mumbled out apologetically.
Korekiyo nodded silently. "It's a non-issue. You are my friend after all, so I'll see you at school. Maybe... I'll come and sit with you and your friends, instead of admiring from afar." A twinkle shone in his eyes as he stated that last part. Admiring? Rantaro shook the thoughts out of his head as he bundled home in a rush. He was a blushing, sweating mess and he had no idea why.
Slipping into bed after a shower and some dinner Rantaro only thought about the elusive Korekiyo, wondering if he was doing the same thing. Thinking about the boy from the library.
