BFA COVERS THE 67TH EMMY AWARDS

Celebrating one of the biggest pop culture events of the year, fashion and event photographer BFA takes on the 67th Emmy Awards in a big way.

A night to reward those who have excelled in American primetime Television, we got the scoop on our favorite style looks courtesy of our friends at BFA. Hosted by SNL comedian Andy Samberg, check out some of the award winners and nominees below.  

From hit drama Scandal’s lead actress Kerry Washington to Netflix originals OITNB’s Laverne Cox, our favorite TV stars were dressed to the nines last night at L.A.’s Microsoft Theatre.

During one of the most anticipated happenings of the year, the most stylish flock to the city for a week long fashion takeover, aka NYFW.

Congrats to our friends at BFA for their new site’s facelight and for capturing one of our favorite presentations from this season, alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet.

Set at the Gallery at the Skylight, guests from Kourtney Kardashian to Paris & Nicky Hilton attended to see a beautiful display of models dressed in the line’s newest collection before a beautiful desert designed backdrop.

Oh, hello! I'm Cyndi Ramirez, Founder of Taste The Style, an editorial website covering people, places and things that matter in fashion & food. I'm also the co-founder of DAILE, a youth-retaining face moisturizer currently sold at Urban Outfitters. To add to it all, I'm also a partner in Den Hospitality Group, the team behind The Garret in the West Village & dullboy in Jersey City. When I'm not working, I can be found checking out new restaurants for "research" or new fitness studios on account of my new obsession with Classpass-- or walking my pup, Rocky.

BFA COVERS MTV'S VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS 2015

A night to celebrate the best in the video music medium hosted by MTV, last night’s VMAs as promised - left us with a lot to talk about. From host Miley Cyrus’ unfiltered commentary, celebrity feuds to an emotional performance by Justin Bieber, and (who can forget Kanye’s speech), last night was a night of unadulterated fun.

Highlights include, Fetty Wap’s crowning as this generation’s Artist to Watch, honoring Kanye West’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard win to Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar’s award acceptance for Video of the Year (see ‘Bad Blood’ below). Thanks to premiere event photographer BFA, for giving us the scoop into one of the year’s most anticipated events.

GET TO KNOW COSTUME DESIGNER KAT LANGSTON ORINDGREFF

This week we sit down with ABC Family’s and industry Costume Designer Kat Langston Orindgreff and learn her cult favorites, what inspires her style, and what you can catch her in on the day to day.

Who are your style icons?

My grandmother was by far one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met. She never had a lot of money but always managed to look incredible. She taught me a lot about personal style...about how to use accessories and  the importance of closet staples. I am also always inspired by people around me. I think a personal sense of style is one of the most attractive attributes to a person.

Get the Look:

This Marc Jacob dress defines your waist and balance with an elbow length sleeve like this slip dress. Update my grandma's 40's low heel with these boho inspired Chinese Laundry heels.

My grandmother grew up in Oklahoma. This is one of the first pictures of her in the ocean in the 1940's in Santa Monica, CA. One of my favorite things about the 1940's was the way clothes hit natural lines on a woman's body. So flattering!

Get the Look:

To capture Lucy's look for present day try these items...tuck the blouse into the shorts and add a stacked heel.

Causal me in a Gap Tee and Chucks in my hubby’s 1971 VW bus.

Sneaks

For a more casual look I always turn to my red Converse Chuck Taylors. I wear these with everything!

Zine

I am a loyal subscriber to Harper's Bazaar. When i create style boards i look back through all my old Bazaar's and tear ads, editorials, and stories to give a reference to the character i am creating. There is something so timeless about this magazine and its focus on fashion.

Tee

I love the v-neck linen t-shirt from the GAP. i have this tee in every color. The tee has perfect drape and just enough sheerness. i wear these with jeans or tucked into a high waisted skirt. The shirt also looks great under a blazer.

Body

I am a redhead. I have pale skin and freckles and burn just walking into the sun. I start everyday with a sunblock base. On my face and body. I also have tattoos that I really love...sun fades the ink so I protect the artwork with sunblock as well. Check out my amazing tattoo artist Jason Schroder on instagram @incognitotattoo. My favorite sunblock is Hawaiian Tropic. It has a little shimmer that lights up my pale skin and smells amazing!

Face

For my face I can't live without Clarins Double Serum and Multi active day correction cream. It is super moisturizing but never makes me feel oily. I then use Clarins anti-pollution sunscreen to protect my skin from the sun.

A Day with my Girlfriends

Skirt:

I tend to wear lot of skirts and am really looking forward to some of the beautiful options for the Fall season. At the top of my list is this great pleated midi skirt from ZARA. Both colors are fantastic and the faux leather adds a nice contrast to the pleats.

Heels:

I spend a lot of my day on my feet so I need a shoe that had a chunkier heel. I am huge fan of all the shoes and boots that Derek Lam makes, especially the Vera bootie. It has just enough heel to make me feel feminine but also has a wedge like heel that I can stand in all day. The cutouts look great with tights or bare legs.

Scent:

For fragrance I love Jo Malone. I have 6 scents that I use throughout the year depending on my mood and the weather. Currently I am loving the Blackberry and Bay fragrance. It reminds me of camping and picking wild blackberries. Both things that I love about Summer. For Fall I’ll shift to a warmer sweeter scents like Vanilla and Anise.

VEDA X MAN REPELLER COLLABORATION LAUNCH DINNER

Thanks to BFA, we’re excited to share with you the release of one of our favorite contemporary style icons, Man Repeller’s Leandre Medine recent collaboration with Veda.

Medine teamed up with the leather jacket label to launch a line of updated classic trenches made locally in NYC. Elongating the length and adding fun pops of color blocked palettes (olive navy, khaki red, & navy black), Leandre and Veda celebrated the launch with a small fête in the

La Isla Escondida pop up backyard at the Mulberry Project.

Friends Fivestory store owner Claire Distenfeld and womenswear designer Rosie Assoulin came out to enjoy fun cocktails and eats outside at the Little Italy patio while admiring the brand’s latest collection.

TRAVELING IN STYLE WITH BLUE PERK’S FREDDY RODRIGUEZ

Freddy Rodriguez is the blogger behind the popular menswear site, Blue Perk. The Texas transplant, now European-based editor currently lives in Berlin pursuing his passion of blogging about fashion and travel while sharing his day to day experiences.

1. What is your favorite outfit/article of clothing to travel in?

There is no doubt that I have a special soft spot for fashion sweats, even more so when traveling for their lay back comfortable of practically wearing pajamas while still looking fashionable when worn properly.

2. Can you share the best piece of travel advice?

Get out of your comfort zone and meet the locals, don’t rely on tour guides and traveling in big groups. Get lost, ask the locals what they recommend and where to go.

3. What's your favorite travel memory from this Summer?

So far my favorite travel memory from this Summer is discovering the beautiful almost undiscovered gem that is Lisbon. There is so much beauty in this capital, with vibrant colors, delicious food, and such nice people. I had an amazing week slowly discovering Lisbon for myself.

4. What song can't you stop listening to?

Currently I can not stop listening to Moby’s ‘Almost Home’ and Banks ‘Warm Water.’

5. Anything else you’d share with first time travelers?

First tip to traveling, just get out there and do it! Don’t be so afraid of the unknown, you will be so surprised by how empowering it is to travel alone and how much you learn about yourself once you leave your home and learn about the world.

WILDFOX FRAGRANCE LAUNCH PARTY

Last week, the Cali based vintage-inspired womens brand Wildfox celebrated the launch of its first fragrance. A sunny bouquet of jasmine, honeysuckle and white camellia, blended with notes of incense, absinthe and musk, the Wildfox fragrance was created in partnership with Elizabeth Arden and has fast become our signature scent.

Among the event’s trendsetting attendees, the stunning actress Bella Thorne looked especially summery in a striped peach Wildfox dress repping the brand’s latest wear and fragrance. FIVESTORY NY HOSTS THE COLLECTION LAUNCH OF MADIYAH AL SHARQI

Helming from the Middle East, Madiyah Al Sharqi celebrated their collection launch and U.S. debut this past Tuesday at Upper East Side’s charming multi-brand womenswear boutique Fivestory.

From Haider Ackermann to Acne Studios, Fivestory is known for providing a thoughtful curation and bespoke taste by collecting some of the world’s most coveted, high end labels by owner and founder Claire Distenfeld. Exclusive to Fivestory’s roster of labels, Madiyah Al Sharqi’s collection launch and cocktail party was thrown by hosts Claire alongside tastemakers Indre Rockefeller, stylist Anya Ziourova and Natalya Poniatowski  

With cocktails in hand, guests from Man Repeller’s Leandre Medine to Zani Gugelmann were invited to lay eyes on an exclusive viewing of the Dubai-based custom ready to wear line for their spring 2016 collection (Gasp, a pre-NYFW reveal).

NICOLE MILLER #NMWITHDENIM CAMPAIGN LAUNCH PARTY

Last night, fashionistas and brand lovers came out to celebrate the launch of Nicole Miller’s most recent campaign, #NMWITHDENIM. The “Wear With Denim” M.O. implores women to pair new tops with old denim. Something we could definitely get behind.

MRPORTER.COM & Orlebar Brown Host Sunset Cocktails

Every man’s favorite online retailer MR PORTER threw a private soiree with London-based swimwear line Orlebar Brown this past weekend in Montauk. Made in UK and Portugal, Orlebar Brown was launched in 2007 by photographer Mr. Adam Brown and has fast become a cult brand, a go to for sophisticated, tailored swimwear.

With cocktails shoreside at one of Sean MacPHerson’s restos, The Crow’s Nest, notable guests such as photographer Bjorn Iooss, MR PORTER editor Dan Rookwood, and a slew of male models including Ryan Allen, came out to check out the beach gear, enjoy savoury eats and cocktails, while overlooking a scenic, blood orange sunset on Montauk Lake.

1. Your favorite article of clothing right now.   

Because of my busy, hectic, on-the-go lifestyle, my favorite clothing right now is definitely activewear that is versatile and style enough to wear before and after working out. I love wearing leggings that have a fun pattern or a cool top over a funky sports bra. That way if I'm running errands before yoga I don't look like a complete hobo or if I have to jam to an audition after Pilates I can throw a cool jacket and my old biker boots on and be set!

2. What can’t you stop listening to?

I can't stop listening to Rebelution. I know they've been popular for a while now but whether I'm out on the boat at the lake, lying on the beach, practicing on my mat, or even cruising down the highway.. their music always makes my soul happy and brings a smile to my face. I love it..

3. What do you find yourself dreaming a lot about?

I find myself dreaming a lot about love. In every aspect of the word.. loving myself, telling my family how much I love them, spreading love to the world, accepting love from others, doing what I love. At the end of the day love really is all that matters.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF BABY DADDY FINALE WITH COSTUME DESIGNER KATHRYN ORINDGREFF

  We’re excited to introduce ABC Family’s costume designer Kathryn Langston Orindgreff as she takes us on her style journey through last night’s season finale of Baby Daddy and what inspires her stylistically.

1. Does your personal style influence the styling decisions you make for the cast of Baby Daddy?

Yes! I love to combine patterns and unexpected colors. One of the greatest things about working on Baby Daddy is that I get to use vibrant colors.

2. Can you describe your creative process when styling?

With a rack full of clothes I start pulling different combinations together. I like to see the big picture then narrow down to specific looks. Sometimes I’ll have one piece…a necklace, shoe, or blouse that I’m really passionate about that drives the entire look. It always feels good when the entire look is cohesive and original.

3. Who are your style icons?

Riley’s First look:

Riley’s light pink eyelet dress from Charlotte Russe. I chose this dress because i wanted Riley to be in a simple but flattering silhouette for the picnic she thinks she is having with Danny. The dress was the perfect mix of sweet with the fit perfectly showing off her shoulders and collarbone. i always brighten up neutral or pale colors with jewels and shoes! and the dress is so inexpensive you can afford to spend a little more on accessories!

Riley’s Bridesmaid Look:

Riley’s bridesmaid dress by Adriana Pappel. This dress was originally a full length dress. After discussions with the producers we decided to cut it to tea length. I couldn’t be happier with how it looked. Chelsea is petite and the tea length really flattered her frame. the blue was also a big selling point for me…so rich and luscious!

Reba’s Wedding Look:

Reba’s dress at the wedding by Jean Paul Gaultier. This dress is amazing! And it looks amazing on Reba with her fiery red hair. Its made of a stretch mesh and has ruching for a super flattering fit. I’m always happy to find a garment that looks great on camera and that is super comfortable as well.
