The final art of the batch of Unicorn Overlord artworks I completed recently. The artbook released right before I began working on this, so I was able to reference Fodoquia's casual outfit instead of suffering more bizarre armor designs, although while I was gathering reference images I found the size of his wings changes dramatically from one official art to another, but I did my best.
Fodoquia's story and recruitment was the point in the Albion arc where I stopped and had to wonder, "Just what is going on in this place" because it was a completely different kind of messed up compared to the horrors going on in the other countries. Excellent character though, wish he got a rapport chain with Bertrand for the grieving father solidarity.

Actually, I almost got Umerus killed in my playthrough, but still managed to recruit her by luck (although, I probably would have restarted the battle to recruit her). I was hoping for a proper reunion scene aside from the overworld sprites, but it was still a touching moment.
Finding refs for generic character models is rough though, but I feel I did okay with Kyrus's design. For an artwork that had no background planned from the start, this ended up being needlessly complicated when it came to inkwork and lighting. Although, I feel like I've finally figured out a good way to paint metals.

More of the Unicorn Overlord arts I made recently. Absolutely loved Sanatio as a character, his story arc is so interesting to me. I loved him enough to try making art in a stained glass style again, something I said I'd never do again two years ago (it wasn't actually that hard this time around). I discovered the version of "Dona nobis pacem" by Pēteris Vasks and the Latvian Radio Choir while working on this, hence the inclusion of the phrase. I felt it fit.

Sorry for the long hiatus, again. Still been a rough year. I did play Unicorn Overlord a few months back and absolutely loved it, enough to make several fanarts for it, which I'll be posting over the next few weeks.
Loved the Albion characters a lot, but I haven't drawn bird wings in a very long time, so figuring out the angel wings was definitely a learning curve. Raenys has a fantastic design though, really love her hair style a lot, and her character was really interesting too. Still pretty amazing that she got shot in the back without any disabling injury though, trying to figure that out was...a challenge.

It's been a rough year for me so it's been uh, forever since I posted any art.
Anyhow finally got around to making some Octopath fanart since I love both the games so much but rarely make art for them. Was planning to do a series of "additional crossed paths I would have liked to see" but after I finished this I realized I just wanted to draw Ochette and Temenos, because their shared connection to the Dark Entity is SO interesting to me, wish we could have seen more stuff about that in the game proper. Might actually finish the other three arts I had planned for the project, but depends on how my creative energy pans out I guess.
Not sure how I feel about the colors/lighting, but considering how long my break from art was between drawing Ikona and this, I don't think this is too bad.

I said I had an art idea for just Ikona, and somehow I managed to actually see that through...even if this took two months to complete (rip, my life has been busy lately).
So yeah! An official art of my design for Ikona. And, I have a handful of assorted headcanons for her as well:
I think she was a kinshi knight, because every one of the Hoshido siblings has access to kinshi knight as a class; also Hinoka's Legendary Hero alt. in FEH has Queen Hinoka as a kinshi knight, with an updated design that mixes the design of the kinshi knight (definitely not Sumeragi's) class and priestess (Mikoto's) class. For Ikona's kinshi knight design I merged the design for kinshi knight with archer/sniper, as I also headcanon that she originally wielded the Fujin Yumi (I know the lore states that the Fujin Yumi was passed down through the royal family, but given that it's a choosy weapon, it might have "chosen" Ikona after she married Sumeragi, or else she may have come from some far-flung branch family).
Ikona was the first person, probably, to show Ryouma, Hinoka, and Takumi the basics of archery, although Takumi took to it more readily. She would have continued to mentor Takumi as he grew older if she had survived long enough to do so.
Ikona shares her hair and eye color with Takumi, and Takumi was the only one to inherit these features (as Ryouma takes strongly after Sumeragi, and Hinoka and Sakura both inherited hair/eye color traits that both Sumeragi and Ikona had, but where recessive; I know hair/eye colors aren't Mendelian per se, but I promise this made some sort of sense when I was trying to map out how everyone's genetic traits might have been inherited). However, Hinoka and Sakura share Ikona's rounder face and eye shape; Ikona was also a bit shorter than Hinoka and a bit taller than Sakura. Takumi and Sakura also share Ikona's straight, silky hair, whereas Ryouma and Hinoka inherited Sumeragi's wild and unruly flyaway hair.
I think in terms of personality, that Takumi and Sakura's anxiety troubles probably came from Ikona (as did Hinoka's shyness as a child). As a notable noble, and later queen, Ikona would have found a way to mask her social anxiety, but it doesn't change the fact that she was much more comfortable around her close friends and family. Ikona probably came off as somewhat awkward or aloof at times as a result though, despite all her etiquette training and careful masking. If she had lived long enough, Ikona might have been able to pass down some techniques to Takumi and Sakura for handling their anxiety.
Ikona could have shared Hinoka's inclinations towards being a warrior, although Ikona would have had the etiquette training to balance this out and mask the fact that she was more comfortable in armor than silks. Ikona's desire to protect others probably led to her untimely death as well (I don't have a solid set of headcanons for this, although I think she probably died before Sumeragi did; stat-wise I think she would have had a glass canon build, with strong offensive capabilities, both physical and magical, and weak defenses--if she was a "dive in to save people" type, her weak defenses would have been Ikona's undoing).
I also think it's possible that either Reina or Yukimura were, at one point, one of Ikona's retainers. I know from a developmental standpoint that Orochi and Reina were originally one character (at least I seem to remember reading that somewhere), and therefore Mikoto would have had Yukimura and Orochi-Reina as her two retainers, rather than having three retainers. And I know Yukimura serves more as Hoshido's tactician rather than a retainer...but I figure if we have the characters to go around, that one of them could have served as one of Ikona's retainers, but survived her death (and made sure the Fujin Yumi returned to the royal family), and that her other retainer died with her.
Ikona fell in love with Mikoto first. I'm not entirely sure how their entire thruple thing worked out eventually, but I feel like Ikona was the first to fall in love. She would have been so awkward about it too.
Not a headcanon, but as an aside I originally planned to have her outfit's color palette feature more oranges, the way her yukata was orange in the first artwork I made of her, but uh...she ended up looking like an orange creamsicle. Using the strong reds that appear in most of the Hoshidan character designs made her look a bit like Inuyasha though, so I eventually settled on more muted pinkish colors. I might change the palette later if I can make the oranges or reds work, but overall I think I like how off this palette feels when compared to most of the Hoshidan palettes. It feels like Ikona was sort of a last-minute thought to the writers, which makes her feel forgotten in the story itself. Ikona having an unusual color palette reflects the fact that she ended up not really getting to be a part of her own family in life or death, and in time became something of an aside even to her own people.
So...yeah! As I've said before, I have a lot of thoughts about fictional dead moms who get shafted by the writers of the stories they're supposed to be a part of. Ikona is no exception, and I really enjoyed coming up with a design for her and trying to weave headcanons to flesh her character out a bit. I've been thinking about her since Fates released, and I'm sure I'll be thinking about her for years to come.

Hello all! First off, thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support on my FE Rarepair artworks--I've been very busy the past two months and haven't been on recently, so I hadn't realized how kind the response was to some of the arts. It warms my heart to see after my short hiatus!
And it also brings me to my next point. In light of of Automattic's upcoming contract with OpenAI, which will allow Midjourney to scrape content on Tumblr for AI training, I'd like to bring attention to a new addition in the Settings Menu.
Where do you find this? Click on Settings, scroll down until you find the Blogs list in the sidebar, and select a blog, then scroll down and you should see this feature. Turning it on will allow you to opt-out of having your blog's data scraped for AI training.
Please keep in mind if you have any side-blogs, you have to go through Settings > Blogs > select the side-blog and do the same thing.
See how @plaguelily-comics is my side-blog, and I still had to go through and turn this feature on separately? It's a bit of a pain, but I figured I'd draw attention to it just so people know what's up.
"So wait, you're not gonna stop posting art on this website?"
Not for now, no. My main art hosting site is still deviantArt which went through a similar fiasco, and dA implemented a similar feature to protect art. What was nice about dA was that their "noAI" feature was turned on automatically, and artists posting art had to opt-IN to allowing their art to be used in AI training, rather than the other way around. Considering that Tumblr is not a site dedicated to art, I'm not entirely surprised that they make you opt-out rather than opt-in, but it's still an icky move on this site's part.
I'm also fully aware that these "noAI" features don't protect artwork or text from manually being added into an AI program. For my part, the threat of digital art theft has always been a reality going waaay back to when I was posting art in high school on my older dA account, well before the threats of procedural image generation. I've always had my own methods to try and combat this, such as use of custom watermarks, although I'm fully aware that this would and will never 100% guarantee the safety of my art against old-school art thieves, nor will it do much against machine-learning algorithms.
So why keep posting art online? Well the truth is, I have no issues with just vanishing from online spaces (i.e. I took a several year hiatus back when I was in college). For me, the act of making art is more important than actually sharing it, despite the fact that I do enjoy seeing the comments on my art. But, keeping an online presence will be helpful if I ever decide to offer commission work. And, more importantly, I think there's still value and joy in sharing artwork...
So, for now, I'm going to stay. I might change my mind later on, if the energy and effort of sharing art starts to feel like more of a burden than a joy. But I'm nothing if not stubborn, and I don't think there's any merit to panicking and removing all my art. After all, if all the human artists were to up and leave, then people wouldn't have the option to actively combat AI art by choosing to support human artists instead.
#plaguelily chatters#I've already seen a few posts circulating about the new features in the settings#but I figure the more posts there are with the information about how to find the feature the better

Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 7, which was a free day, and so I went for a "Rest after Celebrations" theme. I will continue to make artwork for this ship even if my art is the only art filling the tag, I just love these two so much and I need everyone to know how much I love them. It feels fitting to end this project with this rarepair, since I was working on another artwork for these two at the end of last year. It's been a rough year for me, but this entire project brought me a lot of confidence and comfort. Although, honestly I could use a break myself.

Seadall: So please, do not hesitate. Ask as many questions as you like. Ask me about the strange and wonderful foods I tasted for the first time at the border village. Or about the morning sun I watched set the sky on fire as it rose over the desert oasis. There are so many questions I hope you ask. And so many stories I hope to tell you. Alcryst: Your tales mesmerize me, Seadall. I can’t wait to get lost in them again. Please, tell me a new one─and another after that! Tell me stories until the break of dawn.
(FE Engage, Alcryst and Seadall A Supports)
Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 5, and I went with "Memories". Oh dear, I barely finished this in time. Actually, I've had the idea for this artwork ever since I played Engage and got Alcryst and Seadall's supports, so when I saw the prompts for Day 5 I knew I had to try and draw this if I could. Well, I'm sure I'd have drawn it eventually anyhow, I was very taken with how sweet their supports were. (Also, fun fact! Argyll patterned socks became popular in the 1920s, and given how 20s-inspired a lot of Brodian fashion seems to be--i.e. Citrinne's flapper look--I was very pleased to have an excuse to give Alcryst some Argyll socks...although mostly that's because the idea of shoes on furniture is like nails on a chalkboard to me. In any case, I hope to get a lot more fanart for Engage out now that I'm more comfortable with translating the highly saturated color palettes to fit my style, and I can't wait to draw more fantasy-20s clothing).

Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 4, and I went with "Clothes".
Okay, this one probably needs some explaining too. So, this is Sumeragi, Mikoto, and my design for Ikona, and I absolutely headcanon them as a all being in love with each other, and I have for years. This goes way back to when Fates was still popular, and I kept seeing a lot of headcanons portraying Ikona as jealous of Mikoto and/or with the two generally not getting along, and like, that's valid and all, but it really didn't work for me. And so one rainy morning walking to a college class I wondered, "What if Ikona and Mikoto were in love?" which was quickly followed by, "What if all three were in love?" Which then made all their deaths in Fates all the more tragic for me, and so I've stuck with it ever since. So while I know this is technically a canon ship, since my headcanons go against a lot of popular fanon, and these three as a canon thruple get entirely ignored by both fans and IntSys, I still feel justified in calling this ship a rarepair.
I, unsurprisingly given my love for wildly underdeveloped dead moms, have a ton of thoughts about Ikona, and I also spent a really long time trying to figure out her appearance based on how the Hoshido siblings look, which I might share later (I have an idea for an artwork for just Ikona, and that would be a better place to write out my headcanons for her). But to explain a little, I do have Ikona sharing her hair and eye color with Takumi--I think there's something rather bittersweet about Takumi being the only one to look a lot like his biological mother.
As fond of this ship as I am, I am never drawing Sumeragi and his Sonic Hedgehog hair again if I can avoid it.

Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 3, and I went with "Dreams". Okay, hear me out, I swear I can explain. So both Hubert and Ignatz wish they could fly on a pegasus, and Hubert compliments Ignatz's strategy in Ch6 of Scarlet Blaze in Three Hopes, and that got me wondering why they never got a support chain, which then led to me trying to figure out what that support chain would even look like, and then one thing led to the next and here we are. This is absolutely a crackship, and whether it turns into a ship I'm actually serious about remains to be seen. But hey, it wouldn't be a rarepair project for me if I didn't draw at least one batshit insane crackship that makes sense to me and no one else. Everyone should have a little chaos, as enrichment.

Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 2, and I went with "Jewelry".
Considering this ship started off as a sort of bittersweet and contrarian crackship, I've actually become extremely fond of Faye and Rinea as a pairing and this is now one of my favorite FE ships. I've seen some other artists and writers make art/writing for this ship too, which has been really fun to see! As my original FE rarepair, these two had to show up at least once. (I'm trying to do a different ship every day, although I wasn't able to complete all 7 artworks...)

Before the heavy rains take their toll, young women hurry to pick the last of the white roses. The ivory buds are woven into garlands and given as gifts to close friends or potential lovers.
(FE Three Houses, Chapter 2: Familiar Scenery, opening quote)
Artwork completed for @ferarepairweek. This was for Day 1, and I went with "Celebration".
For some reason I had it in my head that the garland-weaving was part of festivities for Garland Moon, but apparently the quote from above is actually for Harpstring Moon, and there wasn't an entire celebration associated with it but eh, a celebration is a celebration (also ignore the fact that I did not draw garlands in favor of flower crowns and necklaces). Anywho, this is actually my favorite pairing for Byleth (F!Byleth specifically, but I won't get into my headcaons about the two Byleths), which figures given that the Gatekeeper isn't one of the S-rank options...and doesn't even have any supports in Three Hopes, haha.
I've been experimenting with a new process of sketching, coloring, and shading, and trying to complete all the artworks for this fandom event really helped me test it out. I have to say, cell-shading is so much easier on my wrists (I had a minor wrist injury earlier this year, making art very difficult for a few months). I'll probably be doing a lot of cell-shading from here on out.

Hey all!
As a little project and challenge to myself, I've made artwork for @ferarepairweek this year (although I was only able to complete 6 artworks), which I've queued for next week. If you don't want to see artwork for this event, please blacklist "fe rarepair week" as that is the tag I'll be using for all the artworks.
I'm still working on my projects on the side, but this is why I haven't been posting arts lately (it takes me a hundred million years to complete a single art, rip).
Also, happy holidays for all those who celebrate, and happy new year!

So uh, fun fact I've had this finished for well over a month now and just kept forgetting to share it...
Anyhow! I finally got a design for Ganondorf figure out for my Sky Pirates story...maybe. I redesigned Nabooru in the process of designing Ganondorf, so I'm very sure I'll probably redesign him several more times before I make any meaningful progress on like, comic pages (and I still need to finish writing the story, rip, I swear this project will become a thing eventually). Three designs because parts of Ganondorf's story arc take place about 20 years in his past, so we have from left to right, his design for ages 22, 24ish, and 42.

And a little concept page for Link, whose design I am...still struggling with a bit (it's not as intuitive to draw). The "armor" design is actually just the light armor for all the Hylian guards, and I think Link wears it for exactly one chapter but I figured I'd toss together a ref anyhow. Still tweaking color palettes though because my art looks so different depending on which monitor I'm viewing it on...

Still trying to get back into the swing of art, decided to finally sit down and draw myself some references for my variation of Zelda in the Sky Pirates story. I redesigned her armor...again (I think I'm up to three redesigns now?), although I'm probably happiest with this set of color palettes (special thanks to @kelseymichikoart for helping with the palettes). If nothing else, I'm glad that her core design, especially the face and hair, is easy enough to draw that I don't feel like I'm fighting it every time I draw her.
The project itself has been at a bit of a standstill because I ran into a block midway through the outline, but after playing TotK and thinking about the lore updates I need to change in the story, I went over some of the details and I think with a few key changes I can get both the story to flow more smoothly and find a way past the block so I can finish the outline and start on the script. Haven't made much progress this year because life things keep happening, but I'm not giving up.
