This is for the "Caitlyn has no reason to be traumatised" crowd. Ok, things in the end didn't go this way, but still... she spent almost 24 hours in Jinx's hands. We have no idea of what exactly happened in that time between the two of them. What we do know, though, is that Caitlyn was absolutely terrified.
I love Jinx, I truly do. But this isn't something anyone would be able to get over with.
Also, let me tell you something, since you don't seem to get it: trauma isn't objective. Response to trauma isn't objective. People might be forever traumatised by something others would forget rather soon. So even if this was the "only" thing that had happened to Caitlyn, you have no right to say that others had it worse.

People want vi to be upset with caitlyn because she used the grey to target the chem barrons in zaun, but vi was right there with her.
Like vi was never an advocate for zaun, just like jinx was never and advocate for zaun. The only reason jinx breaks everyone out of prison is because of isha. These two sisters are so alike they don't even know it. They will follow the ones that they love, they are not here to be the world changing types.(this is also why powder in the alternate universe is stagnant. So to speak.)
Ekko and Sevika are the ones actively seeking zaun out to be a better place. Being advocates for the people of zaun. Ekko and sevika are opposite sides of the same coin just as jinx and vi are.

For everyone celebrating that Los Angeles is burning because your least favorite celebrity or politician lives here and you think it makes you look more conservative or liberal : I hope you never have an insurance company decide to pull the rug and suddenly you have nothing overnight, I hope you never have to wonder where to go home to, or if your loved ones are safe, I hope you never have to watch a pet run panicked into the fire and burn alive, and I hope you eat fucking shit

Omg that's true!!
I'm so tired of these people saying Vi and Caitlyn's relationship is toxic, I mean literally the same thing she said Jinx and her relationship with Ekko wasn't good either and Jayce and Viktor too.
It is natural for problems and disagreements to occur in relationships, but it is not natural to think that a relationship will be peaceful and good all the time. These things only exist in Disney movies.
But apart from all that. Seriously guys hating on Vi or Caitlyn or both is way over the top. Like let's just imagine JUST IMAGINE, if Vi were male, the narrative surrounding her actions and character would change dramatically. She would likely be hailed as a "brother hero," a model of loyalty and kindness despite impossible circumstances. Her trauma, in prison, losing Vander, failing to save Jinx, and so on, would be sympathized with as a testament to her strength and determination.
Her status as the ā€œbad sisterā€ is undoubtedly tied to gender expectations. Women, especially older sisters, are often burdened with the role of caregiver, and are expected to be endlessly compassionate and self-sacrificing. Vi’s moments of anger, guilt, and mistakes, however, conflict with societal stereotypes of women as the natural ā€œfixersā€ of emotional and familial conflicts. The fact that Vi is pigeonholed as the ā€œbad sisterā€ while Jinx is often seen as the tragic victim reflects deeper gender biases. Vi’s traumas and emotional wounds are ignored or minimized because she is expected to be the ā€œstrong one,ā€ while Jinx is given sympathy and a more nuanced lens because her messiness and vulnerability fit into certain stereotypes of women who are broken or in need of saving.
It’s a frustrating double standard, and it underscores just how progressive Arcane is by refusing to fully give into those tropes. Vi’s character still shines as someone strong, flawed, and deeply human, but the criticisms she faces highlight how society treats female characters with such biases.
The misogyny is REAL and don’t think for a second that other women aren’t fully participating in that also. The amount of shit Vi gets for temporarily joining the Enforcers with Caitlyn to stop Jinx is insane. A male Vi would have been seen as a TORTURED HERO for joining up with the EVIL FORCES that took his parents away all so he could do HERO THINGS. But Vi does it? ā€œWah wah she joined the COPS she’s A TRAITOR THE REAL VI WOULD NEVERā€. Like. Watch the show, my friends, and you will see she did what she thought was best and it was a very complex and very emotional decision for her; she hated every second of that uniform. But no, people shit on Vi and then complain like any of them could write a better show. Ugh.
And nobody would have hated a male Vi for having his love scene. Nobody. In fact, it would have been EXPECTED, but because Vi’s a woman, and a lesbian expressing her big gay love for her gorgeous gay lover, some people refuse to see her humanity and her growth as a person in that moment. I'm so tired
And the argument that we hate them because they did bad things is not true, I have seen people hate Caitlyn just because she is lesbian and one of them said if she was a straight woman I would have accepted her character on the show. Seriously this is someone who takes his criticism seriously, he forgot the story and everything in the show and focused on whether the characters are gay or straight or worse when I saw a comment from someone saying why are the main characters on the show female characters? Like is this an idiot or is he drug or what exactly? I think we should also ask, why do men always take the lead roles and when they are evil they are better, and if they are good they are also better, but if a woman comes along who is evil or wants to be evil or does just one mistake everyone hates her and she is the worst person in the world, but men are the only ones who deserve to play the role of evil and do bad things and we will sympathize with them and love them. THIS IS CRAZY!!
To understand what I'm saying more, compare Viktor's character and Caitlyn's character and you will see that Caitlyn was the character who was criticized the most even though she didn't kill anyone innocent and in the end she tried to fix things, while Viktor tried to kill all the people of Piltover and Zaun and didn't care about anyone, even his friend's pleas, he didn't care about them and Viktor thought that this was the solution but to end the conflicts between the two cities. But is there anyone who criticizes this, is there anyone who says that this is a bad act, of course not, yes you will see some people justifying it, as they did with Silco, the person who killed an entire family for control and drowned all of Zaun with shimmer and made the children work in dangerous factories, and there is not a single criticism, and people defend him even after Jinx's condition worsened, no they say that he is better than Caitlyn, my god like what the fuck!?
Then they tell you we don't hate women we don't hate gays or lesbians, just shut the fuck up, everything is clear, Arcane revealed to us that there are still people who are fanatic and traditional to the extreme who still want to see a man as the hero of the story and that all people and women should respect him even if he is evil and cruel he is always better than this bullshit, Arcane proved to us that it is possible for both sexes to appear in an excellent, strong and realistic way without insulting or belittling the other because these things are not useful and will not help in telling the story in any way.
Quick note I don't hate Jinx or Viktor and many of you who follow me know that I love Viktor very much but I will not deny the bad things he did and I am also really tired of the hypocrisy of some people and their constant criticism of other characters and characters. Just bc they say like these characters
Like I don't like Silco but have you ever seen me post every day criticizing Silco and Silco fans all the time or go to Silco fans and tell them if you like Silco then you support child labor and the drug trade and blah blah. Like they do with Caitlyn fans when one of them says he likes Caitlyn they accuse him of supporting collective punishment and corrupt governments and police brutality just because he likes a fictional character. I've never seen such stupidity and backwardness and bullshit in my life, just because I like a fictional character you think I will act like her in real life?? These people need to grow up seriously or find a job

quick rant about the caitvi sesbian lex scene cause whatttt (amazing perfection art btw) but DO but do people not understand subtext? Expositional dialogue? Emotional vulnerability??? Like oh my word the Vi slander is annoying like generally speaking I’ve heard people literally say it’s out of character for Vi to not give a shit about jinx, miss the suicidal tendencies etc but like imagine being in Vi’s shoes. Here you are, expecting to be reprimanded by your then ex gf because once again here you are giving people you care about the benefit of doubt, because you love them that much, because you are a selfless individual that always put the needs of others above your own. You expect to be condemned for choosing wrong. (Rightfully so) But then the tables turn Caitlyn basically admits she planned the whole ordeal, knew Vi would free jinx so ultimately when we read between the lines it’s her saying she chooses Vi above anything else is willing to let go of whatever personal grudges she had in the past towards jinx/any unresolved feelings/hatred for her sister because she loves Vi that much. It’s such a heartfelt moment, Vi realising this hence the whole being-lost-in-the-moment thing god forbid Vi allows herself to be emotionally vulnerable for once to give into her NEEDS I love that scene so MUCH because it’s the first time caitvi get to be ā€œselfishā€, instead of focusing on fighting losing battles but yeah lets say vi is a heartless pos for fucking cait in a cell ig lmao

At this point I am convinced some people are watching this show solely via the subtitle files, because that's the only thing that explains drastically misunderstanding everything that's not spelled out in dialogue to this extent.
Honestly some of the most embarrassing mass failure of media literacy I've ever seen. It's not even complicated stuff, it's basic text comprehension and story fluency.
- No, Caitlyn's "I know!" is not anger at being called out; she's saying she is very, very painfully aware of what she's done wrong. Watch it again.
- No she didn't take the guards away or go to the cell to have sex with Vi. TF?!?
It was Vi who initiated; Caitlyn was surprised she did.
She pulled the guards away to help Vi if/when she chose to do what she knows her well enough to know she probably would. Vi makes her choice - Caitlyn doesn't "let" her, she just supports it, because it's Vi's choice to make.
Vi has no idea she's done this until after, it doesn't affect her "agency" at all. That's not what any of those words mean!
- She did this as a direct acknowledgement of and response to Vi's previous criticisms.
You are supposed to be able to make the very, very minimal leap of imagination required to understand what the show is telling you here; that she is genuinely sorry, genuinely committed to getting her shit together, and that she has heard and received every word that Vi has told her.
The reason this gesture is so important is that it demonstrates she's now going out on a limb to put herself, her resources, and her privilege to work for the greater good.
And the reason Vi reacts the way she does is that she understands all of this immediately.
You should not need the show to sit you down and spell this out to you step by step Barney the Dinosaur style.
- She works very hard and sacrifices quite a lot to try to do right by people after fucking up so badly before, but not before very explicitly acknowledging that she can't undo the harm she's already done. And this isn't even an inference thing, she actually even says this bit out loud twice, and you still somehow missed it.
- For $5, what do you think the show was suggesting by having Sevika take up her seat, her final costume have no Enforcer uniform elements, and having her allude to an ongoing struggle. Come on, guess.
I am loathe to call people stupid just because some tv show stuff sailed over their heads, but... y'all are legitimately testing that. This is not exactly The Holy Mountain or something, it is very straightforward storytelling.
And just... I mean why would you be this loud about anything without making sure you didn't have it ass backways first?!? In public!?!? šŸ’€
You guys, you have to watch shows to know what is happening in them.

"Her mother was just the final nail in the coffin. She tried so hard to do things right, and all she got in return was pain and heartbreak"
Literally!! I can't believe people are saying Caitlyn is overreacting, her mom is dead you idiot!! What do you mean she's overreacting!? You people have never seen a character go through such stages of grief, despair, and devastation. Caitlyn has been through the worst experiences of her life because of Jinx's attempted murder, kidnapping, torture, and now the death of her mother. I mean, Caitlyn's personality change and her intense hatred for Jinx and loss herself are completely understandable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look how scared she is, we don't know what hell Caitlyn went through when Jinx kidnapped her, but that expression on her face says it all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let's not forget that Caitlyn in episode 1 refused the order to invade Zaun. Even after her mother's death she still didn't want to use violence, and we later saw that she would go there for only three goals.
Tumblr media
And indeed she did, she attacked those gangs present in Zaun "Gangs that were hurting people and children in Zaun".
Tumblr media
(And of course we shouldn't forget that she didn't suddenly change her mind, but rather because of the attack caused by Ambessa that made her reach this level of anger)
And now Ambessa will definitely play an important role in Caitlyn's character change by inciting her to seek revenge.
Ambessa manipulates everything and puts someone in power she can easily control
Tumblr media
Another thing I found weird is how some people think in this ridiculous way to say that Caitlyn wants to kill the child or that Caitlyn wants to kill Vi. Are you really serious? Literally, you have never seen in any show or movie a character who is angry and loses control after that, don't you know when a person is angry they don't see it in front of them especially since she didn't want to make Jinx run away again, this was her chance to take revenge on the person who ruined her life completely (Caitlyn's actions are logical and her anger and sadness did not come from nothing or came from her mother's death only, but came from other things that were piling up on Cait which led to her explosion)
And as I was saying Caitlyn just wanted to kill Jinx, anger and sadness at that moment took over her. Jinx had NO mercy with Caitlyn, there is nothing that softens her actions.
And I hope you guys remember the true core of Caitlyn, she was trying to do what is good and she gets bombed, kidnapped, and her mom dead now.

There is valid criticism for Cait and her arc but most of y’all are just misogynists who can’t handle a complex female character. And the proof is the way almost all of y’all dick ride Viktor and rarely ever talk about how he’s literally practicing eugenics by ā€œfixing peopleā€ and taking away their disabilities and other ā€œimperfectionsā€ that he doesn’t like.
Plus the fact that Viktor literally tries taking the free will of EVERYONE and reducing them to a zombie mind hive mind. But Cait is the irredeemable one.

So, I got hyperfixated on Arcane (on Vi, mostly) and I have been writing some thoughts down on her different stages on season 2. This is a surface level break down on aspects of her character that I spent too much time thinking about. I'm pretty sure other people have already said the same things I have on here but regardless I still want to share. Also this is an extremely long post, sorry.
TW: I talk about passive suicidal ideation on here, if this is something that triggers you, please don't read. I will be adding a divider for when that part comes up.
Enforcer Vi:
Vi becoming an enforcer definitely came from her guilt over what happened to Cait's mom. Due to Vi's sense of responsibility, I think that she felt like she owed it to Cait to do this, even if she personally didn't like it. I don't think that Vi agreed with what they were doing down there (like releasing the Gray). I think she felt like this was the only way to make things right and to start making up for what had happened.
I don't think she was ever going to kill Jinx. I also don't think she would've allowed Cait to do it either, no matter how hard she tried to convince herself that her sister was gone; that there were no traces of Powder anymore and that she needed to do this to protect the version of her sister that she remembered and held so dearly. Even if Isha hadn't been there, I genuinely don't think that Vi would've gone through with it.
Her sister has been her reason to fight, to be brave and courageous; her reason to dare to hope for a future in which Zaun is actually better. She wouldn't have let any more harm come to her, not more than what she already thinks she has done. But because her sister was responsible for what happened to Cait's mom, and Vi feels like she's responsible for what happened to Jinx, she feels like that also means that she is responsible for the attack.
If she continues on being an enforcer, I think it has less to do with her changing her mind about what they represent and more so about her being lost (since she thinks her sister is dead). She's looking for a purpose, something to fight for. And while she is content with Cait and she will fight for her (like she does for everyone she loves) I think that she lost her main reason to fight, and while she will continue to fight, her heart will no longer fully be in it.
Pit-Fighter Vi:
As for pit fighter Vi, we know she did so to punish herself for everything. Vi is a fighter but she's led by her heart and her emotions. This means that after everything that happened with Cait, it snapped something in her. All those years in Stillwater, while torturous, she remained determined to persevere in the hopes of reuniting with her sister one day. Once out, her sole focus was making that reunion with her sister happen (we all saw how that went). Everything that led up to that moment with Cait, was building up inside.
I think that Vi is a character who, while openly emotional and loving, buries her feelings deep down inside. While she's vulnerable, she's not fully open about her past or her trauma. Choosing instead to prioritize those who she cares about who she deems are in more need than her.
I think this is a consequence of her being a parentified child. She was forced to take care of her sister at a very young age. She was never fully able to process the loss of her parents because she had Powder to look out and care for. Powder who needed love, nurturing, and attention. She was more important to Vi than herself. So, she buried her grief deep inside. One could also argue that her grief took the shape of anger, aggression, and impulsivity but that's a conversation for some other time.
What happens to Powder later on is also a source of pain for Vi. She feels like she's the reason that Silco was able to get his hands on Powder and therefore she's responsible for how Powder turned out. She's the reason Powder had those vulnerabilities, those abandonment issues, that desire to be loved and appreciated. This was yet another heartache she had to bury in order to do what she thought needed to be done (aka become an enforcer).
She, however, couldn't go through with it so she stopped Cait from killing Jinx. This was a betrayal in Cait's eyes. I feel like in this moment Vi felt like she failed yet another person who she cared about while at the same time failing herself and her beliefs and values. She gassed her city, fought her sister, almost got a child killed in the cross fire, became the very thing she hated, she's choosing wrong. She's losing everything and everyone she loves.
Every painful memory comes back to her with just as much force as Cait's rifle to her side. All these emotions are overwhelming and loud; so she does the one thing that always calmed the noise. She fights. She gets beat up and she beats others up.
She feels useless, empty but at least she's doing something. She drowns in alcohol to attempt to grasp even a drop of happiness that she hasn't truly felt in years. Maybe its an attempt to numb all the overwhelming feelings that seem to be pulling her under.
When she loses a fight she can't help but feel a bit glad, she's getting what she thinks she deserves after all. And who cares if she's so drunk she can't tell what's real anymore? At least she's not thinking about all the ways she has fucked up.
Commune Vi:
When Jinx tells her that Vander is alive, she doesn't believe it. However, she goes along with the ride because there's really nothing to lose anymore. Seeing her sister interact with Isha, brings back memories of a younger version of herself and Powder. Seeing those interactions also allows for Vi to humanize her sister, to realize that her sister was still in there, still capable of care and compassion.
This also helps her realize that Jinx no longer needs protection or to be sheltered from the harsh reality (she has already lived the full experience of shitty). This is the moment that allows her to view Jinx as an equal. Once they get to Viktor's Commune, she asks for Jinx' opinions. She asks about her thoughts and what she wants to do. She speaks to her as a team and not a liability.
She even lets Jinx in on the plan that she made with Cait in order to free Vander. Mind you, she doesn't tell Cait about Jinx. This to me shows that Vi trusts Jinx enough to not make the same mistake and to instead trust that her sister has her back and is capable of making the correct choices when given the opportunity to do so.
Getting Vander back and starting to reconcile with Jinx, starts giving Vi a sense of purpose. She, once again, has people to fight for. She has something to look forward to (a family). This provides some hope for the future.
Tumblr media
Passive suicidal ideation:
Passive suicidal ideation is defined as "feelings and thoughts about wanting to die, though without actual planning".
In this section I will be focusing on 6 of the symptoms in regards to Vi: risky behavior, heightened agitation, increased withdraw and isolation, uncontrollable drug or alcohol habits, preoccupation with death or violence, and intolerable emotional pain (particularly intense shame and guilt).
Let's start with the first point: risky behavior. While Vi was in Stillwater she would partake in a lot of risky behaviors that would end up with her getting punished. These risky behaviors were along the lines of starting fights with men who were older, stronger, and bigger than her. Other risky behaviors were: having weapons in her cell and attempting to escape. All these behaviors led to her getting beat with socks filled with nails, spiked brass knuckles, and even blades. The reason for this behavior? Finding out if her sister was still alive and if Silco had her.
As for the risky behaviors we see displayed in her time as pitfighter, well aside from the obvious, there's her overuse of alcohol. She gets so drunk that she passes out at the bottom of the stairs, leaving herself vulnerable for any eventuality. Not to mention that her getting beat up continuously means that she probably gets severe injuries that she doesn't treat correctly or at all (possibly leading to infections and further damage to her body).
Now that we have that covered, let's move on to the next point: heightened agitation. We see many examples through both seasons that demonstrate this kind of behavior. Her agitation toward Ekko and Sevika when they mention how much Powder has changed. Her jumping into a fight with Sevika and almost dying both times. Her choking Jinx after being told that Vander is still alive. Her starting an argument and tempting Jinx into a fight when they are in the mines. These are just a few examples at the top of my head. These show how agitated and upset she gets when situations shift suddenly.
This of course could be a trauma response to what she experienced at Stillwater. This could be due to her lacking the ability to really regulate her emotions since a majority of her time was spent in survival mode. But this behavior does lead her to the risky behaviors that we discussed on the bullet points before.
Increased withdraw and isolation: while she was a pitfighter she didn't have anyone, truly. Her sister was gone, off to God knows where. Cait had left her in the ventilation system alone and crying on the floor. What was she supposed to do now that she had betrayed her sister, her lover, and most importantly herself?? Easy, drink and fight. I already discussed both these points so I'll focus on the one person she did have, Loris.
Through her self destructive time as an underground fighter, Vi had one constant and that was Loris. Loris stuck by Vi like a loyal friend. He watched her back, watched her fights, and joined in on the drinking and partying. Right up until things got out of hand. Vi wasn't a fun drunk and more of an irritable one. We see one of the times of Loris taking her back to her apartment; we see how she pushes him away roughly and how she starts yelling at him. We don't know what she says to him but due to the fact that we don't see them interact again until the war, one can assume that what she said wasn't kind leading him to leave her alone (just how she wanted).
Her wanting to be alone and wallow on her guilt and shame is also a reason as to why she reacted so aggressively when Jinx appeared at her place.
This is also demonstrated when they are walking through the mines and Vi essentially starts an argument by saying "when are you going to admit that this is just another one of your delusions?". This leads to a physical altercation that ends with Isha getting hurt in the process. Isha getting hurt is what brings Vi back to the present moment, allowing them to continue forth with the journey.
I also think that seeing Isha getting hurt, brought back memories for Vi. Memories of her and Powder when they were younger, the good and the bad. The bad being the last time she saw her sister before being taken away to Stillwater. This brings back intense feelings of guilt and shame, which might be part of the reason that she says "why did you even come get me? you don't need my help, you haven't for a while."
Seeing Jinx now, and how capable she is, solidifies for Vi that she's no longer needed. She no longer needs to protect or shelter her sister from the monsters all around them. Her one reason to continue fighting, no longer needed her. This reaffirms that she has no purpose.
Now let's circle back to intense feelings of shame or guilt like I mentioned on the bulletpoint before, Vi accidentally hitting Isha and the follow up interaction between her and Jinx, probably brought the memory of her last interaction with Powder.
As we all know, her last interaction with Powder was after Vander died. In a moment of immense grief and anger, Vi slapped Powder and called her a jinx. Once she realized what she had done, she stared at her hand in horror and proceeded to walk away to presumably collect herself and calm down before facing her sister once more. However, before she could return to her sister (after spotting Silco coming toward her) she was taken to Stillwater.
Vi clearly regrets having done what she did. She has an intense desire to make up for it once she reunites with Jinx but they never really get the chance to actually talk. Would talking take away all the pain and all the damage? Would it make Jinx return back to who she used to be? No, of course not. But that didn't mean that Vi wasn't willing to still attempt to make up for it.
I think that seeing how Jinx went to Isha and provided comfort made her wish she would've done the same during that time. I think she wishes that instead of walking away, she would've stayed, apologized and figured where to go from there.
I think that when it comes to her sister, Vi will never fully let go of the guilt she feels over what happened. Especially now that she thinks Jinx is dead.
I will even go as far as to say that she never truly blamed Powder for the deaths of their family. I think she lashed out at her out of intense shame and guilt over dragging everyone to this point. By that I mean, that from Vi's perspective she has internalized everything that happened. If she hadn't tried to give herself up, Vander wouldn't have gone after her which would in turn mean that Silco wouldn't have taken him. This would've meant that she wouldn't have had to go find him, wouldn't have allowed Mylo or Claggor to go with her and wouldn't have left Powder alone because there would've been no reason to leave, no danger. This is, of course, misguided. Whose to say these things wouldn't have happened regardless? No one can truly know, but I think this is Vi's way of viewing the events that lead to her family dying.
Lastly preoccupation with death or violence. Vi is someone who is constantly preoccupied with death and someone who was raised around it as well as around violence. However, this isn't in regards to herself. Her preoccupation is in regards to her loved ones dying or getting hurt.
A majority of the times that we see Vi in a fight, she doesn't think twice. She goes in and doesn't really care or consider whether or not she'll come out of there alive. Her main drive is on making sure that those she cares about have safety and if that means dying in the fight, so be it.
At the end of the day, Vi's big heart and sense of responsibility is her biggest undoing. She never really ends up making her decisions based on her wants and more so makes them on the basis of what others need. This leaves her to completely disregard herself and her needs for the sake of other people.
What also confirms that she was passively suicidal are the lyrics of the song that plays during her montage as pitfighter. Maybe I'll go over that in another post. I've ranted enough as is lol.
