桃を煮る ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

アボガドは指で押して硬さを確かめて買うが、桃はデリケートなので触らないで買う事にしている。長らく霊感頼りに桃を選んでいたが、結局のところフルーツ専門店で買うか、値段が高いものを選べば失敗がない事がわかった。

それでも１シーズンに二度ほどは硬い桃にあたる。特に先週買った桃は歯茎が怪我しそうなほどの危ない硬さだった。しばらく室温に置いて追熟させていたが、一向に柔らかくなる気配がない。仕方がないので煮て柔らかくすることにした。

御誂え向きに、食べきってしまったアンズシロップ漬けの汁もある。これに桃を投入してぐつぐつ煮る事にする。１時間ほどですっかり柔らかくなった。

昼下がり、このシロップを強炭酸で割って桃のサイダーに。勇んで口をつけるが桃がまだ生ぬるい。冷え切っていなかったようだ。これはいけない。氷を投入しようと冷凍庫を開けるとバニラアイスが目についたので、氷代わりにアイスを浮かべフロートにする。本来桃と乳製品の相性がいいのか、なかなか心浮き立つ味わいの結果オーライなデザートとなった。

He left behind the noise of the city, traveling to remote corners of the earth to reconnect with nature and document it. His slow-travels took him to Kyrgyzstan, Albania, Montenegro and Norway on four separate trips.

Whiteout conveys both the overwhelming beauty and unpredictability of nature. He writes: “Nothing ever felt more intense then being caught by beauty and anxiety at the same time”.
