Kind of random but does anybody else feel really guilty for liking Radiohead/Thom because of the Israel-Palestine situation?

Wow. This is genuinely fantastic and so insightful, thank you for writing this!! I agree and totally understand what you mean about the feelings this album gives you. Your descriptions of the songs are also perfect. It is very diverse, you’re right, and I feel that alone makes it special. It honestly feels like a fall day to me, like I’m in nature kind of, especially there, there. And they did a lot of interesting things here musically too. Thank you again for reaching out with the question and writing a beautiful response!
thank you so much for the ask!!
now, what makes hail to the thief YOUR favorite Radiohead album? Also what’s your favorite track on it?
massive ramble:
oh man. to me, httt is a very diverse album. i think it is the perfect in between of kid a/amnesiac and in rainbows. it captures my favorite radiohead era (the band seemed the happiest 2003-2005 imo.) it is a very emotionally charged album, focusing on a variety of rather important topics and feelings.
songs like “sail to the moon” & “where i end and you begin” are so hauntingly solemn and beautiful. “we suck young blood” is incredibly underrated, but it is truly phenomenal. i don’t think i’ve ever heard a song like it. initially “myxomatosis” seemed unfit for the album, but the more i listened — the more it fit in. “there, there” and “the gloaming” add more to the solemn element. “there, there” in specific gives me this feeling that i cannot shake. “just cause you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s there.” like hello??? “2 + 2 = 5”, “a punch up at a wedding”, “a wolf at the door” and “go to sleep” really establish the general sound of the album. im not sure how to elaborate on this — i hope you understand what i’m saying. scatterbrain is probably my least-listened track, and i prefer the com lag version of “i will.”
i truly believe there is not a bad track on httt. i think it is so well put together, and it seems like they had fun making it. (which, i assume they did — according to interviews following its release.)
another part i love about this album is jonny’s use of the ondes martenot. obviously it had its place on kid a/amnesiac & in rainbows, but i feel that it was the most powerful on this record.
anyways, my personal favorite would have to be “where i end and you begin.” this song has stuck with me from the moment i heard it. it is so so so beautiful. it reminds me of the wind, and being cold while contemplating what you’ve done wrong. myxomatosis is a close second, a rather whimsical song.
i hope this makes a little sense! i will probably revise this at some point… let me know if there’s a mistake/you need clarification on something :-).
