Lower Decks episode where an attempt to update the universal translator instead knocks it offline just as the gang are in the middle of a delicate away mission.
T'Lyn and Tendi are left speaking their respective species' native languages. Rutherford turns out to have been speaking Filipino the entire time. Mariner takes solace in the fact that at least she and Boimler will be able to understand each other.... only for Boimler to start speaking Esperanto. ("Esperanto?! Seriously?!" "*stuttering Boimler-isms in Esperanto*")

my favorite coworker told me the scenario she thinks of to fall asleep is she stumbles upon a baby sheep and has to raise it and it grows up and she has to shear it and she says she envisions shearing it so carefully that she always falls asleep at that part

The thing about Martha Jones is that, like, people talk about how unfair her treatment is — on both Watsonian and Doylist levels.
And yeah, a lot of that is definitely true.
And at the same time: out of all Ten’s companions, Martha is arguably the one who most gets to establish her identity as herself, as more than a companion/an extension to the Doctor.
Donna is only able to “move on” from her time in the TARDIS because the Doctor and everything associated with him is literally excised from her memory against her will.
Rose? She gets stranded forever (“forever”) in an alternate universe and still can’t just grieve, move on, and build her own life; everything is thrown into figuring out how to somehow get back to the Doctor.
But Martha… oh, Martha. She goes on the adventures, has the best and worst of times (mostly the worst), saves the world on her own two feet. And then she says, No. I love the Doctor, but I deserve better than this. And I am my own person. I’m going to be my own person. I was going to be a doctor before ever I met the Doctor, and I’m going to get that license. I’m going to get a job. I’m going to get married. I’m going to be my own person, with a life of my own.
And she goes off and does exactly that, and she does it amazingly, and I love her for that and for everything else and tbh I would watch a whole series of The Adventures of Martha Jones pretty please.

Dear BBC
It seems that you don't have any money, probably due to the Tories or something. Luckily I have a solution to this problem.
Putting CGI in Doctor Who is expensive but you know what isn't? Asking all your staff to bring in their recycling bins and buying lots of paint.
The Welsh quarries are calling BBC. Disney betrayed you, didn't they? You don't need to worry about them when you use an old shower curtain as a costume.
We don't mind. Our eyes bled when we saw a CGI judoon. We physically retched at some of the environments you placed Doctor Who in.
But we're still watching episodes from the 1970s, aren't we?
Give us cardboard, give us plasterboard, give us foam, give us plastic, give us natural light, give us piles of rubble, give us silver paint, give us props the actors can interact with

You're not exactly catching us at our best. That much is certain.

Perhaps, somewhere, all your ends are written as indelibly as mine. But I choose to believe that your destinies are still your own. Maybe that's why I'm here—to remind you of the power of possibility. Maybe that's the good in seeing my future. That I might remind you that, right up until the very end, life is to be worn gloriously. Because, till our last moment … the future's what we make it. So … go to war with each other. Or, join our Federation of Planets, and reach for the stars. The choice is yours.

I don't know. This is far too reductive, of course, but I kind of think that there is a very real and notable difference between the way that violence was treated in the 1960s Star Trek, which was written in the shadow of nuclear armageddon twenty years after the bloodiest war in human history (and largely by people who had fought in that war), and in the newer series, where the writers' experience of violence comes primarily from action movies and video games.
Like, I think that there's a tendency of people in the present to imagine that people in the past were naive and...I really don't think that history bears this out. I don't think that subversion is always clever just because a trope can be subverted. I think that imagining that your enemy might be an actual moral actor with whom it's possible to reason is actually a great deal more mature than imagining your enemy as a bloodthirsty monster who will kill by nature.
