Quick free drawing snap, sketchy life scribbles, perfectly imperfect. Trying to get back into the swing of things following a nasty Covid catch just before Christmas. The whole family down for the entire holidays, now 3+ weeks later and still feeling the after effects. Looking forward to a more productive year now after the removal of several skin cancer tumours early last year and a persistent cystic growth some months later. My soulmate too has unfortunately been dealing with a year of megachallenges and will finally undergo a long awaited surgery at the end of this month. After some good recovery and much needed rest, our time to bloom will return. A big thank you to everyone who has been there making everything easier for us. 25 years ago… already!? Rainbow Nation Trucking - pastel on Canson paper, 50 x 65 cm (unframed size) - done back in 1997 for the Regional Sales Manager Truck Division - Mercedes Benz SA, who hung the painting in his Cape Town office.

I wanted to create a rainbow-like effect on the truck itself, to reflect the term ‘Rainbow Nation’ - a term used by Archbishop Desmond Tutu to describe the New Democratic South Africa. Mercedes Benz Actros Truck brochures were used as reference.

Image taken from an old analogue photo of the framed painting, hence the visible reflections on the protective glass covering the artwork.

The same gentleman later commissioned a series of racing truck line drawings for the Mercedes Benz Suite at the Newlands Rugby Stadium.
