Review: Punch-Out!!
It’s time for another retro title with Punch-Out!!, released worldwide in 1987, for the NES. Again, my only familiarity with the series is through playing as Little Mac in Super Smash Bros. This is an 8-bit title, so how well does it hold up under a modern day gaze?!
The game, originally released under the title Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, is in many respects a port of two preceding Arcade…

Review: Mega Man 7
First blog post in a very long time. Ever played a Mega Man game before? I sure hadn't!
One may think, Mega Man 7, first released in Japan in 1995, is a bit of a random choice to play. For myself, this is the first Mega Man experience I’ve had outside of playing with the character on Super Smash Bros.. I did choose it at random, but I have a particular liking for the SNES aesthetic, so, as the only core Mega Mangame on the console, I was happy to give it a try. How does this retro…

I've drawn out what would be the map of all of Japan in the Pokémon world. Starting with the existing maps for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, I've connected them together using elements from the map found in the recently uncovered Spaceworld Pokémon Gold demo. I've been fascinated by this demo since it has surfaced! Would love to see all these areas come together as one adventure, but would be a rather big world! Not too pleased with how Johto and Hoenn join together but tried to stay faithful to the layout from the demo.

Super VG Playlist: Flying Battery Zone
Time to celebrate some of the great music in our video games!
Video games are full of fantastic music, whether its a character, stage or even menu theme. We’d like to start celebrating some of these on the blog every now and then. For our first music track we’re going to talk about…
Flying Battery Zone – Sonic & Knuckles/Sonic Mania
This is a stage theme from one of Sonic the Hedgehog’s Mega Drive era titles. The stage itself takes place on a giant flying…

LATEST: Classic Stage List - Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
Continuing our list, we rank the stages from Sonic the Hedgehog - the 8-bit edition.
The 8-bit line-up of Sonic games might not seem so worthwhile on the surface; surely they pale in comparison to their 16-bit, original, main series counterparts. Truthfully, I can’t much defend them from this scrutiny entirely, but there is some worthwhile stuff going on in these to merit discussion. The 8-bit series all begins with Sonic the Hedgehogfor Sega Master System and Game Gear, released…

Classic Stage List - Sonic the Hedgehog
Starting what will be quite a large list - the best classic stages from Sonic the Hedgehog.
I’ve been thinking of doing a list like this for awhile, but never been quite sure how to present it. Ranking every Sonic stage together at once seemed a daunting task and one that couldn’t possibly represent truthfully the quality (or flaws) of each stage. So, we’re going to do this one game at a time to ensure the greatest level of consideration for each representative and surely the best…

LATEST: Green Hill: The Best Level in Sonic the Hedgehog
Where would Sonic be without Green Hill zone? Is it the best level in the original Sonic?
The original Sonic the Hedgehog game from 1991 remains a well respected release even by today’s standards, a stance dramatically supported by an incredibly well-made mobile port back in 2013. Each and every level within the game is a gem of nostalgia, with luscious backdrops and catchy music accompanying some very solid level design. The pinnacle of all this, indeed the pinnacle that everything…

What’s the deal with Knuckles’ Chaotix?
Knuckles' only solo outing is one of Sonic the Hedgehog's most forgotten games. Why is that?
The Sonic the Hedgehog family’s black sheep, Knuckles’ Chaotixis the forgotten game in Sega’s mascot franchise, so is it time for us to rediscover this particular adventure? Released on the Sega 32X, many would be forgiven for never hearing of this game before given that it is fairly obscure. Since then, it’s only been rereleased once and even then on a web based platform for a limited period.…

LATEST: What do Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 do better than Any Other Pokémon Game?
Remember Pokémon Black 2 & White 2. Here's why we should be picking them up again!
We now introduce Pokémon Black 2 & White 2, which stand as the most surprising pairing in the Pokémon series to date. After years of Game Freak following up each set of games with an updated third version, Black & White received, not Pokémon Grey, but a straight up pair of sequels, creating a new adventure in the same setting with a two year time gap. Yet, these games were not the Gold & Silverto

Phoenix Wright: Case Reviews - The First Turnabout
Phoenix Wright: Case Reviews - The First Turnabout Let's show some Ace Attorney love!
Little did anyone ever expect a text heavy, eccentric, Japanese video game series about courtroom dramas to become so popular worldwide, yet today Ace Attorney stands as one of Capcom’s most recognisable franchises. With six main releases, a handful of spin-offs and oddly guest appearances in a couple of fighting games, there’s a huge wealth of material to discover and relive in this franchise…

LATEST:Ratchet’s Top 5 Games of 2016
2016 is over, we thought we'd take a last look at the year with our top games from it.
Welcome readers to 2017! We’ve got quite the year ahead in the video game world, mainly the whole virtual reality scene is out and could potentially change the way we perceive video games entirely. Of course let’s not forget Nintendo and their next console releasing (supposedly) early this year; the Nintendo Switchmay be a game changer in its own right. However these are things that have yet to…
