Eremika is probably one of the best developed romances with just the right amount of tragedy, angst, hurt, comfort and unconditional love.. but it saddens me to see how misunderstood this couple is. People jumping quickly to call it "toxic" or "abusive" have no idea how much weight these words carry. Eren and Mikasa have been each others salvation in their cruel and unforgiving world. Eren saved her life and gave her warmth, home and unconditional care. A silent undeclared form of love. Always strive to give her the best... First wishing she didn't join the Military, then wishing she could join the brigade to be safe. And ofcourse Mikasa goes after him to protect the being most precious to her. Even if she risked her life, protecting and looking after Eren was more important. Eren and Mikasa always looked after each other silently, strived to fight for one another. They were literally each others beautiful beings in their cruel and unforgiving world. Eren breaking down in front of Armin ... and having a mental breakdown is normal .. him being selfish about Mikasa is his desire... which is human nature. There is nothing desperate or toxic about it. Yes it might have been slightly problematic if he forced this directly on mikasa.... but he didn't???? The idea of someone you whole heartedly love forgetting you and moving on.... is daunting and devastating. Him reacting like that in a moment of weakness is normal. But he always put a brave face when it mattered, rather always conveyed he wanted her and all his friends to live long healthy lives. Eventually had to sacrifice his love, sanity, happiness, content and most importantly his freedom, for the sake of mikasa and his friends being free.

Mikasa eventually had to do take the hardest decision in the series, not only to save the world, but Eren himself. She had to put an end to that one person she wholeheartedly loved and cherished. That one person who gave her a sense of peace, warmth and selfless love. And she was incredibly strong, physically and mentally, to go through with it.  Eren wanted her to forget him and move on to ease her pain and suffering, but Mikasa will always choose to fondly remember him. That young aspiring fiesty boy who who was fiercely capable of loving his people selflessly. Who sought dreams of living his world freely. Their preicous bond full of love, comfort and warmth. It is truly heart breaking yet hauntingly beautiful. They were each others person.

I guess alot of readers and viewers think not openly confessing love for one another  means there is no love between the people. I think the eremika shippers understood that actions ALWAYS speak louder than words.

Eren wants to forget. Mikasa chooses to remember.

If Eren really did send all these alternative universe visions to Mikasa, he wants to turn her back so she won’t follow the same bloody path as him. Eren sees their desire to be together as selfish one, because instead of fighting alongside with others and doing something great, they are choosing to live a peaceful life in mountains.

Eren loves his friends, but he is ready to sacrifice his love and humanity for a greater good. He doesn’t want them to remember him and bring them so much pain with his actions. He wants them to forget him so they won’t suffer as he did, when his close ones died.

But Mikasa sees it as the motivation to keep fighting and saving. She chooses to live so she will remember and the memory of her loved ones won’t die with her.

“Once I'm dead, I won't even be able to remember you. So I'll win, no matter what. I'll live, no matter what!”

Actually, before I thought that it was either because of her triggered anxiety, when she loose people she loves or when Ymir/Eren changes something in the timeline, but now it’s because Eren sends her alt. visions that should stop her from following him, but she still continues to move forward and stay by his side. Since she chooses to remember, Mikasa is technically opposing him and when she does, Mikasa gets a headache.

Mikasa’s selfish desire to be close to Eren saved so many people from Yeagerists and titans. Mikasa could simply die back in time and let herself be eaten by a titan. But her desire to love and remember pushes her to fight and simply live. Because of her Gabi wasn’t killed, Louise and her mom weren’t eaten by a titan, Kiyomi and her people didn’t die from hands of Yeagerists and much much more.

For Mikasa, love is a motivation. For Eren, love is a sacrifice.

The Wayhaven Chronicles, Book 2: I was totally not waiting for you

Since COG and HG have taken over my life for the past several weeks, I wanted to share my thoughts on all the stories I’ve read so far (which is only 4 at the moment, but I really liked them all!). 

1. Crème de la Crème by Hannah Powell-Smith

The first story I read and my introduction to the world of COG and HG. It somehow reminded me of Gossip Girl (but with a more vintage feel) and I’m digging it! I also have a penchant for stories set in school. Couple that with aristocrats and elite society, and I’m sold.

Favorite part/aspect: I love how immersive the writing is. You can paint the scene in your mind based on the details, and it does a good job of making you want to explore the world and the characters in this story. You just know that there’s more to the school than what is being shown at the beginning. Plus, the diversity of the characters was also great. 

Favorite character/route: Blaise. I’ve had my fair share of tsundere characters in otome games, and Blaise is definitely one of them! But despite the initial hostility, he’s earnest and seems like the type to go all in when in love. Also, he reminded me of how much I like the enemies-to-lovers trope. Blaise is just endearing and I would love to read more content about him. 

2. The Soul Stone War by Morgan Vane

The overall atmosphere was a bit a dark, but I felt like it was done in a gripping manner. It was a good balance of adventure, epic fantasy, and friendship. I also can’t help but root for the MC’s growth and development. 

Favorite part/aspect: The characters were unique and memorable. The story placed a huge emphasis on the interactions among the gang members, and it’s easy to get attached to them. One thing I really appreciate is despite the roadblocks they encountered, there was still the sense of comfort and security with the team. Like I imagine myself as the MC and I know for sure that they got my back, no matter what.

Favorite character/route: Manerkol. I’m a sucker for the soulmate trope, and this one brings a lot of delicious angst! And that climax scene with him on Book 1, when their bond finally clicks into place, it was enthralling. The series is still in progress, and I look forward to the MC’s journey of being a person who can be on the same level as Manerkol someday.

3. Affairs of the Court: Choice of Romance by Heather Albano and Adam Strong-Morse

One thing I initially noticed is how fast-paced the story is, though I still enjoyed the writing style. It’s mostly political and adventure, and the journey leading to the resolution was satisfying.

Favorite part/aspect: I like the balance between unpredictability and level of control over the outcomes. You can predict what might happen based on the choices, but this story does a good job of making you feel on edge due to the element of uncertainty and surprise. I just finished playing TWSS where the MC is well-loved and protected by the main team, and then here you have an MC who is essentially on her own to navigate politics. You don’t know who you can really trust in the Court, which places a huge significance to your choices.

Favorite character/route: Luis de Vega. That ending with him was just sweet and tender. There’s something fulfilling about capturing the interest of the King’s right hand man and loyal bestfriend and making him fall in love with you so hard that he willingly risks everything. 

4. The Wayhaven Chronicles by Mishka Jenkins

I just love this story so much. I finished playing it last week and I still can’t move on. It was an excellent mix of urban fantasy, romance and action. I’m a huge fan of romance, and TWC delivered! And who can resist our four lovable vampires?

Favorite part/aspect: As an MC, you don’t have to have specific traits to pursue the romance with the RO’s, and I love it. It allowed me to be who I am as a reader and how I personally will respond to the situations. It’s comforting and liberating. The story is also not heavily dependent on stats, which made the reading process more enjoyable. 

Favorite character/route: Oh this is difficult - but I’d say all of the four RO’s! Seriously, you can’t go wrong with any of them. I’ve become really picky with romance leads due to my long history of playing romance VN’s and otome games, but this is one of the rare times that I can’t just choose one route. Adam is Mr. Angst #1, with his brooding and serious personality with occasional tinge of tender moments. Mason is Mr. Angst #2 because of the friends-with-benefits dynamics and his emotional crisis. Nate is just (sighs) so gentle and suave, but is also on his way to being Mr. Angst #3 from what I’m picking up on the story. And Felix is your bestfriend who is just a bundle of joy and a rare burst of sunshine in the MC’s gloomy town. And how could I forget the ultimate angst of all - the love triangle between Nate and Adam. All these romance routes gave me a lot of feelings, and I’m excited to see the developments for the remaining 5 books!
