Inspired by DELIGHT by J.B. Priestley and THE BOOK OF DELIGHTS by Ross Gay, I’m starting a new series on things that bring me joy. I plan to draw these until I reach 365 panels, or until my delight runs out.

Little Things
I've always been a big believer in appreciating the little things. But the trick I've learned is that it's not a matter of appreciating them when you see them, but rather seeking them out.
I'm constantly on the lookout for small things that make me happy. To list them right now, I can see or have recently experienced:
The little spider that lives in my apartment number and hangs out on the wall when I come home
The hanging basket with pretty purple inchplants in it
Seeing the blanket I worked so hard this winter to knit
Making my fiance smile or seeing him deeply invested into something he loves
The rotating bookshelf I got secondhand from my parents (rotating bookshelves are the freaking coolest)
The escape games that I have yet to play that I keep by my chair to know I always have something fun to do
The picture collage on my wall that was a present from my grandma with several happy memories inside
Knowing there are people who love me and who I love in return
The magnets on our fridge that my fiance brought back from traveling that I made into a snake in the order of when he visited them
I'm sure I could list more, but I'm equally sure you're tired of my rambling. I hope anyone that reads this does a quick check of the little things around them to find the ones that make you smile.

Do you ever just forget technology exists? Yesterday I was talking about poison with someone and my mind wandered to what I would do if someone accidentally swallowed something they shouldn't.
Immediately, my brain was like "oh yes, this is easy. Under the kitchen sink are a bunch of cleaners. They usually have warnings on them. Maybe the poison control number will be there." (Spoiler: it isn't)
So basically my plan was to walk away from my smartphone, search through my cleaning supplies for a bottle with a number that I would then have to take back to my phone to call. Also having passed an Alexa *twice* in earshot of all of this.
TLDR: don't drink bleach in my house. You'll probably die.

I like when people say "You must be a leader. You must find your own path."
There are times when that's true of course, but your worth is not determined by your ability to lead. The best leaders know when it's time to follow another.
If everyone tries to lead at once, there would be chaos. We must take turns, find our place. As long as you're happy where you are, it's nobody else's business how you lead your life.
Not a stock photo-- this is my amazing aunt, taken on Boxing Day this past year. Leading us in to the polar bear dip we try to do every year 😊

*Can I draw? Nope! Apparently not even straight lines. But some things are more fun visually, so here you are.

Recently turned my laundry room into a plant nursery. It’s now one of my apartment’s happy places. Do you have any spots that make you happy just to see them?

Introducing Lyla, the apartment number spider!
Lyla is very sweet and lives comfortably under the apartment number by my door. In the early evenings, when I'm coming home from work, she'll just be poking out in search of food. Later in the evening, she'll wander out along the wall and kindly disposes of the little bugs that like to congregate by the light outside the door.

A Brief Introduction
Well it's no fun reading things without knowing who they're coming from, so a bit about me (this is going to be a fun one to read a while down the line):
I'm an engineer and a lady, so that should tell you one thing. That's right, I'm stubborn.
I'm far too optimistic and am lucky enough to stay that way.
I grew up in the South (NW Florida) and have yet to fully come to terms with all that entails. Apparently Mardi Gras isn't a thing everywhere? Who knew?
Recently (2 years ago), I discovered a love of romance novels and have now read over 300 of them (thank you Kindle Unlimited).
Musicals are the soundtrack of my life. Unfortunately for my dear friends, a love of musicals doesn't come with a good singing voice.
If you stick with me, I will overuse parentheticals and I make no apologies for it.
Love sci-fi and fantasy. Still mad that the SciFi channel got renamed to SyFy (pronunciation: sif-y).

Goal #1: Have space to take some of the random thoughts in my head and express them to the (so far) nameless denizens of the internet.
Goal #2: Try not to post anything I'll be particularly embarrassed about down the line. This is likely the trickiest goal.
Goal #3: Improve my writing? Being a working engineer for a few years has certainly done it no favors.
