Visual presence analysis
(ongoing social media campaign for The Bellflowers)
Which audio/visual elements are characteristic of your client’s social media presence?
Having analyzed my target clients social media presence this is what I have gathered:
The most common audio/ visual elements they use:
in both Instagram and tiktok, the band shares snippets of original audio (preview of their upcoming songs) as well as some clips of previous/ their latest shows. They also use some of their favorite songs from other musicians on tiktok (They cover some of their favorite songs and share the video to tiktok and Instagram)
This is mostly both visually and audio wise the band really promotes video and audio footage more than they do just image sharing. Which considering that my clients are musicians it makes sense as to why they need to promote video and audio as priority.
I also took note that both tiktok and Instagram videos are very short, they get to the point, showcase their original material, and it's both entertaining and promotional.
2. Would you consider your client’s content to be optimized for the platforms on which it is shared?
I've noticed that Bellflowers tend to post very little, but enough to keep it up-to-date for their followers:
They post recent pictures of event posters, then within a few dates after their shows they post clips of fans or friends who helped record their show to instagram and tiktok. But I do think that having a more planned outline of potential content could definitely garner them more interactions and recognition. They could look more into posting already published songs of theirs to indie streaming platforms like bandcamp. Or create a reddit community for their fans or other musicians to interact and learn from one another.
I think it would be very beneficial for them to post some of their covers to youtube even as a short or a reel on Instagram. As well as look in to creating a twitter or facebook other platforms they can expand their listener audience to for all age demographics by being a little more connected to different audiences.
Here I have shared some of what I think is their most successful posts content wise as well as audience numbers.
I appreciate looking at how tiktok is formatted because you are able to see view counts and you can see the difference in audience interaction and reaches:

Audience assessment
To which audiences has your client traditionally tailored their content?
They tailor their content to younger adult audience around 18-26, seeing as their main social platforms are within the age range mostly used by young adults, tiktok, YouTube, Instagram.
Do you recognize any audience segments that have been un(der)served in the past?
The target audience I think still needs more attention and catering is maybe older music lovers who enjoy indie music with lots of acoustic guitar and soft tempo with powerful vocals.
How would you profile the target audience for your social media campaign?
I would look into their current followers and from the information I can find I can build a profile for their target audience, then I can make tailored content but also keeping in mind of their lesser reached audience I can create multiple content to fit and reach all of their audience. That way we could see an influx of more engagement.

Strategic assessment
What would you consider to be the major strategic goals of your client?
From what I have been keeping track of, the band's primary goals are to promote their music but also attempt to connect to their audience through post and comments.
Which key performance indicators can be analyzed to see if your client’s objectives are met?
Visual graphics, seeing their engagement rise, keeping track of their followers. Help create proposed graphics and potential content tailored to fit the platform they are currently active on (enhance the engagement) and propose further engagement beyond the platforms they are comfortable with and suggest newer platforms that could help boost their engagement and widen their audience.

Client Introduction
Which entity will be your client, and what personal connection do you feel toward it?
The entity that I would love to work with for my social media campaign as a client is a band called 'Bellflower'. They are a two person group made by:
Electra Richards and Lauren Seely Wallach
Which is made up by a very talented and creative friend of mine from highschool, Electra and their wonderful college friend Lauren.
They created their band about a year or so ago but have only recently been more active in creating more music and sharing it publicly which I am super interested to see how they flourish both musically and socially.
Across which social media platforms does this entity maintain a presence?
The Band uses Instagram as a primary source to help promote their upcoming projects and promote their shows. Their handle: itsbellflower
they also promote their email for any type of inquiries and for people to reach out to them. The group promotes their YouTube channel where they upload their first audio demo for their song 'it always rains on Christmas'
Their tiktok also has similar content to their Instagram, where they upload snippets of covers and original content: bellflowerband

influencer marketing
A few online influencers I follow:
mmabel.ward:
a "Macro-influencer" that I have followed since 2019? I remember seeing this content creator when I was young, they started off as a makeup channel on Youtube and has then turned into an internet influencer with a following of 152K followers on IG (where I first discovered them)
I also just found out they are now lead singer to a band called "The Marbles". I have yet to check their music but knowing the influencer I assume their music is interesting and "new".
Manicpixie.transgirl:
a Micro celebrity I follow on IG. I came to find her when she was just getting popular on the Instagram platform, I say she's a micro-celebrity because I am mostly looking at their IG stats. Anyways She is a micro-celebrity with about 32.2K followers on IG. Her content is mostly original memes about her experiences of girlhood/ femininity as a trans person. I value hearing about her experiences, even if it's mostly through absurd gen z humor.
Leighlily657: is a Nano influencer on TikTok with about 1k followers. Whose opinion in arts and words I cherish deeply. Her casual TikToks and laid-back style have endeared themselves to the screens of many who share similar interests. As a content creator, she makes her audience feel like close acquaintances and often posts relatable content and shares her opinions and interests on her platform.
Now back to the question of what type of influencers am I mostly to interact with?
Small influencers. I just think that it's personally hard for me to be interested in people or things that get "too mainstream" or "too known" I don't immediately dislike things that are popular, I just have a hard time being interested in what others have since I already know how different our views are. (I just like keeping my opinions to myself and I don't like the influences of others seeping into my likes?)

Transparency + Privacy
How do I keep my personal life private in online spaces? where do I draw the line between transparency and privacy?
I often think I keep complete transparency in my online presence- as in I have a public profile and a private profile.
Public: a profile with which I can be reached online. Family and friends, minimum personal life updates.
Private: a profile through which only personal friends can reach me exclusively. ironic, it's actually the most personal and private thoughts plastered into a "private" persona. Persona I created it to keep family and my close friends separated, I tailor content to both private and public personas.
In short, I just realized I'm not doing a good job at keeping my privacy, anyone could find information about me through all my "private" profiles. But now I feel encouraged to be a lot wearier of what I do post online.

Persona
(An attempt at creating a persona profile for a class assignment.)
Average Minot State Student:
Charlotte James
22
Female
Hockey Athlete
The main concern as a Student:
Tuition, Grades, and sports time management.
Advertising solution:
Student Help resources becoming more available and engaging for the student body population. There could be an app that keeps students aware of events and programs that help make their school life easier. Those include links and information about student help services. Social media pages that remind students of events create videos and other engaging content for students. Have a student's concerns be heard and discussed with the help of the Student Government Association.

Desultory
(Advertising/SM and...am I just an easy target?)
The last thing I was moved to download was 'Etsy', which I originally didn't care all too much to download.
It's a platform in which people can put up their small businesses, and sell their homemade products/ various miscellaneous services? (At least that's what I equate its purpose to as a platform? and this is mostly regurgitation for me.)
The campaign was not a promoted or sponsored advertisement. I was scrolling through my FYP on TikTok about two weeks ago and stumbled upon a TikTok from user @ Characterperfumes. In the TikTok, the creator listed some affordable perfumes.
What caught my eye immediately was a perfume oil listed as "As dark things are meant to be loved" (which I think was named after a quote from poet Pablo Neruda but I am not entirely sure!) by a small business from Etsy called 'Alkemia' and from what I have found out apparently, this fragrance of theirs is one that is quite sought after or at least piques the curiosity of those interested in the niche and affordable fragrances.
So (as a university student with no money and a heavy...not so heavy heart) I have been swayed to download a new app/ social media platform and now I'm seriously considering buying a lot of perfume samples and probably will talk/ review them here on this blog. And although this was more of a 'word-of-mouth advertisement and not a traditional paid ad campaign, I still fell for the want to consume something new, I was sucked back into the clutches of social advertisement before I realized it.
(and now I too shall promote this new curiosity of mine to the world)
The fragrance scent: Lapsang Souchong tea, leather, black amber, labdanum, caramel

Antediluvian. (Murky days, days during the rise and fall of man from genesis… and other words)
->of or belonging to the time before the biblical Flood "My head falls back and the walls crash down. And the sky and the impossible explode. Held for one moment I remember a song. An impression of sound. And then everything is gone forever. A strange day"- A Strange Day by: The Cure.
My personal use of social media?
The platforms I frequent the most are as follows:
- Instagram
- Spotify
- Spotistats. FM
- Pinterest
- TikTok
- Youtube
These platforms are mainly to entertain me while also being capable to be used while multitasking.
Pinterest for example, I could be mindlessly scrolling through my many Pinterest boards catered to my explore pages while listening to a video essay on something niche that caught my attention. while simultaneously I listen to music just to make sure my listening stats are up to date. (the worst hobby a person could have, IMO: Audio quality- it'll be a painful and expensive journey for those down the strenuous path of finding the best audio qualities known to man. & being obsessed with music... just take it from me- you absolutely do not want to be obsessing over how many minutes you passed streaming music from the 80s within the past four weeks...)
As for how much time I spend on average, I think I actually cut down on time since I finally got a new phone so my screen statistics are slightly off for this month. But I will still include what I can.
On average my estimate is of 8hrs on no schooldays, it probably gets reduced to 4 hrs during school.
I spend about 13,300+ minutes streaming music
My social media experience is mostly positive I think?
I tend to use it as quick means to fill up my head with more thoughts and potential ideas for new art, and other creative projects that will pop into my head. I hardly have time to actually wallow and compare myself toothers's happier and more active social life ( I am hyper-aware that social media is only intended to be a gallery of people's social highlights only.) And whatever people decide is a 'decent' thing to post online. Instead, I wallow around because of sillier things -> not being the physical manifestation of particularly odd classical paintings.
But I do see the negativity of constant social media usage especially if you practically grew up with it as a child.
However, in a peculiar way, I always avoided certain platforms due to secondhand knowledge of others' horrible and depressive experiences with certain social platforms. ( I'm reminiscing about the fact that I avoided the entire early 2010's Tumblr fandom community and the very much harmful community of certain 'aesthetic' blog accounts. But I do feel like I missed out on expressing my thoughts so I will probably be making it up in my 20s as I keep jotting down the strangest flickering thoughts.)
oh well now isn't this funny? I ended up getting Tumblr for a class. It is an easier way to blog than I originally anticipated.
