VanCAF is always such a fun event for us. My group & I have other full-time jobs so we don't have as much time to work on the creative things as much as we would like. But everytime we table at VanCAF, we are reinvigorated to keep following that creative spark and draw our little tired hearts out.
VanCAF 2023 is happening really soon!
The Vancouver Comics and Arts Festival will be happening from Saturday, May 20th to Sunday, May 21st! It'll be from 10AM-5PM for both days.
We'll be at Table K02-1 in the gym area! We revamped our savoury food zine to include a couple of new drawings.
We're still working on Volume 3 of our comic, so unfortunately it will not debut for this year. But we'll be selling our other comics and our Tiny Drawings of Big Food zines, in addition to food-themed stickers and a hot pot keychain!
A few weeks back I drew a small background at my workplace's sandbox area. We used it as a backdrop for Mother's Day photos. The theme was "You are my sunshine". It was fun to break out the ol' paint pens for this exercise.
Our Lunar New Year sticker sheets are officially out of stock! But you can still get them over at Chinatown Wonders before the Chinese Lunar New Year.
We are so grateful for everyone who has supported us/reached out to us. It's been...quite a year, to say the least. Thank you for all the support and we are working hard to keep on creating!
Canzine 2020 is going virtual this year! It will be held on Oct 24-26. Can't wait to check out all the other vendors during this 3-day event. Because it's all on the interwebz, that means our stuff can be purchased by international people as well!
This year they've made a cool interactive map where artists are in different little islands. You can find us at Canzine's Punks Path. Check out canzine.ca for more info!
My friends and I (@friendsandfood ) are gonna be a part of Canzine online this year!
My tiny dim sum zine will be one of things we're selling during the 3-day event. It's all online and will be from Oct 24-26th. Because it's online, international people will be able to purchase stuff as well! Check out canzine.ca for more info.
We're working on Vol.3 of our comic with a new theme & transitioning out of Hot Pot Springs. I'm excited to see how to integrate Bo into our new stories!
Bo the Bowl lives in the Lo Mein Land and comes from a long line of porcelain bowls. Click to enlarge and see Bo's details done by Sylvia – @ohmytangerine 🍜
Bo is still trying to find their place in life, but has met some cool friends along the way (like Haw the shrimp!). Hopefully Bo finds what they're looking for in Vol.3 of our comic!
*Phew* Finished our first event of the year & feeling invigorated! Thank you so much to all who came out to see us & all the amazing vendors! It was great to chat with everyone about food 🙌
We also got some new restaurant suggestions too. Let us know what are your recommendations for great food (dim sum restaurant suggestions?) 😋
We'll see everyone at our next event in May at VanCAF (Vancouver Comics and Arts Festival)!
My dim sum zines are hand cut & folded. They measure less than 2" x 2" when folded so it can go in your pocket as a lil' guide on beginner dim sum ordering ✍️
I'll have them available at the Creative Chinatown Fair this Sunday from 11-4pm! 188 E Pender St (right along the Lunar New Year Parade route) 🏮

We're going to be tabling at the Year of the Rat Creative Chinatown Fair this Sunday. These Lunar New Year themed stickers were made especially for this event!
We'll be bringing our "Friends & Food: Stories" comics & other food-related zines too. We'll also be selling a Lunar New Year zine, which has little blurbs about each of the dishes we drew. It was a lot of fun for all of us to think about what dishes we grew up with to celebrate Chinese New Year. Come see us at the fair and tell us about some of your own traditions & food!
🏮 Sunday, Jan 26, 2020 • 11-4pm • Chinatown House | 188 E Pender St

Braised dried oysters with black sea moss/Ho See Fat Choi/蠔豉髮菜 is a dish eaten during the Lunar New Year. The name is a play on words to bring in good luck & fortune in the upcoming year. Here's our version of 蠔豉髮菜 drawn by Sylvia 🥢
In Cantonese, dried oysters ("ho see") sounds like the words for "good events". Meanwhile the sea moss ("fat choy") sounds like the words for prosperity/"to get rich". Lettuce is used for the bottom of this dish and is called "seung choy", which sounds like the words "to grow wealth".
