Luke Agada Luke Agada, (b. 1992, Lagos, Nigeria) is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist who expresses his views using the traditional tools of oil paint on canvas surfaces. His work boldly explores the complex subject of the human mind and the abstractions that govern man’s survival and competition as the apex predator. Luke holds a D.V.M in Veterinary Medicine, and he has developed his skills without having any prior training as an artist. He sees art as a tool for grand changes in a society with a global audience. Therefore, he takes the neo-surrealistic approach to express a different world view through his paintings. Luke has exhibited his works both locally across Nigeria and internationally. In 2018, he was selected by Bili Bidjocka to participate in the Kampala Art Biennale workshop in Uganda. He had his debut international art show at Arkane Art Fair, Casablanca, in 2019. Luke has been featured and televised on several media platforms and TV shows including Wake up Nigeria on TVC and Art House on channels television. In 2018, he was featured and interviewed on Nigerian art archives by Business Day and Info-trust News. In 2020, he won the Global warming international art prize. Luke’s work explores the anti-fragile nature of the human mind that gives them the ability to overcome impossible odds and bend reality to their will. He believes he has the ability to give back to his society through compelling works that would raise questions to change the status quo and inspire others to do the same. Topic: Thriving in the contemporary art scene as an emerging artist. What to expect: This talk is aimed at highlighting some practical and foundational principles of building a successful art career, as well as bringing emerging artists to an understanding of how the contemporary art market works and what it takes to successfully thrive in it.
