Writing Dilemma
So I am a young aspiring writer, currently working a desk job but writing on the side. I have an idea for a novel and I’ve started to write it down but I’ve also heard it is best to start with short stories. I thought that was good advice. I am writing a few short stories that take place in the same world as my novel. I am unsure if I should submit these to websites and try to get my name out there. But I’m worried that if I publish them at websites I’ll lose ownership of them. Since the stories take place in my world I’d like to reference and/or use them at some point. Any advice from anyone would be super helpful.

The Creation of a Skeleton Dragon
There it was. The mountain that held what he sought. Finally months of traveling would come to an end for better or worse. The spell book he sought was so close he could feel the power resonating from the mountain. And the spell book was the only treasure in there he was sure of but he knew there would be more artifacts and knowledge than he could imagine in that mountain trove. Finding the mountain was not the hard part. It was defeating the guardian of the mountain. A fearsome dragon.
Surveying the landscape before the mountain he saw scorched parts of the plains. He was not the first to try but he knew he would be the last. Not many had tried to fight this dragon. It was well away from civilization and did not try to antagonize people. It's treasure trove was one of knowledge rather than gold. And it lived in a desolate land that even if they could people would not wish to inhabit. But he was no ordinary person. He was the necromancer Froxiv. He would be the greatest there ever was and this dragon was in his way. Things were rarely in this way for long.
He called to his legions of skeletons, zombies, and ghosts to prepare for battle. They began to move from a marching to a battle formation. The open plains left his troops completely exposed with no chance of cover. That was fine. Froxiv did not like hiding. While they prepared Froxiv used his mind to send a message to the dragon.
"I come for the spell books you guard. Let me have them and I will leave you in peace." Froxiv said using his magic powers to send the message directly to the mind of the dragon. Froxiv could sense the dragon was near but not where he was exactly.
"These books are not for you and if you leave now I will not tear you to pieces," the dragons response thundered in Froxiv's head like an avalanche. Froxiv severed the connection, that was all he needed to hear. He commanded his army to advance and had those that were able bang their weapons on their shields to bring the dragon out.
When his army had made it halfway over the desolate plain to the mountain the dragon came out to fight. He left from a cave entrance near the middle of the mountain and flew to meet his challengers. The dragon was a huge beast. It's scales were a pure black. This would have made it hard to see in the night if it wasn't for the clear white of its claws and teeth. The dragon shot a fireball towards the army of undead. Froxiv made no attempt to stop it. He had to see the dragon's power. The fireball hit just behind his third row of skeleton soldiers. The explosion engulfed thirty of them. The dragon let out a triumphant cry. The fire would have harmed more if his soldiers knew pain. And the roar might have been frightening if his soldiers could feel fear. They had long ago lost all way of feeling. His troops marched on to the mountain as the dragon circled overhead.
The dragon began to dive at the undead army preparing a breathe of fire from his mighty lungs. As he picked up speed Froxiv smiled. He ordered those skeletons who were hiding their bows or crossbows to fire and aim at the wings. The dragon was moving too fast when he realized his mistake and could not pull up in time. A volley of arrows was launched at the dragon.  A pitiful few pierced the scales but many more tore through the softer tissue of the wings.
The dragon howled in pain. Now, unable to fly, the dragon turned the dive into a hard landing. As he was coming down his claws came out and raked through the legions. No matter to Froxiv there were always more he commanded. As soon as the dragon landed his troops rushed at it. Running as best they could but it was not fast enough the dragon had recovered from the landing and was ready to fight. He swung his tail in a wide arc, shattering all of the skeletons who were caught in its path.
His minions would need to get closer to be effective. Froxiv closed his eyes and began chanting in the language of magic. When the spell was complete he looked up and saw it was effective. The dragon was attacking at empty air now. Froxiv's spell had made the dragon see enemies that weren't there allowing his zombies and skeletons to get closer to the confused beast. The dragon still struck the undead but the attacks were not as focused or damaging as they could have been.
Now to take control of the fight, thought Froxiv as he began casting another spell. He saw the effects of this one instantly. The dragon was now moving slower. The dragon seemed to be moving with heavy weights slowing it down. Movements that used to be lightning quick now were barely made in time.
His troops began to swarm the dragon. Now it was too late. The dragon would be buried  beneath his troops. The battle lasted several more hours, longer than Froxiv anticipated. The dragon was fierce and clever. He weakened the dragon further with his spells until finally it collapsed and breathed its last.
Others would have looted the corpse or rested for the night but Froxiv had one goal in mind, the spell books. Froxiv entered the mountain and after a little searching in the caverns he found what he sought. The room of knowledge. Three huge bookcases full of tomes of knowledge lined three of the walls. Froxiv stopped for a moment to appreciate the knowledge kept hidden and protected in this room. Then he proceeded to the bookshelf on his left and removed a book with a blue cover and silver runes on it. This book was the first of many that Froxiv read while staying at the mountain. His soldiers stood guard as he studied. His soldiers stood at his guardThen on the fifth day Froxiv left the mountain and returned to the body of the dragon.
"You will be magnificent." He whispered as he traced a hand around its about. He began casting a new spell. It was a spell of his own design and one that took several hours to complete. When he finished Froxiv was silent and looked upon the body of the beast.
The whole body of the creature shook. Then a great tear appeared running along its spine. Emerging from its body came the skeleton and Froxiv knew his spell had worked. He looked upon his creation with pride.
The skeleton dragon was all bone except for a thin bit of skin on the wings that allowed it to fly. The bones were held together with Froxiv’s magic. They were white and clean. The claws were still sharp and where the eyes had been now were just two black orbs. Endlessly black.
"You fought bravely and now you fight fearlessly. None shall stand before the world's first skeleton dragon!" The dragon roared its agreement and turned its head toward Froxiv. The creature bowed its head to him, it's new master.

Bothersome Star Wars Talk
So I was thinking about Star Wars the other day, because it is awesome!, and I realized something. Obi-Wan is a Sith according to his own logic. In episode three before the Obi-Wan Anakin duel they have some back and forth talk. Blah blah blah and Anakin says “If you aren’t with me you are against me!” Angry frustrated yelling face. Obi-Wan replies “Only a Sith deals in absolutes.”
I like to imagine that sounded really good in his head and then right after he was like darn! (Jedi wouldn’t swear right?) That was an absolute. Then for the next 20 some years, time between Episodes three and four, he spends all his time on Tatooine thinking of better things to say. Which is why people think he is a crazy hermit cause he goes around muttering stuff like “I am on the side of Light Anakin... no no no too preachy. I am your friend Anakin don’t let us fight” and stuff like that.

Laws of Magic
Magic is the manipulation of the world, and worlds, through the use of the magic language of Genlim. Using Genlim mages, wizards, witches, and warlocks to create, manipulate, destroy, or alter the world.
The easiest way to use magic is to manipulate the four basic elements, fire, earth, wind, and water. From using either individually or in combinations a mage can attack his foes, alter the landscape and elements, defend his friends, and many other things. If a mage becomes more proficient they can learn to manipulate more than the basic elements. One such element is whats called spirit magic. It involves manipulating the souls, spirits, and spiritual energies to accomplish things like soul wandering, spirit rending, and when combined with the basic elements it can also make healing spells more effective. There is also the magic art of necromancy. While illegal in places it is accepted amongst mages. Mages can also summon beings from other planes of existence. While powerful creatures and other worldly beings can be very helpful and useful if they are not controlled they can wreak havoc across the world.
Magic is not something that is easily or readily mastered. It takes years of study, practice, and even then a mage is limited to their life essence. Magic drains a mage physically and mentally. The more magic or, more complex the magic, the more it drains the mage. It becomes harder to focus and reach the magic and eventually they will collapse. However a person can enhance their magical capabilities in a number of ways. The most common way is simple practice. Like almost anything in life practice will allow a mage to perform magic for longer and more complex spells. Mages will often compare running to practicing magic. If a person runs a lot or more they will be able to run farther and faster with time. Magic works on the same idea.
Mages are constantly trying to learn more about magic. They conduct experiments, tests, and new ways of combining magic. This can lead to great new improvements to magic but it can also create horrible mishaps that cause catastrophes.
While magic is widely used and studied there is still much to learn about it and understand how it intertwines the world.

The History of the Council
The history of the Council of Harmonious races is a story that began as a way to increase trade and has become an attempt at a world in which the races are united.
The Council began as a group of elven and human merchants who wished to increase trade amongst their peoples. The group sought to teach members about the other race to reduce risks of breaking customs. Eventually an elf by the name of Pengonar came to power in the council. He had big ambitious ideas. Pengonar pushed to communicate with the governments of the elves and humans to have them agree to common rules. Rules such as a common currency, decreased tariffs, helping each other keep the roads clear of bandits and keep them in good condition, and just general better relations. Pengonar elevated the Council, which he renamed to the Council of Harmonious Races, from a simple group of merchants to a group that wielded considerable influence and power. Pengonar pushed to include the other races, of dwarves and orcs, in the Council. He was met with harsh resistance and never lived to see the other two races brought into the Council. Eventually Pengonar's followers were able to convince the rulers of the races to include the dwarves and orcs into the Council. The dwarves came reluctantly, they generally wished to stay away from the world preferring the safety of their mountain homeland. The orcs pushed and petitioned to become a part of the Council, the nations that had joined experienced significant increases in trade. Eventually and reluctantly the other races agreed that it would be good to include the race often considered to be the most barbaric as a way to try and civilize them. The Council saw no reason to include the goblins due to the fractured nature of goblins and the fact that many people look down at goblins.
Throughout all of this the Council gained power and prestige. Eventually the races began to use it as a government that went across all races and governments. The Council elected laws, rules, and regulations that all the races and nations would follow. Most of the rules adopted were already in practice, such as murder and robbery being illegal, some however were quite revolutionary. The Council sought to bring the nations and peoples together and has passed several laws outlawing discrimination based on race. Unfortunately the Council relies on other governments to enforce their rules. This leads to many laws being lazily enforced.
The Council has gained considerable power and is beginning to develop a military and officers, independent of the other nations. The Council hopes that by having a more military presence the other nations will listen to them more readily and be less dependent on the other nations. The Council still has numerous obstacles to face but it hopes to improve relations of the races and create a more peaceful world.

History of Sywald: Orc-Dwarf War
The Orc-Dwarf War was a bloody conflict involving the nations of the dwarves, orcs, and goblins. It began as a continuation of the Goblin Conquest Wars. The Orcs having taken over a majority of Goblin land wished to take the rest of it. They were still frustrated that after shattering the goblin army on the plains of Habrook, others took some of their spoils of war. The orcs struck at a goblin city that was under the protection of the dwarves. The orcs felt that after their victory in the Goblin Conquest Wars all goblin land rightfully belonged to them. Striking hard and fast the orcs were able to take over several goblin towns and cities. The dwarves were furious at the incursion and went to the Council of Harmonious Races for aid. The Dwarves moved quickly to mobilize their army to stem the onslaught of orc aggression. The orcs quickly made it to the mountain fortress city of Tumunzar and laid siege to it. The dwarven legions quickly rushed to its defense and a long gruesome battle ensured. The orcs tried to break into the fortress several times unsuccessfully and with heavy casualties. The dwarves defended it valiantly but were unable to push the orcs back. A stalemate ensued. Each side tried different strategies and plans to break the other side. The dwarves were as unmovable as the mountains of their home and the orcs were as persistent as a blood hound hunting its prey. The Council was unable to come to a decision and was therefore unable to aide either side. The elves did not wish to become involved in a war they saw as beneath them. The humans were still consolidating their power in their acquired lands. The war lasted years. The primary battle was at Tumunzar but both sides tried to circumvent the other, which led to numerous skirmishes and battles. The war was long and bloody. After years and years the humans saw a chance to take more land. They organized a deal with the dwarves and attacked the orc lines from the back while the dwarves struck the front. The siege was broken and the war was over. The humans attempted to rally the dwarves to continue pushing the orcs back but the dwarves had had enough of war. The humans attempted to push the orcs back but after being routed at Tumunzar the orc army rallied and fought back. The human forces were unprepared for the turn around and were woefully unexperienced compared to the veteran orcs and were defeated. The war ended with the dwarves pulling back into their mountain kingdom, the orcs licking their wounds and rebuilding while also tightening their grip on their new lands, and the humans gained a bit more land and realized they were unprepared for a full scale war.

Race Creation
Elves- The elves were brought forth from the pure lake of Loressea by the goddess Udduca. Udduca wished to see what creatures with a heightened sense of awareness and intelligence could do. She created elves from Loressea and because of the pureness of the water elves are very pure themselves. They seldom get sick and are long lived. Elves worship Udduca by creating art out of the natural world.
Dwarves- The dwarves were carved from the mountains of Sharbardush. Originally the god Medar only wished to carve little figurine statues. Medar was a master craftsmen and a perfectionist. He would create a statue and then after a time become frustrated with it and create another. Eventually Medar grew frustrated with always trying to create new statues and decided to breathe life into them. Thus were the dwarves born. Being made from stone dwarves are heavier than they appear and have denser bones. Their small stature was due to Medar making the dwarves as figurines. Dwarves consider their mountain homes sacred and as safe as a womb.
Humans- Humans were molded by the goddess Crohana sister to Udduca. Crohana was jealous of her sister's elves. Trying to copy the creation process Crohana used clay to shape her creations. While failing to create something as long lived or graceful as the elves Crohana did create humans. Using the clay allowed a large variety and diversity of humans as well as being able to adept quickly.
Orcs- Orcs were created by the god Vo-Tec. Vo-Tec loved to see the interactions of all creatures and eventually he wanted to add more creatures into the mix. Vo-Tec would alter existing creatures to create new ones. Some of Vo-Tec's creations were the pegasi, griffons, sphinxes, and other creatures. Finally Vo-Tec wished to create something more than beasts thus did he create the Orcs. Orcs were altered from humans and some animals merged and altered together. Because of the beast in them Orcs tend to be closer to animals and more ferocious. Many other races look down on the Orc culture as savage and barbaric.
Goblins- Goblins were created by the god Orelin. Orelin saw the success of the sisters Udduca and Crohana and wished to create a race for himself. Using the sisters creations as a template Orelin used swamp water to create the race of goblins. Unfortunately it did not all go well. Goblins were smaller and weaker than the other races. However their swamp water origins made them immune to all but the most lethal poisons and diseases. Without the brawn of other races goblins rely on their brains and cunning for survival.

first attempt at a story
Chapter 1
The stars were bright. Or perhaps it was simply the darkness of a night lacking a moon, a deep velvety darkness. It was a perfect darkness to hide in. Which was the exact reason he and his warriors were out. This was the night they would strike. They were the first strike. The Elder Ones had trusted him to lead the first charge. It was an honor to be able to draw the first blood. His people would forever remember him as the one who started the war. It was what he had always wanted, to be able to conquer and be remembered for all time. Death held no fear to him, what was death if he was forever immortalized? Best of all he pleased the Elder Ones.
He looked left and right seeing his warriors lined down either side of him. They formed a semi-circle around the target. It was a dwarven caravan, stinking dwarves. He hated dwarves. He was not alone in this among his warriors and the hatred would simply drive them to fight fiercer. Dwarves were the race he hated the most. They were loud, short, and cowardly. Always hiding in their mountain city fortresses, fleeing into them at the first sign of real danger. Stinking dwarves.
A runner was coming from the edge of the formation. He was hurrying over, quickly but silently. Surprise was still on their side and he wanted to wait till the last minute before announcing their presence. It would be quite the announcement.
“The troops are ready and awaiting the signal, sir” rasped the scout.
All was ready. Decades of preparation and hiding in secret and now the world will know of us. What we are capable of and our goals. This night has motivated his people for years and now it was here.
“Good, resume your place” he replied, hiding his excitement and joy. It would not do to let his emotions run wild. He slowly drew his sword, the troops seeing the commander draw his weapon did likewise anticipating battle.
“Light the signal,” he whispered to a the mage next to him. The mage spread his hands and recited some words in the language of magic. It was all gibberish to the commander. Then the tree burst into an orange blaze of brilliance and he could feel the heat of it from where he stood several yards away. “Remember attack quickly and that we honor the Elder Ones with our victory!” he shouted. The war cries sounded and then the sounds of slaughter. The dwarves had believed themselves safe and secure, his troops were the first lesson that was not the case.
The battle, more of a slaughter, was over quickly. None had escaped and now his troops were burning the wagons. His troops were disappointed, they had trained and hoped for a fight and were disappointed by how easy this had been.
“Do not lose heart, the speed and ease that we carried this out with shows the strength of our training and our people! This is just the beginning soon we will challenge the might of the great dwarven fortress cities! These fights are a ways off but we must be prepared. Learn what you can from tonight and stay vigilant. The Elder Ones will be pleased to hear of our success. The taste of victory is in the air and this is only the beginning!” To emphasize these words his tongue darted out and tasted the air around him. It smelled of death, blood, fire, and victory.
His troops shouted and banged their weapons upon their shields. They were ready, they were eager, and they were bloodthirsty. The conquest had begun.

Reason why I am using Tumblr
Hello internet community of Tumblr. I am a young adult who really loves fantasy and sci-fi everything. I mean I love fantasy sci-fi books, movies, shows, games, video games, stories. One of the things I love most about all of these things is exploring and getting to know more about the world it is set in. I will not be posting very often but when I do I think I will generally have two goals. Goal 1: To get your help, generally I have not been super creative and I struggle with some things so I am going to ask for help from anyone and everyone. Goal 2: I am going to try and put up some things that I write here and get some feed back. I know it won't be the best writing ever but I hope to improve on it from your input. I am also hoping it motivates me to write more.
Thanks guys!
