Drabble day three: “I’m Gonna Marry You”

Just to make us all sadder I’m gonna put these here😭

Day 1, Day 2

“You know, Mick, I’m gonna marry you one day,” Ian said, looking over at Mickey, his wide eyes blue and his dark hair spiky.

“Shut up, don’t say that,” Mickey grumbled, looking at Ian secretly as he grabbed for the blue crayon in their shared bucket—his rounded face covered in a million freckles, Mickey knows he’s counted them before.

“Why not?” Ian asks, eyebrows that matched his curly red hair pulled together in confusion. Mickey leans forward, looking towards the teacher, before waving Ian to lean in too.

“My dad says two boys can’t get married,” Mickey whispers. “He said if his sons ever marry a boy he’d kill us.”

Ian’s eyes widened. “I wouldn’t let him do that!” then his shocked, scared expression turned into a soft smile. “And anyway we already had our first kiss together under the bleachers. We have to get married now anyway.”

Mickey just looked away shyly, a blush staining his sheets. Maybe he wouldn’t mind marrying his alien looking best friend.

His dad couldn’t be that serious, right?

Lip gets the call at 1am. Doesn’t even flinch - Chicago PD’s got the Gallagher house on speed-dial.

“Again?” he seethes. It’s his turn to bail the assholes out.

“Let me get this straight. You two stole an old van so you could make out in some rich lady’s driveway?”

“Anniversary of our first kiss, Lip. Had to go big,” Ian says, all innocence.

“Go big? With another indecent exposure charge?”

“At least she didn’t shoot at us,” Mickey laughs, to his husband’s utter delight.

Lip’s done. “You know what? You two were meant for each other.” 

“Yep,” they both agree.

Seeing things like this make me wake up in some sort of way

I'm still young

I'm still alive

I'm still a dreamer

And there are all this mind-blowing places in the world that I can travel to and see with my eyes.

But it's hard, you know, not having enough energy, enough happiness to get you through the day, to say the least, just surviving, not living.

3x06 breaks my heart for a million obvious reasons but I think one of the many reasons it hurts that isn’t talked about that much is how innocent the whole thing starts out.

So much of their lives forced them to grow up way before they should’ve. Ian was being groomed by predatory men since he was 14 and Mickey was abused his whole life. That and a million other things forced them into adulthood so much quicker than they deserved.

But then they get this night.

Then they’re together and even amongst the chaos and the awful shit in their lives, they get this little glimpse of a normal teenage relationship. Everything about it sounds so typical. Mickey’s parents are away for the night so he asks the guy he’s seeing over. Ian is so excited because he gets to sneak out of the house to actually spend the night with his maybe boyfriend that can be so distant and hard to read but has now actually invited him over to spend the night (and kissed him!!)- that has to mean something right?

They stick on a movie and sit together on the couch sneaking glances at each other wondering when the other is going to make a move. They’re both so nervous but so excited but trying to play it cool to the other. They laugh and joke together and spend time together before they have sex in an actual bed for the first time and actually spend a whole night together. Mickey made Ian food and they got to wake up together and eat breakfast together.

Up until a point, the entire situation is just so typical. They got to be normal teenagers on the cusp of their first real relationship for one night.

Then the next morning all of it was taken away and their entire lives changed forever.

ian gallagher was like the first and only person in years to show both mandy and mickey milkovich any kind of love. and i think about that everday.

i regularly think about the fact that we could have had THREE gallavich couples. ian x mickey, ofc, but also debbie x sandy, lip x mandy. debbie and sandy 100% deserved to be endgame. and i think if lip and mandy reconnected later in life, after they've both grown a little and changed, they could have made it work!
