Blog recommendation of the month
@snowghoul
Interview
1.When and how did you start to become interested in photography?
First of all I want to thank you for featuring me as blog of the month, it’s an honor! I did a lot of interviews when I was a member of PWS so it’s strange but awesome to be on the other side. My interest in photography began in 2010 where, along with a friend, I explore abandoned buildings and areas in my hometown. Gradually my interest grew and I ended up buying a DSLR in 2013. At that time I’d lost my motivation for writing so photography became my main means of expressing myself.
2. Do you think, you have a specific style? If so, please describe it.
I think I managed to develop one over time. I dont restrict myself to one genre but I believe the overall effect my photos have is the same. Rawness, grittiness but at the same conveying emotion.
3. Your blog consists to a large degree of abstracts. What is it that draws you towards abstract photography?
It’s hard to describe, as is abstract photography itself. I’m drawn to patterns, textures, shapes and motifs, they speak to me in a way. I get excited by their potential. Also, I guess I like how they can be interpreted in numerous ways or in no way at all. They can simply be felt. Just raw emotion, no need for explanation. It’s liberating to create something like this.
4. What is it that you want to tell the viewers with your photographs?
As I said above I want mainly to convey raw emotions that the individual viewer can take in and analyze for themselves. But first of all I try to exorcise my own demons.
5. If you’d have to describe yourself as a photographer in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
A person that tries to express themselves and experiment with this fascinating form of art.
6. What inspires you? How do you decide when and what to take a photo of?
Inner demons (not exactly a source of inspiration but you know what I mean). Directors like Tarkovsky, Lynch, Merhige or painters like Bacon and Kiefer. Looking at photos of great photographers (both famous and on tumblr and flickr). Extreme metal music as well. As for the decision time, that’s something also hard to describe. It just feels right when I Iocate an interesting detail or I’m looking at something at a certain angle. Doesn’t matter what it is as long as I hear that click in my mind that makes me all excited. Subsequently I hear it coming from my camera as well.
