a friend of mine has her debut poetry collection coming out in september & preorders are open at Workshops for Gaza! proceeds go to the Sameer Project. she's an incredibly talented writer & i've learned so much from her + her work, i'm very excited to read it! summary:

In her debut poetry collection, Fatima-Ayan Malika Hirsi chronicles experiences from quarantining in Dallas, to being the sole Black person in an Oregon ecovillage, to building relationships with land and water on Vancouver Island. Through climate collapse and genocide, love and parenthood and ocean song, these poems confront and confound, calling in a deep sense of care for the Earth and for one another. In a world where some pull the trigger, some look away, some try to stop the gun--Hirsi asks: Which one are you?

My friend Mosab's daughter, Lama, has been injured in a bombing in Gaza and is in need of donations to help save her life.

our last post died in traction. the leader of this group of LGBT refugees, Muhshin Magala, has been sick with ulcers for weeks now. she needs surgery to remove them, and needs $5000 for it. all we've raised currently (and in the past) has gone towards food and medication, and paying off her current hospital stay.

she NEEDS this surgery to live, and we need help from everyone else for this to even begin to be a possibility.

I found the part where Furiosa and Octoboss talk about the rumors about him and Firecat so funny, but it made a plot bunny leap to life in my mind, focused on a more emotionally intense missing scene of sorts where we see how the rumors started, centered around a very loving (but entirely platonic) relationship between the two.

I just wanted to check you'd be okay with me writing in your AU world! I'd post the fic on ao3 with credit, of course. I know you're not the only credited writer so please feel free to run it by your co-author too.

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.

american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.

this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
