HEY TUMBLR
It’s been a very, very long time. I’d be genuinely surprised if anyone read and/or cared about this. But here I am.
I’ve started a new blog/website/portfolio thing called 20yearspost.com and also a new Instagram account called @lilyandtown. As you may have guessed, I’m no longer posting on this blog, though I do lurk on my dash quite often. You’re as inspiring as ever, Tumblr~
But yeah, please follow me if you like my photos. I’m curious to see if this will reach anyone at all. Just putting it out there.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and for sticking around.   n_____n

A lot of people ask me what my biggest fear is, or what scares me most. And I know they expect an answer like heights, or closed spaces, or people dressed like animals, but how do I tell them that when I was 17 I took a class called Relationships For Life and I learned that most people fall out of love for the same reasons they fell in it. That their lover’s once endearing stubbornness has now become refusal to compromise and their one track mind is now immaturity and their bad habits that you once adored is now money down the drain. Their spontaneity becomes reckless and irresponsible and their feet up on your dash is no longer sexy, just another distraction in your busy life. Nothing saddens and scares me like the thought that I can become ugly to someone who once thought all the stars were in my eyes.

Sweetfest celebrated all things sugary and bright, as part of SMH Good Food Month. Fifteen of Sydney’s most loved cafes, patisseries, and bakeries had stalls showcasing their delicious talents. There were also inspiring demonstrations by the chefs themselves, which were as educational as they were entertaining.
Thank you to Sydney Morning Herald for organising this wonderful event, and for the free tickets! Looking forward to an even bigger and better Sweetfest in 2016.

The only three photos that I’m happy with from my first ever roll of black & white film. Seeing the rest of the photos, which were pretty mediocre, confirmed that shooting without colour requires a completely different mindset. It was a thought-provoking challenge, and I think it helped broaden my thinking, but it’ll be a while before I venture back into this alien monochrome world.
Ironically, these three photos were taken at the Botanic Gardens and Mrs Macquarie’s Point, which wasn’t the main focus of the day for me. I do really love this place though, and I have some amazing memories from here, so I plan on doing a proper shoot here someday.

I am a complete sucker for good visual merchandising

Spring is finally here, but the mindset of warm, sunny days being a rare thing hasn’t gone away. Every day I’m surprised by how warm it is, though some days are legitimately hot for this time of year. I feel like I have to take advantage of the good weather, and not waste it by being stuck indoors if I can help it.
One place I’ve been meaning to visit for a really long time now is The Grounds of Alexandria. I’d heard so many good things about it since it opened, but even my imagination couldn’t match how amazingly beautiful this place is.

The first thing I noticed was the huge abundance and variety of flowers blooming all over the farmyard-style compound. They also have their own florist; it looked and smelt absolutely magical in there. I couldn’t get a photo that did it justice. It’s one of those things where you just need to be there to appreciate every little detail that makes up the big picture.

The displays for the pastries and donuts were beautiful as well. To fit the theme, they repurposed old wooden wagons or carriages (not sure if I’m using the right term).

And to top it off, they have a little petting zoo with a goat, pig, pony, and chickens. Honestly, the whole place looks and feels like a dream.

At their restaurant, I had a berry hotcake and a coconut fizz drink. The hotcake was a tad pricey, but this was made up for by the fact that the portion size was too big for me to finish. It tasted delicious, and I loved the grains of puffed quinoa which added an interesting texture. The mascarpone was perfectly done - light, subtly sweet, with a lovely vanilla flavour. The coconut fizz was mindblowing. The combination of coconut, lime, mint, and soda was so refreshing, and I could taste every component. I loved it so much that I recreated it at home a week later.
The Grounds isn’t exactly a wallet-friendly place to eat, but I thoroughly enjoyed every second of my visit. It has a super relaxing, cheerful atmosphere, where you can take a break from life, and (both literally and figuratively) stop and smell the roses.

And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.
