A Defense of Saints Row: Dark Elf Sim

You know that Saints Row reboot everyone hated? SabrinaTVBand thinks it's a good game! And she has a bunch of things to say about the ramifications of hyperbolic internet criticism and how those gamers suck!
https://neetozma.com/2025/02/13/saints-row-2022/
The story of Saints Row (2022) is the story of a videogame that was released in a very buggy state by a reputable, but understaffed, developer. It’s the story of that same developer having a shitty parent company. It’s the story of a game that was torn apart by critics who couldn’t stop circlejerking about the bugs that they knew were going to be patched out of the game within a few months. It’s the story of how nobody wants to talk in a venue where neo-nazis are pissing and shitting themselves, which essentially made all public discourse about the game skew negative.
It’s the story of one of the most unfairly maligned videogames ever released.

Extreme Strong Female Characters and the Transfem Gender Callus
I wrote a piece about how, as a trans woman, I often don't relate to "relatable" female characters in media.
There’s nothing that precludes an Extreme Strong Female Character from being a non-static character, but most writers simply don’t know what to do with them in that context. Character arcs usually end badly for EXSFCs; character growth for surly, angry, and promiscuous female characters often means calming down, learning to smile, and finding a man. “Growth” for an EXSFC usually means becoming more normative. The hero’s journey is often a veritable Stepfordization process.
Remember that girl from The Breakfast Club? - SabrinaTVBand

DOOMer Pilled
Doom just doesn’t have any of those failings. Movement is clean, and rarely inhibited. Obstructions in level designs are intentional. Monsters appear and move as intended and Doomguy is able to move around and target them appropriately. There are zero draw distance issues, and gameplay is very intuitive and straightforward. These are huge wins for anyone coming back to try to play but, more to the point, they were also huge wins when it first dropped. - Oblivion Aesthetic

This series on open world games starts in earnest with a review of the 2015 Mad Max game.
What Happened to Open World Games?
Open world games used to be scrappy and fun. There was often something silly about them; if games like Halo 3 were comparable to a meal at a Michelin restaurant, games like Prototype were more comparable to a really good frozen pizza. And it’s maybe time that the industry tried to redirect open world games back towards that mentality, instead of trying to create lobsters that take 90 hours to eat. - SabrinaTVBand

The Gender Minefield of Ranma 1/2’s Greatest Filler Episode
When I hear cisgender allies talk about Ranma ½, it’s not unusual to hear them say “I’m not sure an anime like this could be made today”, with some comments about how some of the gender-related content may come off as objectionable, specifically for trans people. I appreciate that these people care, but I also lament how cis people generally have no idea what trans people enjoy or find offensive. Ranma’s Declaration of Womanhood is, perhaps, an object lesson in how it will probably always be impossible for a cisgender audience to understand the difference. - SabrinaTVBand
