@chickenwhite
That... that doesn't answer my question, though. Like, at all. I have no idea how that question is supposed to answer my question.
Also where did I say it was out of malice??? No one thinks these things are normal headphones, they just don't know what else to call them. That is what my post this poll was for was going to be. I was going to try to make people more aware of what the users of these devices may prefer them to be called. I didn't want to write it a certain way if a majority of people called these headphones and misspeak, ya know?
I've already addressed the lack of clarity in another post. I'm going to be making a new version of this poll at a later date.
Sorry for a lot of text, I just wanted to make sure you understood where I was coming from. I've been thinking about this for a few days and I felt like I should probably address and clarify a few things, but I didn't know what to say. Thank you for your time.

Noise Canceller Poll!!
Tumblr media
All the time, people call my Ear Defenders "headphones" and I *hate* it. I dislike it because it feels like they are calling them are want instead of the need they are and, as I need them for education and work purposes and this misnomer makes people think they have batteries (when they don't) and leads to people trying to make me remove them, however, I can also understand someone liking this term as it can help normalize your device and make you feel less "odd" or like you stick out. I wanted to see if many of the latter exist before making a post about this subject. I would love as much data as possible, so please share.

More Polls Coming Soon!
I'm planning on doing a lot more Autism, Anxiety, and ADHD related polls here, since Tumblr users seem to enjoy button go clicky and I like gathering this knowledge for people who are interested. That said, if you have any poll suggestions or have created a poll I may be interested in, I will be opening asks and submissions for that purpose! Thank you for your support!

I Should've Been More Specific
I'm gonna keep the poll up, because it is what it is, but I should've included a specific option for people who have ANC, as opposed to mine, which just have the power of tight strap and good foam. I may try this poll again at some point with those options available. for now, I simply ask that if you see this and decide to reblog or comment on the Noise Canceller Poll, you tag/reply whether or not your set has ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), and if you're reblogging you add this update as well! Thank you so much for all the data and support!

I mean.. we call a "garbage bin" that bc it's a bin for garbage, we call a "catcher's mitt" that bc it's a mitt for catcher's, we call "insect repellent" that bc it repels insects. I understand your point, I just don't see anything wrong with use-based naming conventions. This is just my point of view, however, and I thank you for your response!
