on the chunin exams: neji vs naruto battle

- I said it once, I’ll say it again: NEJI IS A TIGHTLY WOUND BOTTLE OF ANGER. Concertina wire built like a boy. His movements are fluid and flowing, but I wouldn’t call them graceful - it’s more like liquid steel or the grim gleam of ninja wire. But for all of his distant facade Neji is actually easy to upset, and he lashes out surprisingly wildly. His hurt has stewed and fermented into an animal violence disguised as ruthless skill. A ruthlessness he doesn’t adequately take responsibility for, at this point in his life.

- NARUTO + NEJI DYNAMIC HAS SO MUCH FIC AND ART POTENTIAL, PEOPLE. Two boys with life-defining seals. Who are, in some way, looked down upon by the people who should love them. Boys thick with anger and grief. Who have dedicated themselves to their anger, and the goals stemming from that anger. The headstrong, act-first-get-permission-later, trickster, unstoppable force, sunshine boy with no family or legacy who won’t let anyone define his fate, and the determined, no-nonsense, simmering, stubbornly unmovable boy so deep in his own dark he forgot the light. If Naruto is the sun and Sasuke is the moon, then Neji is the fucking eclipse. Both will burn your eyes if you look too long.

- Naruto’s Kage Bunshin are special. Not only do they possess complete chakra systems and solidity, but they have their own personalities, and each clone acts as if it is alive. Other people’s shadow clones follow orders without question; Naruto’s don’t. They feel fear, at times they try to prioritize their safety over his, they express desire, etc.

- The Chunin Exam arc can be summed up as “Genius versus Guts” in that it asks us to closely compare Lee, Hinata, and Naruto against Gaara, Neji, and Neji/Sasuke. We have the respective “deadlasts” and “top of the class” facing off… All seven are dealing with anger and hurt in very different ways….I’ll make another post about this later maybe

- As a Branch member Neji lives with rules and regulations and threat looming (literally) over his head every waking moment. After fighting Naruto, Neji catches himself rebeling in small ways: busting a seam on an otherwise perfect formal Hyuga robe and wearing it to mandatory gatherings. Bowing a fraction lower to Main members. Walking around the compound without his headband on with his Caged Bird Seal out. A purple hair tie. The feathers of a sparrow that beat died beating itself against a shop window. A tiny, tiny dandelion in a tiny clay pot on his windowsill, bright and jarring and yellow against the neutral tones of his room. Tiny infractions that slowly chip away at the cage he’s built around himself.

- Kage Bunshin is a jonin level technique. / Naruto with tight chakra control would be frightening

- Of the Konoha kids, Neji is one of, if not /the/ most, dangerous. Yes, he has unparalleled taijutsu skills and a solid defense, but those don’t matter as much as Neji’s willingness to seriously injure his fellow shinobi. He’s not blood thirsty the way Gaara is, but Neji refuses to pull his punches. We see throughout this battle that Neji is the king of overkill; between stopping your chakra flow and stopping your heart, he’s going to pick the most finite one. He targets Hinata and Naruto’s hearts immediately to trigger organ failure. I think this stems from his difficult, almost desperate desire to believe in all of the determinist bullshit he spouts at naruto, when he’s fighting his blows are punctuation points at the end of truisms Neji himself is desperate to believe. He beats down every underdog and upstart type because he’s projecting his own desire to rebel onto them and trying to subject them/himself.

- Neji is the master of projecting onto other people.

- Neji doesn’t smile, only smirks. If you made him laugh or smile his face would probably hurt for the rest of the day.

the naruto ending

what i expected: team 7 reuniting for good. naruto becomes hokage and fixes the shinobi system with sasuke & sakura by his side and does everything he can to make sure no one has to go through what they went through. sasuke clears itachi’s name and mends his broken bonds with naruto, sakura & taka while helping them fix the shinobi world. sakura becomes known as the strongest kunoichi & is regarded as a legend for being able to fight alongside the two strongest ninjas in the manga and helping them save the world without being born into a prestigious clan or having any special traits. team 7 becomes the new sannin. the slavery of the hyuga clan is abolished. everyone is happy.

What a nice theory

Analyzing Sasunarusasu reunion

Yesterday I finally watched Sasunaru reunion and I have to say, that sequence is a SNS feast in so many ways. Well, because I’m detail freak, no matter what I watch, I’m always trying to find continuity mistakes and implicit infos… this is my hobby. So, forgive me if I take analyzes way too far.:D

This post will probably be a long one, and I’m sorry. Also, this is clearly a pro-SNS post. 

Alright, time for some analysis, bear with me.

The sequence starts with Sasuke interacting with Sai. He is portrayed completely out of emotions and full of malice, just a shadow with Sharingan eyes. However, when Sai mentions Naruto, Sasuke shows his real emotion for the first time… sadness. 

Of course, soon enough, he fakes sadness with an angry expression. 

Later, when Team Kakashi finally arrives at Orochimaru’s hideout, Naruto screams for Sasuke. On his bedroom, Sasuke wakes up, but he doesn’t run away. He could easily avoid that meeting with Naruto, but he chooses to stay. The only reason I see is that Sasuke wants to see Team 7 again, especially Naruto (since it is Naruto’s voice that echoes in his bedroom).

Sasuke explodes his chamber after Sai’s attack, Naruto follows the sound of their voices and they are reunited after three years. Different from what I expected, there is no evil in Sasuke’s face, there’s no sarcastic smile, no pride, no superiority, he doesn’t even show off his new powers… he just stares at Naruto, like… a longing stare.  

Sasuke has space issues, he doesn’t like to be touched or people getting too close, but the whole “I’m going to kill you now” looks like just an excuse to touch/be physically close to Naruto again, because…

… minutes later, when Sakura attacks Sasuke, Yamato sees that Sasuke will really strike to kill. Yamato didn’t see the same intent from Sasuke towards Naruto. Sasuke wouldn’t kill Naruto.

Plus, there was no need to be so close since Sasuke’s sword can’t be diverted. He could easily perform a frontal attack with his speed right there. 

Plus, when Naruto escapes from his arms, Sasuke is not in fight mode yet.

By the end of the episode, Kabuto reminds Sasuke of Akatsuki’s goal, to trap tailed beasts, process in which jinchuurikis inevitably die. Sasuke knows Itachi is the Akatsuki member responsible for Naruto. When Sasuke looks back at Kabuto, he is not angry or cold… he is worried, worried because it’s finally time for Itachi to capture the Nine-tailed beast… and, like Sasuke himself said, they are not ready for Itachi. After all training and sacrifice, he’s still not powerful enough to protect the person he cares about.  

Sasuke has to break away again. His eyes doesn’t even flicker towards Sakura, Sai and Yamato. Naruto is… 

… the only person…

…. he sees!
