Hello, everyone! I am happy to present the prompts for this year’s KarmaGisa week!

Some of you might have noticed, but for those who don’t know, this is my second year hosting this week. Last year was my first time hosting a ship week and I had a lot of fun in the process of creating it as well as seeing what you all put together. So, I, with the help of @nagismells, decided to do it again this year! (Don’t worry, we’re not gonna do it every year 😅)

Since this is my second time hosting, I’ll be reusing the rules from last year, as they seemed to have gotten the point across well enough.

Rules:

1. Any form of submission is welcome! Art, edits, fanfics, etc.

2. Do not feminize Nagisa/draw him in a dress or skirt. Unless you watched episode 31 with your eyes closed, I really shouldn't have to explain why this is weird.

3. No NSFW, even if the characters are aged up.

Also, proshippers may not participate in this week, meaning no pedophilic or incestuous content.

4. If you make an edit with someone else's art, you must credit the artist (and ask permission before using it!).

5. Submissions may be posted on any platform!

Just make sure you use the tag (#karmagisa-week-2023) so we can find them.

6. Be respectful under all submissions that are unproblematic.

So I wanted to come up with a group nickname to refer to the friend group that I absolutely adore, my favorite characters (mimura, sugaya, fuwa, hayami, chiba, nakamura) as well. Thank you so much to Noxxie and Bones for the inspiration!!

I'll be referring to them as sunny cappuccino (or the sunny cappuccinos) ☀️

Hiromi's Character and Generational Trauma

Content Warning: Discussions of Hiromi Shiota

Hello everyone, I'd like to discuss a significant theme within Hiromi and Nagisa's relationship as mother and child.

I feel that there is a lack of acknowledgement of Hiromi's character, especially when trying to take the relationship between Nagisa and Hiromi seriously. i am in no way excusing Hiromi's actions or trying to minimize Nagisa's trauma, but I feel that a lot of the characterization of her character is misogynistic and heavily demonizes her and other mentally ill mothers.

Generational trauma is common within asian households, and it plays a huge part in household dynamics.

Hiromi didn't have the freedom to make her own choices. Her mindset is a reflection of her upbringing and her parents' ideas on her life style. While we don't know the full extent of Hiromi's childhood, we see the affect it had on her. This affect is quite similar to the affect Hiromi has on Nagisa, this is an example of generational trauma.

Generational trauma is when the traumatic or oppressive events one's ancestors have experienced passes down the affect to the next generation. This is very common within asian households, as well as other POC households.

Nagisa describes his life to be like a game, and he's the second playthrough. He's the choices hiromi didn't get to make growing up, her way of experiencing the childhood she wanted. All the things she couldn't do, the goals she couldn't make, all of that goes down to Nagisa.

Of course, real life situations are a lot more complex and the affects of the situation was downplayed, while their relationship was poorly written.

Once again, I am not excusing Hiromi's actions or minimizing Nagisa's trauma, but instead bringing light to the generational trauma that is a major factor within their relationship.
