AUs are so fucking funny. Here's my blorbo. In an alternate universe he fights everyday to keep himself alive against an uncaring world. In another universe he sings sometimes.

I am filled with love this fine morning for what an incredible character Spanish Jackie is.
She's a badass, awesome Black woman, and she's allowed to constantly be a badass, awesome Black woman. She is consistently portrayed as smart, capable, and highly respected. Not once is she made into the butt of the joke. I adore Leslie Jones as an actor, and I get so sad sometimes because, and she talks about this in a lot of interviews, she's so often given roles that are just a one-note "angry/aggressive Black woman" role.
And Spanish Jacke is calculating, and intelligent, and strategic, and an excellent pirate. I'm so glad we got to see a bit more of her in s2 because she's such a great character.

Our Flag Means Death is the creation of many many skilled and passionate artists working together to make something beautiful - a labor of love, not just another franchise churned out for money.
Art is worth fighting for!

Transcript of tweets below the cut but in short: calling makes the biggest impact, focus on DEI, you can call more than once, and you do not need to be in the US or have a Max subscription to call.
Everyone, I just talked on the phone to an absolute ally at Max, and they gave me extremely useful information! We need to be calling WAY more. It's a higher impact that most other things we can do. Here's the phone number: (855) 442-6629. But read on if you want to know WHY.
Every time Max receives a customer feedback call, that information is logged in the system. The info, *including all the details* is pushed to a server that relays it to the higher ups. They don't just get a tally of calls and general opinions—they get the full feedback.
And it's not just higher-ups at Max. Per the service rep, "it's actually read by the higher ups who are in charge of what happens within Warner Media/ Discovery."
The rep also suggested that particular types of feedback, especially those around DEI, might bear extra weight. They had to be a bit cryptic for job reasons, but they made this very clear.
They ask for an email but don't triage based on whether that email has a subscription. E.g., if you're outside the US and watch elsewhere, you can still call, and your feedback will still go up the chain.
In fact, the rep was very clear to encourage ALL people with feedback to call individually. And to keep calling! I asked whether multiple calls from the same person make a difference, and the answer was a clear yes bc the feedback gets shared as it comes in, not batched.
It's also worth noting that phone calls in general are always higher-impact than letters, online engagements, etc. This is true for political campaigns, and it's true here. There's a real cost to having people answering phones. It takes time, which equals $$.
So: Call. I know it sucks; I hate the phone too. If you have phone anxiety, you can also delegate to a friend and have them provide your name and email. If you *don't* hate making phone calls, ask friend for permission to call on their behalf!
I'll put together a little phone script shortly and add it to this thread.

Y'all, all of Max's recent videos on YouTube are FLOODED with people commenting things like "Great programming! But I'd be more inclined to check it out if you renewed OFMD for its third and final season," and it's so incredibly glorious and delightful.
If you're twiddling your thumbs/wanting another little fight to jump in, care to join?

I keep seeing posts on social media thanking the OFMD cast and crew for their work and not mentioning Taika, and it's driving me to distraction because Taika is absolutely fundamental to the existence of this show.
There's a huge chance the show wouldn't have been picked up at all if Taika hadn't attached his name to it. And he didn't just attach his name and walk away - he played a key role in developing the show. David has said that he was looking at the history with Taika and they both went 'omg Stede and Blackbeard were fucking' and decided to centre the show around that. Taika pushed for Rhys to play Stede. Taika saw Nathan's comedy on instagram and went 'yep that's Lucius'. Taika was desperate to play Ed, and fought to play him. Taika has spoken about how much he loves playing Ed, how it made him fall in love with acting again, to the point where he wears some of Ed's jewellery and has gotten some of Ed's tattoos actually inked on him. He poured everything he has as an actor into Ed (some of the stuff he had to perform, particularly at the beginning of S2, is difficult) and the show simply wouldn't work without it. Taika directed the pilot. He loved the show enough to juggle filming S1 with post-production on Thor: Love and Thunder. When the show's budget was slashed by 40%, and could no longer afford to film in LA, Taika would have been key to moving production to New Zealand - and if that hadn't happened, S2 wouldn't have happened. When a director went off sick with Covid during S2, Taika jumped in to direct half an episode and then didn't take a director's credit on it.
You do not have to like Taika. You do not have to agree with everything he does/says. But what we are not going to do is erase the absolutely key fundamental role that Taika has played in OFMD. This show simply would not exist, probably not in any form, but certainly not in the form we see and love, if not for Taika's continuing and multi-level contribution.

OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH Edward 'Blackbeard' Teach in Season 2
For the first time in my life, I'm truly and fully present. I used to view the sea as a battlefield, but now I can appreciate the bounty it has to offer, and all of the natural beauty that surrounds it. I am but a humble wanderer, blessed with this feast, no better than a heron, or a blade of grass, or some sand, or like... I don't know, a wave or something.

Idk man, it’s just that Izzy going from someone who wanted Blackbeard only so he can pirate to then having character growth and becoming fully part of the crew, part of the family, in a way he never was and then being the one who faces the guy who wants to end piracy to say, no, piracy had never been about glory, or stealing, or anything else other then belonging to something when the world doesn’t want you, choosing a family when your own won’t have you, and then getting shot and making sure that his closest family knows this too, that he is loved, and then everyone surrounding him at his funeral, cause they respected him, loved him, and will miss him, is something I’m gonna think about forever
