All we need is a little corner where we can express and celebrate our own music. Kudos to local venues who are willing to invest a little to have our little shows pop up in their spaces. When the norm is to have cover acoustic acts, some venues take a risk with #FolkCity that brings nothing but #homegrownmusic. While some people would probably judge this venue now because it doesn't "fit" to what they would consider an elite venue, this venue was willing to pay the cost of the event as opposed to those supposedly elite companies who ask to strike an exdeal with artists almost on a regular basis. This moment last night – Golda King, just like any artist who would have moments of “self down play”, sort of got annoyed that I called her to the say a few words on the microphone (HAHA) so she can own her successful art show directorial debut #IfNotNow. I knew she’d be annoyed as I would be if I were in her shoes but I chose to celebrate her because she truly deserves it and we are all very proud.
