It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. Mainly, because I forgot the password, haha.
But now that we settled that, I’ll be posting more.
Unfortunately, I am no longer baking cakes. Well, not unfortunately; if we are being honest, I didn’t enjoy baking cakes (I never have). I’m sure you’re thinking how can you bake but hate cakes?! Never really been a fan of them, and they’re very time consuming, which can end up being stressful.
Plus, I’m more of a “smaller dessert” fan; only because you can stuff your face with less guilt! I also feel it to be more of a stress reliever and creative outlet. Not to mention it’s more cost effective; which is another reason why I needed to stop making cakes. I wasn’t getting much profit and I was stressing out.
And above all, I named my “business” (using that term loosley since I don’t get much of it) Morbid Morsels, according to the dictionary this is the definition:
mor·selˈmôrsəl/
noun
plural noun:
morsels
a small piece or amount of food; a mouthful.
Soooo I can’t really be selling cakes, can I? But it was a learning experience.
Anywho, I don’t anyone is actually reading this, but if by chance someone is: Hi! And thank you for taking the time in letting me bore you :)
Also, the above cake was a cake I baked last year for Mother’s Day. It was a vanilla cake, with a strawberry buttercream.
I will post more later.

Sweet Cream Caramel Pop Corn
A while back I made my first attempt at Carmel Corn for my co-worker's daughter's birthday. Not being able to find a recipe to my liking since they all called for Vanilla extract only. I ended up with this recipe that I hope you'll all enjoy.
Ingredients:
2 Bags of Microwavable Pop Corn (I used POP Secret Kettle Corn)
Pam Baking Spray
1 Cup of Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup of Light Corn Syrup
1/2 Cup of (Salted) Butter
1/2 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
2 Teaspoons of Cold Stone Sweet Cream Coffee Creamer
Directions:
Spray large cookie sheet with cooking spray. Prepare the popcorn in the microwave as directed, once done, place in a large mixing bowl and let cool while preparing the caramel sauce.
Mix brown sugar, corn syrup, butter in a saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat.
Boil 5 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat. Stir in baking soda and creamer; mix well.
Pour syrup over warm popcorn, stirring to coat evenly.
Bake for 45 minutes, occasionally rotating the pan (I did this every 5 minutes or so). Remove from oven and spread on foil that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
Cool; break apart. Store in tightly covered container.
If you try this, I would love to know your thoughts and see how it came out! Make sure to tag @morbidmorsels / #morbidmorsels if you do!
Cheers!

"So this is the new year. And i don't feel any different."
It's December 31, and with that another year has come and gone. And I can't help but to think of that Death Cab song. It's funny because I remember when I was young, I thought that once midnight came, it was as if somebody pressed a "master reset button" and everyone had a clean slate. How naive, when every new day we have to opportunity to do just that.
But as time passed, especially after my grandfather died, it just became another day. Now, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but this is just my opinion. The more time went on, the more bullshit I endured, New Years lost all its glitz and glamour.
This doesn't mean I hate it and I'm anti-NYE. I just don't get excited over it. I find it to be a time for me to reflect on my blessings and what I've accomplished in life. I also don't believe in the whole resolution fad. I mean, why should we wait until January 1st to start making changes and to improve ourselves? I would think if you really want to make life changes, you'll make them any moment you want.
2014 has shown tremendous growth for me. I have grown as a person, in the sense that I have learned to give myself importance, to know that I HAVE worth, that I may have my flaws (just like everyone else) and it doesn't make me a bad person. I've learned that I shouldn't put myself last, that I shouldn't forget about taking care of myself.
This year I learned that people WILL let you down and when they do, there's nothing you can do but shrug it off and keep going. People aren't always going to like you, sometimes they'll dislike you for no reason, which tough titties, you can't do anything about it.
I also learned who my real friends were this year; even though I lost a good handful, it just made me thankful for those that are still by my side. With that, it's helped me find myself again in a way; I've become more independent, less passive, more vocal, not to mention I've regained my confidence once more little by little. I also realized that I cannot take my health for granted.
2014 was a year of change for me, it was very a-la Katy Perry's "Roar". I made changes this year and have been making changes, so no, I won't be making be making resolutions to start 2015 right. I'm going to take my time in continuing the changes I have been making.
With 2015 just hours away from us (already here for some) I wish anyone reading this a new year full of change, possibilities and positivity. I wish the best for you. And most of all a reminder to all and more importantly, myself. Things will get tough, things will suck, we'll cry, yell or think "fuck this/fuck my life", things may seem impossible, but I've made it this far, you've made it this far.
Well, that's enough of me being peppy and positive and all girly tumblr quotes. Not to mention, this is supposed to be a food blog.
That being said...
Fuck you, Happy New Year. Eat, drink, be merry!
I hope you pass out and someone draws on your face <3

I made these cupcakes for our Thanksgiving potluck at work.
They're Chai Cupcakes I made using Oprah's Chai Tea from Starbucks, they came out perfectly well as you can see how they look in the bottom left photo. I frosted them using a Cream Cheese frosting and topped them with sugar Turkeys and Cornucopias. Suffice to say they were a hit at our potluck.

For starters, thank you for taking your time to stop by and have a look-see.
Well, baking and starting my own baking business are somethings I had always had in mind. There's actually a video of me "graduating" pre-school in which everyone would go up and say what they wanted to be when they grew up. Here comes little Ashley, proudly proclaiming "When I grow up, I'm going to be a baker!"
I've always had a thing for baking, it's been my stress relief.
Well, long story short: After high school, I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena---FUCK that school (that's another story in it's own) and that's were I learned to ditch the cake mixes and Pilsbury doughs and properly learn how to bake. I mean, I enjoyed it there and had some wonderful instructors, but fuck their offices and financial aid system. Again, that's for another time.
After that, I had a small stint in working with my friend for Tada! Catering, known for doing the catering for Warped Tour and Coachella. That small time having worked with them and under its creator Shelleylyn Brandler, it really inspired me to do what I love and follow my passion.
However, it's a lot more easier said than done. Starting with the fact that I can't simply quit my day job, because how am I going to afford any ingredients? Second, I need to put myself out there get something started. And that right there, it's hard.
Friends and family are always "yeah, do it, we support you" but when it comes down to it, they'll support you if they get the infamous 'homie discount' which means the expect everything for free. Now, not all have been like this, most have been kind enough to pay me and just post the things I've made on their social media.
But Morbid Morsels is something that I've been toying for about two years now. The name came up when shooting ideas off my friend in a name. I've always loved things to be cute but spooky and have always been inspired by Disney, Halloween and Tim Burton. I wanted something with the word morbid, but cupcakes, cakery, etc. didn't flow, so my old friend Miguel suggested 'Morbid Morsels', and that was that.
Blah, blah, blah. Long story short (which I said a paragraph or two ago) I decided to start this blog to better note my journey in starting this little baking business. And to also post things I craft or random things that make me smile.
Any questions you might have, I'd love to hear from you.
Well, I've run out of words. Thank you for taking the time in stopping by, I really appreciate it and I hope to share this journey with you.
