this is kinda cheesy but I've been having like a real rough time mentally as of late and playing Dialtown really helped me through it and helped me get out of my own head a little and I wanted to say thank you

also thanks for having a trans character and not making it like his whole story lmao, oliver makes me feel incredibly seen, and I think all of the characters are really good. sorry for rambling lmao

Yeah! That was actually something important to me about his portrayal. Oliver's in his early 20's and has transitioned fully. I didn't want to so much as heavily reference his transition as a plot point as I felt it'd be irresponsible to show him at this point in his life and present his identity as an issue he can't really fix on his own, because nah, he's past that stage. He just is

He has a lot going on that is worth talking about, but much like, y'know, a real trans man, he lives a full life, chock full of AWFUL slimy things that are probably more relevant to him + gingi's journey together than who he was born as. It's the main reason why the pronoun system and, say, Karen's autism aren't advertised features in Dialtown. Forced/cynical diversity does make me cringe and really, I wanted autistic + trans + gay + completely unhinged (but ultimately harmless) characters in DT bc I have people near and dear to me who ARE in these groups, and hell, I'm in a few of these myself. It's not all that DT is, ofc, but it's smth. Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

Basically, yeah, I'm glad you feel seen! I wanted to deliver a full character who happened to be trans rather than just a trans character and I'm glad he delivered :) Oliver’s experiences do shine through in the advice he gives to Norm. I felt it was important for the audience to hear what he had to say. I know there’s a subsection of my audience who are young + trans and haven’t finished transitioning due to waiting lists or family interference, and like, yeah! Oliver’s one of many great endpoints you can work towards. Doesn’t have to be Oliver, but yeah. It’s nice to have media presenting an optimistic but realistic end point for an underrepresented group and i wanted to be the one to provide that this time given how many friends/loved ones of mine are trans :)
