Note
As your profile contains two languages, I want to ask... How interested are the kids in your classes in learning about languages? Also, I'm curious about how they react to other cultures in general. For context, I grew up in Ohio. And though I did not notice it growing up, there was a LOT of xenophobia going on.
Hi! I teach students in New York City, so a few of them are already bilingual in Spanish. Having said that, their exposure to cultures and races outside their immediate zip code is limited. My students remain curious about other languages but some continue to rely on stereotypes when learning about a new race, particularly those from Asia and the Middle East. You have asked a very important question as this is something j discuss and think about at least weekly, but I hope this provides you with more insight!
